@Chencho305 dude , they didnt replace the monitor, mine has got exactly the same problem , it was all about BIOS , their first version of BIOS was a big fail, that's why they have created an update version. Just go on dell's official site and download the BIOS update, after it has been flashed u'll notice changes imediately.
I had the exact same problem (posted 2 videos in my channel). I think the compatibility between vista and vostro 1000 simply sucks, because I now run Ubuntu and that works perfect.
I have the exact same laptop, Vostro 1000. But I have windows XP, and I only got it maybe alost a year ago. Just bang the side of the display once, maybe twice. Or get a better video card. My laptop total was about $800. It was brand new so there you go.
if you see it on the external monitor too is a videocard issue, it coul be necessary to replace your motherboard. if you see it on LCD BIST is an lcd problem. vostro 1000 like inspiron 6400 and a few other models have a lossy lcd cable connection. you have to reseat it (remove hinge cover and reseat the cable in the right when the pc is powered off) if reseat dos not solve the problem you have to replace the lcd.. if you need help pm me or use dell solution network online before contact tech sup
the problem still exist? it appears when you move the back cover or appears randomly? with an external monitor (fn+f8 for switch to external monitor when you plug it) the problem is still the same? is seen only on windows or in dell screen and PSA mode (fn+power) too? try to do an lcd BIST (fn+power for psa, when you see the color bars type 'n') you see the vertical lines?
Solutions: if you see only in windows run safe mode if safe mode is ok is a driver problem, update it. ->continue
to fix this make sure you have the latest ati raedon 1150 drivers it will show it in windows update i had the same problem when i woke it up from sleep

its because they use all the left over parts from the year before to make the vostros.thats why they are so cheap but also alot of defects

They're great laptops. Every product has a defect somewhere along the line, not everyone rolls out perfect. I am typing this on a Dell Vostro :)
