@kls3915 Yes, I did! Last year was Hosanna to the Son of David and this year was Trumpets. Didn't make it this year. My county choir is doing Achieved is the Glorious Work by Haydn, which is the audition piece for next year. If you have time study up on it if you're a girl, because it's murder for both sopranos and altos DX!
My high school concert choir performed this piece for spring concert. I was accompanist. Our music director and I rehearsed accomp until he was pleased BEFORE being paired with the choir (choir was always a Capella during init rehearsals) . Yes, it was one of the more difficult pieces I performed , but I was told I didn't miss a note. Here, there is too much pedal. You can't hear the relentless triplets against the eighth notes, working up to frenzied triplets in both hands then octaves.
@msgdobes you are right...I was the accompanist for a choir that performed this piece. The intro...for me was scary part...but after a bit I felt comfortable...and yes those triplets did take some working...on both the excution and the counting...as well as the 32nd notes in the intro...
@namg062015 ...I am assuming she's a professional musician. She was not keeping time and hit a fair number of wrong notes. I am not saying I could do it better, far from it. What I am saying is that if I was paying her I would have a problem signing her check and would be looking for a new accompanist. It doesn't matter how hard the piece is, if you can't play it well then you need to go back to the wood shed. If your not professional enough to ensure you play it right, than you shouldnt be paid
Penn State's massed choirs and philharmonic orchestra are performing this piece as part of their Mosaic concert. It is a fantastic piece, but the pianist in this video is very rough at the beginning, which is not fast at all. It is amazing how good this piece sounds with an actual orchestra. We are not performing is much slower than this group did.
Its very difficult to sing properly when you are grinning like a possum. it changes the position of the mouth and changes the tone. the mouth needs to be relaxed. thats why they don't smile much.
Great Singing; it was sung too fast, the only time you go fast at the concluding part of the piece. Thw pianist did a great job...it is not easy playing on piano a piece written originally for an orchestra....
The conductor picked a very difficult piece and then rushed it throughout. We sang this in University and it was hard enough then to sing. I appreciate the accompanist who has to glide over the keys to his tempo--next time SLOW DOWN!
Totally agree. The tempo was too fast. We're doing this at a church I've been hired to sing at-I know the music director and I've sung with him- and we're not doing it THAT fast. LOVELY singing though. I love this piece from Beethoven!
An aside directed to terryism1960. "She is autistic." That isn't correct. She is a person who happens to be affected by autism. "She's autistic," sounds and is rude. For future reference, rephrase your remark regarding whomever "she" is, to "She has autism." "Autistic" is descriptive of autism - "autistic is NOT a person. Furthermore, I suspect she is very high on the autism spectrum and is affected with Asperger's Syndrome.
Teenagers aren't required to smile. Perhaps they aren't thrilled singing this selection. It's quite high - perhaps they're concentrating. This work is far more effective when performed with an orchestra, as intended.
RE: the accompaniest - you do it. Playing an orchestral reduction on the piano isn't a walk in the park.
We are working this right now for our spring concert. I'm so excited. We are doing at fast as this. I'm nervous about that though. You guys and gals did a beautiful job.
Wow ... This gave me shivers as I listened! I love choral music! My academy choir also did this as part of our annual Christmas concert when I was a senior in 1976. We opened with Beethoven's Halleluja and finished with Handel's. What great memories this brings back! You guys were amazing!
actually, she is autistic. This choir doesn't exclude anyone, and it raises everybody's game (self-esteem, achievement, etc.). The director is amazing.
I think your choir sounds great!! :) This brings back memories for me because my high school choir did this song in 1983 for our Spring concert. Beautiful song... thanks for sharing.
all i can say is that i got the chills...i guess the word "hallelujah" has that effecto on me...but i think i still like handel's chorus a little better...but this one will grow on me.
This song makes me want to rip my guts out. We had to do this for PMEA District Choir auditions my sophomore year. UGH.

Pianist needs to go?
He did everything correct, if you thought the tempo was off, that's the way it was written.
Terrific Pianist!
