@yeoldgrump We know the planet is warming from surface temperature stations and satellites measuring the temperature of the Earth's surface and lower atmosphere. We also have various tools which have measured the warming of the Earth's oceans. Satellites have measured an energy imbalance at the top of the Earth's atmosphere. Glaciers, sea ice, and ice sheets are all receding. Sea levels are rising. Spring is arriving sooner each year. There's simply no doubt - the planet is warming.

Hansen should retire as he is living in th past or Planet is cooling abruptly as the Sun enters a new Grand Minimum,the Oceans are cooling and sea levels are falling.Volcanic and tectonic activity are increasing as our magnetosphere weakens. Global cooling is now much more likely than warming so I would advise atmospheric co2 enrichment to increase crop yields.

@david222444 Good points, the earth has gone from a cooling to warming cycle over time caused by everything from El Nino, to Volcano to Solar conditions, which come and go. But climate change created by human activities in the last 100 years or so, is not variable and has been linked by most scientists as a significant contributing factor.

@ebecker2000 I do not think that most scientists now think human are significant enough to have any large effect on the Planet's climate. Science is never settled eg E=MC2 or nothing can travel faster than light. The highly active Sun has caused the past warming and the increase of the trace gas co2, was a consequence of that past warming.

@david222444 I The science is settled in terms of knowing that the planet is warming dangerously rapidly, and that humans are the dominant cause. But you are correct when you say that some theories are unresolved for instance, it's still difficult to know how fast the planet will warm, or will clouds act as a net positive feedback (by trapping more heat, causing more warming) or negative feedback (by reflecting more sunlight, causing a cooling effect) as the planet continues to warm?

@ebecker2000 We do not know that past warming was caused by humans and the idea seems a bit far fetched to me. As i said before it looks like an active Sun caused past warming as Svensmark and now CERN cloud suggest. Common sense suggests that clouds are a negative feedback , like when you stand under one. Clouds do not trap heat , they disappear when heated and condense to rain when cooled.

@david222444 The continued emission and accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere primarily from burning of fossil fuels, IS changing the climate. We do not know its full impact. But scientist do know it is now having an impact on various ecosystems and species. The wise move at the least - is to limit it's impact as much as possible and to reduce other emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.

@david222444 The CERN Study on the effects Of Cosmic Rays On Aerosols, Which Contribute To Clouds, is a new piece in the puzzle that may make global climate modeling more accurate. But Cosmic Rays have been hitting earths atmosphere in various intensities for a very long time but the sustained rise in global temperatures over the past 15 years cannot be explained by cosmic ray activity.

@ebecker2000 My sources are real time satellite data not corrupt scientific literature. If you manage to stop living in the past( when warming was caused by the active Sun ) and return to the present, you can even watch the Planet cool on a daily basis from your armchair.

@david222444 You are only partly right. Some areas (including parts of the southeastern U.S. and parts of the North Atlantic) have, cooled slightly over the last century. BUT the recent warmth has been greatest over North America and Eurasia between 40 and 70°N. and even of the eight warmest years on record have occurred since 2001 and the 10 warmest years have all occurred since 1995.

@ebecker2000 Politics do not not interest me as it is politicians who rely on concensus and not scientists, to whom concensus means nothing but a challenge. Just as CERN and the Hadron collider has chllenged the fundamentals of Einstein's Theory , it is our Scientific duty to challenge any theory that cannot hold its own under scientific scrutiny. The Greenhouse theory cannot hold its own under scientific scrutiny.

@david222444 You are correct that science is never settled or that there's always a better explanation. But the new findings on the speed of neutrinos, does not mean that light DOES NOT travel at the speed of light. Just like the human contribution to Global Climate Change does not negate weather changes brought about by Solar Cycles, El Nino, Ice Age Cycles, moisture etc. The question about human activity is not so much "IF" but rather "HOW MUCH."

Garbage in, garbage out.The Planet will cool and the markets will crash, this prediction was made by the best supercomputer on the Planet ( common sense).
