I find it easiest tp pull the engine with the turbo intact, and then remove the turbo. I find it easiest to pull the engine anyway for doing head gaskets. Once you unbolt the downpipe, it's actually less work to pull the engine than a normally aspirated engine, as the exhaust header does not need to come off to pull it.
once the engine is out, then you can unbolt the turbo form the header, and its mounting from the head.
What an awesome video series. Bravo! My wrenching experience has been shadet ree pretty much all my life and it was nice to confirm I'd been doing things right for the most part. I do have a question though. I'm about to do this procedure including head gaskets coming up pretty soon. My '90 loyale has a turbo. You have any advice about removal and reinstalling the turbo?
@bfsgman Ranks as one of the worst ideas ever. I had to help a guy change his tyre when he had a flat, took us a few minutes to find it! All that heat can't be good for the tire rubber, and it means less useful engine bay space, so due to design the engine access space is probably worse.

what if the spare catches on fire?

@MrKaoVue Open the hood and put it out! If the tire was in the trunk, the car would burrn down before you could unload it to get to the tire.
But tires are not generally known to spontaneously combust.
What if you ass catches fire?
