  • i'd put a corvette v8 in it, you'd end up with a 650hp in a car weighing less then 1000kg.. thats pretty exciting if you ask me..

  • Isnt ginetta Swedish? I am little bit confused.

  • @LeoErba no . it's a british company mate

  • It would be a complete beast with either:

    1. 2.3L 280HP Cosworth Engine or

    2. 300HP tuned K20 engine from a Civic Type R.

This car would destroy GT3s, M3s, Lotus', etc. A 800kg body with 300HP plus rear wheel drive at about 30,000. Definitely my dream car. So sad that they are only manufacturing 100 a year.

  • i wish they would import this to america what a cool looking car for the price

  • They need:

    1) A cosworth engine

    2) The boys that used to be at tvr to design the interior

    3) A gkn drive train

  • driving position... something i always value high

  • Ginetta's the new lotus!! lotus is just rubbish now

  • it looks like it could fly because it's too light.

  • @dantehallJr92 Power-Weight doesn't mean shit? Anybody who sat through a single science class can figure out that the lighter an object is, the less energy is needed to propel it, therefore more energy is saved. It's an important factor of racing. And I never claimed the Ginetta would win. I'm only saying that for the price, you're probably not going to get anything better.

  • ugly and it aint lapping no track faster than any current ferrari

  • @dantehallJr92 Is Power to Weight a new concept for you? If you look below, I asked what the hp/tonne the max power output would be, which they say is 280hp with all the upgrades. The answer was 350hp/tonne, and a Ferrari 458 works out at 385hp/tonne. The Ginetta costs about $38,000, whereas the Ferrari is $255,000 (Both at entry level). You can get something that will be very quick, very well designed, for probably less than 1/6th of the price (Not sure what top spec costs)

  • @Fertro my gokart has a nice hp/tone ratio.. dat dont mean shitt... nd okay lets have a race... you take this gay ass car i will take the ferrari

  • 5 stars again mate

  • This is ugly..

  • Guys think of what would happen if this had 500hp turbo engine. Dear Lord :)

  • @Razor4ever it would burn its tires and spin at every corner.

  • @Razor4ever well for one it would be heavier, but it scares me thinking about it (in the best way of course)

  • 800kgs, and if it has (around) 280hp... Good God. What would be the ratio on that?

Saying that, how would one even work out what a car's power/tonne is?

  • @Fertro 1000kg*280hp/800kg = 350 hp... 350hp/tonne

  • with 280HP it would be insane

  • Now imagine this thing with an F22C engine out of a Honda S2000 xD that's 240bhp

  • @HondaFanUA its doable :D

  • So it's a striped out Miata with a horrible body kit. Look at those panel gaps, awful!

I bet it would be a blast to drive though!

  • @ScLeCo "...In this prototype version..."

  • @ScLeCo no, it only shares engine/box with the miata. its a new car design, with spaceframe chassis

  • really good driver.

  • Ideal car, little, light, practical and fast. Too bad it have big price...

  • I'll take one with a Rotrex installed please lol

  • I am in love with this car.

  • really like this... way more than I thought I would

  • it looks like the UK designed their own S2K , IMHO

  • I drive the race car version of this car the junior, and I love the car it is amazing to drive whatever weather, and in the junior race car only has 100bhp as it's limited so this must be amazing.

  • this is what happens when ur xk mates with your miss mx5

  • I can think of allot of kit cars like this car...

  • I really really want this, and I'm not even gay..

  • @JamieBudkiewicz

I'm gay and I want one.

    Bitch.

  • @CochiTravels Urm, exactly?

  • I want one

  • There are 5 things he likes in a car.... Uh. 3 things. Is this the Holy Club-racer of Antioch?

  • @tigerlxxv "A great driving position, a nice steering wheel and THREE perfectly located pedals.." 1 + 1 + 3 = 5 things.. not 3 things.. 5 things..

  • The entire drivetrain has been lifted out of a Mazda MX-5. Shit… the MX-5 should have the same weight and power.

  • So spartan, no electronics, like a track car. People doesn´t need all these nanny gizmo, learn to drive, and then thrash this baby around.

  • soooo how do you check the engine if it has no bonnet??

  • @yo93yeah whole hood comes up :) like i flips to the front..

  • @Corrotive Like an E-Type. ;)

  • @StewMM yeh i didnt really know the right word in english :)

  • I WANT ONE IN THE USA!!!!!!!!

  • @mz9393mz thats doubtfull as im sure if they was to try and sell it in the usa would need to be modified in some way before im betting shame you guys dont have SVAs (Single Vehicle Approval) like we do here

  • this has become my dream car, if only it had a small v8 it would be more of a fantasy car, I wouldn't mind even if it was 2.0lt V8... (even ferrari had one back at one point)...

  • did anyone else hear that constant rattle?

  • @carrieubp Racing little hondas against porsches? You mean driving like a tit at a trackday, where most people with nice cars are simply trying to have a bit of fun? Yeah, we all know you lot.

  • is this for sale in America or are we too dumb and fat for this awesome car also?

  • MX5 on an Atkins diet with a 200hp 4pot ford engine mixed in and its built and designed in the UK im sold

  • 26000th

  • @ReflexEight Yeah I thought so. Another street racer. I bet you thought FAST & FURIOUS was real? hahaha Seriously I think you look at car's only skin deep. For me, a car is how it makes a driver feel. When you get in it and drive it in a? circuit, racing other drivers in other cars, how does it make you feel? I can imagine what the Ginetta would? feel like because of my past circuit racing experience racing little Hondas against Porsches, Evo and other Hondas. Lightweight is King!

  • I have no idea why I like this car so much, I just do.

  • a TRUE car.

  • I got to order on of these, but i dont think they would sent it to the US :/

  • Send those to the USA

  • at least better than mx-5 engine i think

  • I like the mx5 just the way it is, this having more power would make me love the g40.

  • a pumped up mx5.... it should drive really well though

  • get this shit in the USA!!

  • it would even better with an S2000 FC20 engine.

  • @seanwfd tourqe-less engine? nah

  • @seanwfd

true, but it'd be a lot more expensive as well

  • The car looks like an alien! i dont like it

  • 1999cc in-line 4-cylinder, 16-valve, DOHC

    Electronic fuel injection

    Petrol developing 175bhp and 190Nm at 5000rpm

    0-60mph: 5.8s

    Top speed: 140mph

    Weight: 795kg

    Mpg average: 29mpg

    Wowww, 29MPG! YES PLEASEEEEE.

  • Looks like a mini GTR, lol.

  • lol! Steve Sutcliffe is a UK-based motoring journalist with a racing background and if you look at a range of his car reviews you'll see he's not afraid to call a spade a spade, though he might tell it to you gently. By contrast the average standard and objectivity of a large number of motoring journalists from across the Atlantic is to be frank laughable if not downright criminal!

  • It's dumb as hell, just a Corvette/Porsche spinoff.

  • @ReflexEight You obviously are another dodo that doesn't get it. This baby will easily humiliate any Corvette or Porsche driver in a tight circuit if the driver knows what he is doing. It's a driver's car for sure.

  • @AccordGTR Oh yeah, I forgot we all race on circuits. I still think it's ugly. I don't care if it's powerful or not. Porsche, lambos and the Veyron are all powerful and good cars but i think they're ugly as hell.

  • @ReflexEight Yeah I thought so. Another street racer. I bet you thought FAST & FURIOUS was real? hahaha Seriously I think you look at car's only skin deep. • Oh god it's hideous.

  • s2000 still the best.

  • i like this car

  • hmmmmm.....not agressive enough....

    looks WAY too soft

  • @flawns its a road car. the race car is a lot stiffer. But at only 800 kg you don't really need stiff suspension

  • @AccordGTR WHAT? what does this have to do with the LOOKS of the car.

I don't mean the suspension is soft, I mean the way the car LOOKS is soft

it looks like a little baby

  • @flawns Ah I see. But I think you do not get it. There are so many "aggressive-looking" sports cars today but they all weigh 1000-2000 lbs more than this car. I think this car is perfect for a sports car, under $30,000, 800kg. RWD except it is RHD. It even has a rear diffuser and central muffler. Yeah, no wings and fake scoops but look how low it is with really big tires. I can imagine this will out-corner or out-brake anything on the road that will come across it.

  • Perfect timing with the Elise and Exige production ending this month. Hope it comes to U.S.

  • seems like a copy of the 240z. Of course the engine and everything is diff but the body is a copy.

  • Cool car. Good work Ginetta.

  • brilliant car. LOVE IT. This should be indeed sold in the US.

  • watch?annotation_id=annotation_48721&feature=iv&v=oHg5SJYRHA0 g40 on the street must watch !!!!

  • Saw one of these earlier. Pretty car.

  • I love it!!

  • crazy mini subaru impreza

    watch?v=-Lmth5C0azk&feature=channel_video_title

  • love the interior

  • Tell you guys one thing

TO ME THAT IS A BMW Z4 COUPE WITH A FIBER BODYKIT....

Even it has the same gear shifter...

  • US PLEASE!!!

  • bring this to india.......

  • @theimacduderox - yez it will get stuck on one of the speed breakers ... nd we hve them evreywhere ... go buy a landrover ... betta ..

  • Looks good!

  • I worked at a car dealership selling high-end sports models a few years ago, but shudder when I recall what I had to do sometimes to make the sale.

Once a Russian Oligarch guy was on the brink of buying a £200k model when he said I had to “prove myself a man” before he’d sign. This involved me hitching up his wife’s skirt, bending her over the bonnet & sexually entering her while he filmed. To my immense shame I went along with this- though both my wife & priest have since forgiven me.

  • i want one more than anything now, in realistic terms

  • 140 mph and 29 mpg. ( for the 175bhp version ) according to their own website.

  • I'll second Mr. TurboLag. Do please bring it to America and I'll do a sb100 registration for California. Bet the mileage is quite good too. I'll end up with a "Porker" if it doesn't come soon.

  • I looked at the shifter I was like hummm, this looks like a new MX5 shifter cuz non of the current cars have reverse left to 1st. my RX8 is the same.

  • Aww, it's cute.

  • Those panel gaps look British.

  • keeping the Ducati.

  • Would look better as a convertible

  • wow ive never heard of this car i live in california i wonder why they dont have these cars out here

  • Wow this car sounds great for America! It could be the next mgb or spitfire only way more fun and reliable, just put some carpets in it, maybe even make a less hardcore, plusher version

  • ugly ass car. like a miata but way uglier

  • Nothing quite like it?? What about the lotus Elise? On paper they're near as the same!

  • the design is eminently 100% British

  • da FUCK is a quid

  • @jwise36 slang for british pound.

  • i'm so glad cars like these are still coming out

  • for this price you could buy an elise supercharged which is quicker, on the road and probably on the track, and i'd hasten to say more reliable.

    still looks ok i guess.

  • You probably mean the Ginetta can lap most circuits faster than most Ferrari owners with more money than skill

  • That thing was hooking at 2:47!

  • Would love to see a NEGATIVE review of anything..

  • @dbauernf Any current Toyota would do.

  • @dbauernf its ugly

  • @dbauernf Car company tip offs to write good reviews.

  • @dbauernf why should they spend their time and money reviewing a crappy car? Save that for the magazine/website. Get real, if they put a negative review of some crappy economy car you wouldn't watch it.

  • 4k more than a focus RS ? Think id rather the RS

  • @Lloydo46 I wouldn't. The RS would be quicker of course, but I'd much rather have have the lightweight rear drive entertainment every day.

  • bet it would be 40grand in the US...But man....this is a nice car!!

  • WOAH THAT IS A SPEED6/ SPEED3 GEAR KNOB!

  • The back looks sweet, but the front is a tad boring... too clean...

  • i'm guessing this'll never come to North America?

  • YEAH!!! 5,555 VIEWER!! :D

  • @shinkueagle *ahem* Same here.

  • @AudiABTr8 LOL!!!! :D THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!!! :D

  • Comment removed

  • Guys Canada needs this car too! Don't be racist guys!!!!

  • i would rather have a lotus. looks better.

  • Nice review but why not buy a LOTUS. I really love mine. And it very FAST.

  • Reminds me a lot of the old firespitting 205 GTI odly enough :L.

  • PLEASE bring this to the US. It will sell brilliantly here.

I would actually ditch my plans of buying an STI and just buy one of these and keep my Outback as a daily driver. I'm not kidding.

Autocar, if you're reading this and if you have you have an inside line to Ginetta, tell them to start US testing on the double. There's a lot of people like me who want fast, inexpensive, reliable weekend racers, and this car looks to fit the bill PERFECTLY.

  • @TurboLag23

Can you even bring a car in US (or North America) that has no air bag. I remember one of my ex brought a Lotus Seven (aka Caterham 7) into Canada but it had to be in kit form and had to built it himself in order for it to be street legal. But that was like in the late 1990s and wonder if the same rule applies now.

  • @myke6699 not sure... the Huayra just got spiked down because of airbags, but that's because our government is waging a war against anything that is outright supercar-ish and fun in an attempt to make all of our lives worse for no apparent reason.

We can just lie and say that the Ginetta is an MX5 with a super-special body kit... hehehe.

  • @TurboLag23 If this type of car is so attractive, why not just get a Lotus? An Exige/Elise weighs about the same with about the same amount of power for about the same price.

  • @Lolzilol123

The Elise is going out of production soon. Lotus has bigger, heavier replacement in the pipeline for 2013.

The Elise SC is probably a much better road-car, but personal taste also comes into the buying decision and the Ginetta is a more serious track car. It's more than 100kg lighter and comes with a FIA approved roll cage and fuel tank.

  • @Lolzilol123 It'll all depend on how the next-gen Elise/Exige is. They just stopped making this generation of Elise in preparation for the new Lotus models due out in the next few years (including a new Elise).

  • @TurboLag23 doubt it will come to US. Have to pass emissions, safety regulations etc. Too expensive for most niche car companies.

  • @TurboLag23 cool story bro

  • @TurboLag23 it's a Ferrari, if you buy it, it's gonna get stolen.

  • @kelloggcerealxoxo lol people with ferraris live in areas when niggers dont roam

  • @robertallen957 oh oops, it's ginetta, not ferrari. it's italian, tomaHto tomaEto samething. as long as he don't put 22' shiny rims on it, then I think it's safe. I tell ya, those rims are real nigger baits.

  • @TurboLag23 lol this looks like a sweet little race car

  • @TurboLag23 Sorry the G40R won't make it to the US as a road car - only way this makes it onto UK roads is a special law for single vehicle approval (SVA) which allows small manufacturers like Ginetta to put together a max I think of 100 road cars per annum without conforming to the usual UK and European approval and crash rating testing requirements. As far as I know no US Federal or State legislation exists which would allow this car to be imported into the US and legally used on the road.

  • @TurboLag23 No way. US has the most ridiculous vehicle safety laws and the lousiest drivers. LOL

  • @AccordGTR LOL true facts right there... some of our drivers are quite good, but the vast majority of them suck.

Can you believe that in the state of California parallel parking and highway driving are not on the driver's test?! I'm not kidding; I took the test less than 3 years ago! It's no wonder nobody here can drive; nobody was ever taught how!

  • @TurboLag23 Yup I know, I went to school and worked there for 10 years. I learned a lot about engines and drag racing and joined some parking lot slaloms. Then I returned to the my country and took racing lessons from a Pro. I found out I was doing everything wrong! In the US everything is so expensive so kids take the cheapest way out which is drag racing. But circuit racing takes a whole different set of skills, braking and cornering and suspension set-up.

  • @TurboLag23 I'd buy one and do an LS1 swap. Oh yeahh...

  • The underdog building a proper roadster. Cheers

  • i actually think it sounds pretty sick!

  • looks really good, simple design reminiscent to old school british coupes...

  • looks like it was made in a shed. But hope the company is a success

  • sick car, wish it didn't look like it was designed by hyundai.

  • Owner of Ginetta says: "THREE perfectly located pedals" yay a real manual with a clutch. No flappy paddles. <3

  • Comment removed

  • @giovanni09pso umm..i don't get your joke. a great driving position, a nice steering wheel, and perfectly located pedals (3) equals to = 5.

  • sounds like a weed whacker

  • @TrollingForYou looooooooooooool

  • A tight, little, 1700lb car with a manual gearbox? Yeah I'd say that'd handle pretty well.

  • i may buy this now (:

  • Cool!

  • that car looks like a s2000 with different lights!

  • @eyelesskiller8 your mom looks like a s2000 with defferent lights!

  • @santosbl01 your mom looks like a fat lady z
