  • Gannet, the problem with that Lowrey at school was that the neons in the back for the F notes had broken off-they get very brittle.Theres about 200 of them in the organ.AND 73 valves and the switches are mercury switches.

  • Thanks Mike, ive been playing since i was eight years old-thats umm 43 years. It just needed some gentle rhythm to keep it flowing.

  • I am very impressed with your organ playing!! How long have you been playing? This is such a beautiful song!! LOVE The Shadow Of Your Smile!! I play this song on the piano, in the same key!!

  • Superb! I've always wanted to be able to play the organ, especially in this style, going right back to my teenage years. I'm 40 now, so I suppose it's too late, and I'll have to make do with listening to superb players like yourself.

Incidentally, we had a Lowrey Heritage at school, though it was rather beaten up, and all the F keys didn't sound! It's amazing jow many tunes need Fs!

  • love this music!! Being an organist myself, I have never played a LOWREY. Oh, i have played many other brands!!! The sound of this LOWREY reminds me of a BALDWIN orgasonic I once had( and donated to my church, years ago) I had it modified to accept a 145 leslie. It had that kind of "buzzy" sound. But with the Leslie, it just totally changed the sound -for the better. You play wonderfully. Some of these old organs had a great tone!

  • This is the best playlist. Your music goes with everything I do.

  • Hi i am lucky enough to have a dso-1 being restored at the moment, cannot wait to get playing it!! like most of us spent my teenage years listen to my dads Haven/Stoneham lps, enjoyed your playing.

  • yes one is on sale at Amazon-a double album.

My friend has copied and cleaned up most of his records.

Of course we are having a Lowrey Heritage at the concert and with a bit of luck he may play it !!

  • @caspercat0 I have tried Amazon and no Haven recordings come up.

If your friend (or anyone else) can help me out with copies of Allan's LP's 'which are no longer available' I would be very grateful.

  • @jonfowke It's there ! Go to amazon.co.uk , select music, and search for Alan Haven (one l in Alan !). You'll see the "Haven For Sale/St Elmos Fire" double album for £ 8.47. All Alan's early lp's come up on eBay regularly. The two albums everyone's going on about here are "Live at Annie's Room" and "Through Til Two" - both featuring Alan on the Heritage and Tony Crombie on drums.

  • @jez145

  • 'Tea for Two' was an album he recorded live at Annie's Room. I remember listening to Allen at Ronnie Scott's back in 1967 ish. There has always been something very special about his feel and his harmonisations. Do you know of any of his albums playing the Heritage which are available?

  • @jonfowke "Through 'Til Two"?

  • @kaferere Have I got the title wrong? It is 40yrs ago! If it was recorded live at Annie's Room then it must be the one. Thanks.

  • @jonfowke Not sure if you've got the title wrong but I don't know of an album titled "Tea For Two" but I remember "Through Ttil Two". Maybe there were two different albums. I have some quite rare Haven recordings that were never released, i must get round to posting them along with Tubby Hayes interviews and stuff. Don't like to tread on people's toes though. Would love to hear Haven with Robin Jones & Tony Uter again playing Heritage or any setup. He's classic not dated, someone tell him please

  • Hi Jon,

Cant say ive heard of a Tea for two album around.Maybe ill ask Alan himself.Ive to speak with him this week.In fact if you can get to Southport on 18th of September ,you can ask him about it yourself!Im putting on a concert where he will be playing his keyboards and possibly even a Lowrey Heritage. The tickets are on ebay. This is the last time he will be in the UK as hes planning to return to Spain soon.

  • Very 'Allen Haven' - I love it. I would love to get a copy of the 'Tea for Two' album which he recorded at Annie's room.
