  • This is absolutely awesome.

  • "Earache" Records is right.

  • faggy faith no more wannabes

  • The vocals MAKE this song! :P

  • This band is quite abstract, but i LOVE this song!

  • Damn. Another song ruined by the vocals..Wish more metal bands would take their cue from Russian Circles or Mogwai..

  • Sorry crimsontowers but you're not a musician even if it's writing "Crimson" in your nickname...

  • the sickest jazz guitar

  • This is what i love about Rock. Its soosooo creative!

  • @Zekehiphop But this is no rock, this is what we call metal.

  • @progdrummer160 Lool i know , i know (H)

  • Is this what "mathmetal" has evolved into?

  • @blzbug242 Yeah, someone's got a bugged calculator...

  • Meravigliosi! <3

  • I've been a musician/metalhead for 22 years, but I'm a musician 1st & foremost..i'll respect any single person, band or song regardless of its earthly labels, genre, its members or their ideals..& acknowledge their talent. That shouldn't be a unique trait, it's just being a real musician..

They possess talent, sure. But this ongoing fad of disjointed chords with no cohesion let alone a single semblance of structure, just goes to show how little you need to try to impress the masses of sheeple..

  • does anyone know where I can find this kind of jazz, just jazz (no metal)?

  • @progdrummer160 sun ra lol

  • anyone now the best album of this band? i want to download one.

  • @FrankensteinPig The album this is from is called 'The Painter's Palette'

  • @FrankensteinPig Painters Palette is a great one to start with, Through My dogs Eyes is the next one to invest in, that has some great shit on it. Pain Necessary to Know is tough to listen to, I like now but it took a lot of work deciphering that one. The bottom line....you can't go wrong on the first two I mentioned.

  • 1:13 OMG, that's a 200 bpm dnb time, like St. Michael of Aphex Twin, that's sick! O__O"

  • they´re great musicians

  • hahah yea i also know that this came out yearrrrrrsssss and years and years ago before anything of this sort was in the United States..fuck yourself ho

  • Ummm... NAKED CITY?

  • Naked City is more like... Free/Avant Jazz with metal influences... Ephel Duath sounds more like Metal with Jazz influences

  • Just fucking stfu and gtfo if you can't appreciate this level of complexity in music, you brainless kid. Go back to your pussy rap or rock.

  • Crimsontowers, d'you know anything about music? O.o I guess you don't, you wouldn't say such a stupid thing if it was the case.

  • this is ANYTHING but a scene kids band, this band mixes so many talents on so many levels. now where can i find this cd tho...

  • rofl, how is this "scene"

  • This is definetly not scene. It's more like trashy prog metal with some jazz things. You may not like it, but don't label it incorrectly.

  • wow you just learned a new expression calling something a scene, the thing is though you need to know what that means before you post it...

:o) a sceene like this doesn't exist or maybie you just copied the scentence from some other song and posted it here thinking you will look smart but youre shit this song is original and awsome

  • tard

  • this video was recommended to me..... they suck monkey balls

  • Makes you anxious...

  • esta buenisima esta banda !!!!

  • Just..wow. It's great.

  • This drummer is sickass wearing a suit whlile drumming!

  • It's uncle fester

  • that is the most metal feather scarf ever known to man

  • Painter's Palette definitely their best album

Through my dog's eyes was a total disappointment

  • yea, i really liked the switching between clean vocals and screams/shouts... that's what makes TPP really stand out. but their newest albums also has some really great tunes, but it's just not the same...

  • HELLZ YEA in the same tradition as the ever awesome Naked City, I wonder if they are inspired by them

    YES!!! thumbs up

  • Such a fucking fantastic song off a fucking fantastic album by a fucking fantastic band.

  • wtf????

  • The video is kinda creepy!

  • I really love Avant :3

  • I hated this song to death. Now I think this is fucking amazing. That trumpet at the beginning is just orgasmic

  • Same

  • Comment removed

  • I dotn care what anyone else thinks, this song is the height of awesomeness.

    :D

  • @lawlerskaytes

if you don't care, why do you post your opinion?

  • this + atheist = the only jazz metal that I can stand. Its hard to make this stuff combined sound good...let alone compose it.

  • Well this certainly wasn't what I was expecting. It's pretty interesting but not really to my tastes.

  • people need to stop complaining about stuff...

its all in the grand genre of extreme metal, the most dissliked genre in music history "i hate that metal that you can't understand what they're saying (playing)"

these guys just broke away from black metal after a few CD's, it might not be "TRUE!1" but then again, if a band was totally "true" or "pure" sound would never have progressed away from the heavy metal and proto-sludge of the 70's and 80's....

so, i'm really glad metal has progressed...

  • That needed to be said. Listen to this guy, people.

  • seriously... :-/

  • You need to check out John Zorn's band Naked City. They are one of teh pioneers of jazz metal/hardcore/grindcore/spazzcore

  • LOL!!!And then they tell me Death Metal is crazy! Go figure! XD

  • dude, all kinds of music has its listeners. even Britney Spears does. i love jazz metal. check out Atheist, Blotted Science, Cynic, Meshuggah, Dillinger Escape Plan, Spastic INc etc..but on the other hand, never mind, its not your music. music should not be only about simplistic harmonies and whatnot for the sake of you or others who only hear, but not listen.

  • True true! We all have different taste and ask for different stuff from our music in order to be satisfied! My direction and taste in music should have answered your questions automatically though! There's nothing simplistic about Death Metal.Or at least the music i listen to. It's technical, brutal and really requires you to be there listening! Not just hearing! I could suggest Tech.Death bands too like Nile,Necrophagist,Decapitated e.t.c but then again it wouldn't be your kind of music either!

  • umm..key..i know all those bands you suggested. but well i was wrong about your taste in music. anyway. :P

  • hahaha

  • wtf is up with the intro? sounds like an elephant farting

  • sex.... bleach.... saxophone

    ossssom

  • wtf happend to this band?

  • lots of lineup changes.

  • this is lol

  • PURE ITALIAN PRIDE !

  • for all losers who don't know shit: the comment underneath is positive. fucking noobs

  • i really didnt think so...

  • "this is the shit" is positive, "this shit blows" is really negative. fucking arrogant noob;)

  • Couldn't agree more

  • ephel duath have my babies

    ily

  • this is EPHEL DUATH???how to different?

  • The Painter's Palette album is definitely a must have. Fusion/Jazz and experimental progressive metal both flow gently through the whole album. This song kicks ass!

  • I love the trumpet. Ephel Duath is pretty sweet. The song "Hole IV" on their myspace is pretty cool too.

  • Genious.....Pure Genious!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the screaming. The other slightly more melodic vocalist isn't in Pain Necessary to Know, was he a guest?

The only thing that bugs me is the sax thing at the beginning and end.

  • he was a regular member, but left after the painter's palette album, don't remember why. such a pity, it was so much more colourful and airy with the clean vocals

  • im sure that's a trumpet

    I love it!

  • By the way, does anybody have any clue as to where I can buy the Painter's Palette? I can't find anything related to Ephel Duath in any store

  • Some online store? I have bought the CDs at concerts, but I remember seeing them on sale on Amazon.

  • Download it off E-music.

  • :O:O:O

  • I don't think ANYONE knows how much musical knowledge and skill it takes to fuse METAL and JAZZ.

    5/5

  • Amen, people don't appreciate how complex jazz is (I should know, I've studied it on piano for 10 years) and the complexity of metal is also often overlooked, so putting them together requires a heck of a lot of musical knowledge.

  • i'm seeing them live tomorrow :D

  • love the bassist i used to be able to play this mostly the chord run down was hard. must re learn it. still dont understand why they got rid of him.. tehre still great with out him though

  • Ephel Duath kick ass so unconforming and different and the drummer is genius. If you like these guys check out unexpect especially the "in a flesh aquarium album" there at the top of the avante garde genre as well.

  • Drummer owns them all

  • Genius.

  • ...Damn. This band screams the words 'Jazz Metal'. D=

    ...FUCKING LOVE IT!!!

  • that was sweet, never heard them before. the softer parts sounded like Behold...the Arctopus, but with timing, so that was cool.

  • !!!Jazzy metal motion!!!

    !absolutely fucking beautiful!

  • meh, i didn't think it was nu metal at all.

  • Maybe not NU but it sounds a lot like post hardcore, i prefer the phormula album, event though the jazz fusion fits great but i really starting to hate that screamo vocals

  • i love his screaming =)

  • Yeah the vocals are a tad grating. They fit this song well, and in short doses are not that bad. I gotta say though Pain Necesary to know is my favourite album by far, as mentioned the Jazz fusion is just amazing.

Does anyone know what happened to the bassist?? I have tried googling him, but I have not found any other bands or info about him :( .

  • eh... I prefered the style of Phormula to this tbh.

  • Some of the finest Avant-garde Metal around..

Shame their live shows do not match up to their records since playing as a 3 piece.

The Painter's Palette is insanely good though.

  • sounds oddly latino-influenced... amazing metal fusion. these guys rule!

  • Damn, this stuff's good. As a lover of both jazz and metal, these guys really appeal to me.

  • Ephel Duath are so great. Davide Tiso is a genius :)

  • This music is aboslutely BLOODY amazing! Just listen at the use of the sax they make... Shame that Italy (I'm Italian too...) is a country of dickheads and only the crap gets sponsored, while the good bands try to struggle from day to day. Fuckers.

AVANTI COSI' EPHEL DUATH! SIETE DEI MITI!!!

    Nico

  • naja, war gestern beim konzert. nach 20 min geht einem das gedudel auf den sack

  • Ohren öffnen :)
