People get so grossed out by this guy not wearing gloves. Come on... haven't you ever heard of washing your hands? With soap? Not a big deal. Do you think Mother Theresa wore latex gloves?
This apartment building had a composting bin about a year or two ago but it disappeared within the first few weeks so there is no way to compost in many areas of SF.
This is a fine example of why (some/many) Americans don't give a damn about recycling. From the people who wantonly throw away trash bags full of trash into recycling bins to local governments being such assholes about what and how to recycle some things and ignore the rest and the companies being so picky that a mere dead cockroach will render the entire load "contaminated."
Americans don't know how to recycle cohesively period.
That guy may not mind the smell of rotting garbage because he works around it all day long, but most of us don't want our kitchens smelling like decomposing food. Paper bags absorb liquids, leak, stink and break.
I will continue to use plastic bags, and if some hand-sorting is needed at the end...So be it.
@KendrickSF Put the trash can outside if you have too. Put a lid on it. Composting is good for the environment, our future children and their children. As another poster said, we sound cocky like were too stupid to recycle. Please do the right thing!
Jesus it's compost not medical waste. It's not like he was digging through the stuff with no gloves on. He was just picking up a few things to show. I wouldn't waste time with gloves either.
@ClubCrew There's probably medical waste in there. Who knows what all they find. I understand the importance of composting (I have a bin)...but for a city to make it mandatory? No thank you.
