  • .....very annoying on new models is a very small zoom wheel catch...you almost need to grab the wheel with your nail to zoom.........

  • Still waiting for a price to go down on G12,still use my old A640.I understand that during the years the optics and lence widht had changed but cannon seemed to have strayed a bit from A640 until G12 and G12 looks like a bit improved version of it's older brother for higher price, almost all shooting modes are same,0MP sensors are same, they are both exelent at good light conditions, both have problems with low light and high ISO,his one is more modern but not a quantum leap from a much older one

  • What's wrong with my G12 then? The front control dial on the front and the spinning control wheel on the back of the camera don't do anything, I don't see any change to my image but when you did it I did see change. What do they do? Also the shortcut button does nothing when i click it.

  • this dude cracks me up with that hair and jacket

  • He is gorgeous! (^0^)

  • god, that no-more-battery icon distracted me... arg

  • wow what a nice piece of camera..jeff

  • i want this camera but i dont have enough money for a t3i. i had a t1i but i dont use it anymore, i still want to use my fisheye for it.. is there anyway i can add on a filter on it? thanks!

  • @KalieCheb Yes, Canon makes a filter adapter for the G12. (Amazon and B&H Photo: $40.) There are also aftermarket adapters available for filters as well as telphoto and wide angle lenses.

  • @KalieCheb There is a fisheye feature on the G12.

  • sweet jacket

  • I want better video. What should I get instead of this?

  • @catjoyyoung A video camera

  • @AreaQNH870 duh and thanx - i was hoping for something a bit more specific

  • Your hair is hella bitchin. Oh, I'm also going to buy that camera next week. Thanks for the awesome review! :)

  • Nobody in their right mind would buy this in addition to a 7D.

  • I thumbed up the "Marry Me" comment,

    but I'm a guy!

    Fffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • i love how the battery icon keeps flashing. hehe. hey did you get married with doidinha50? lol. thanks for the review i'm gonna get it. :)

  • im getting that on my birthday!

  • MAIIKEE?? was tthis before technobuffalo? i think so, so cool i was just watching ur powershot superzoom review on TB and you mentioned the g12's manual control so i looked for a review and found this..

  • I wouldn't recommend this for sports photos or action - it seems to be kinda slow. Good for landscapes though.

  • You're the professional. Which is better: Canon G12 or Fuji X10?

  • Sold!

  • g12 = inner

    lx5 = style

whether which is better for a camera quality and a lifestyle?

  • So.... this one is better then my Powershot SX20is?? They have both similar options.

  • G12 is the best of P&S. I have just recommended my friend to buy G12 on amazon there is great deal for $447.00

    amazon.com/gp/product/B0041RSPRS/?tag=gadadige-20

  • I fear for the future. I think there won't be long around, such high end compacts. The mirrorless changebale lens camera's are taking over now. Canon not yet have a model. And it might take the place over off a future G model Hope not.

  • @8watcher8 for me its was. You have better ISO performance, I found me g10 realy crappy in darker situations, You also have an extra dial in the front for more customized settings (great for more control on whitebalance for example). The G12 has a plastic body, the g10 feels better with a metal one.

And off course, the swivel screen is a great feature not available on the G10.

I think there will soon be time for a successor for the g12, maby you can wait a while.

  • can you have in bad wether

  • Mike, you're a great solid little brick of excellence. I got the camera, I still want the guy! You could sell me anything;)

  • Look at me, I wear a jacket, and I ride a motorcycle!

Sigh. I guess it's better than using a fucking webcam in an ugly ass house, but come on.

  • Best compact by far, it rules that copy cat Nikon p7000. For future models, g13 or g14, I wish to see 24mm with f2. Better filming with 1080p and higher rate, better ISO performance (less noise) and a turn back to a metal alloy body instead of plastic. And please stay with the flip-out lcd, it's genious. I love the G range, got a g7, a g10, and I'm fond of my g12.

  • Nice Bike...

  • Why should I buy this Canon G12 than the Sony NEX-3 or 5?

  • i hear that this camera has pretty much the same functions as the canon s95 but the s95 is more compact. thoughts?

  • Nice camera, but "you can't zoom in video mode"? Whoa! Deal breaker for sure.

  • you said "ahoy/j" on the beginning of the video ? btw it means hi in czech language :D

  • By John M Grohol PsyD

A new study came out today that suggests that people who use the Internet a lot share something in common — depression . What the study does not find is whether depression causes people to turn to the Internet for their social interactions, or whether excessive use of the Internet “makes” people more depressed:

  • I'm really stuck between choosing between the G12 and Panasonic Lumix GF2. Which would you say is better in low-light performance?

  • @julieetran The GF2 by miles. IMHO, the micro 4/3 cameras have made high end compacts like the G12 obsolete. There is no reason to buy a G12 over the GF2 or any other micro 4/3 camera. The MFT will give you superior image quality, ability to change lenses, much better high ISO performance, the ability to utilize shallow depth of field, etc and so on. Better in EVERY way.

  • a student that don't want to enter the lens realm yet?! Hey, that's me!

  • omg! i want you! :P

  • Good review!

  • mine fits in my poket

  • G12 has a underwater case. Great for snorkling and the beach.

  • would this be good for a person that's newbish but has an awesome brother to teach me how to use it?

  • @thebeardedgemsterss yeah, my very first camera was a G5 and I'm very glad about it

  • @dfnq8 yes it has depth of field and the black thing u r talking about has no name

  • hey do u kno if canon g12 does depth of field? ( you know like for example you are really clear and the backround and everything else is blury?) and can u do effects with the video mode ? and is there like alot of effects on the camera like black and white, sepia, etc? oh and lol one more thing :p .... what is it called when everything is completely black and for example if you were in the picture , u are the only thing tht isnt black?? thank u soo much please reply! ~dfnq8

  • This guy is so hot!

  • Looks awesome. Guess its expensive

  • Congrats on your awesome reviews, sir! Love your channel!

  • @goofyreligion3 Amen Sister! (or brother) ^_^

  • Is the manual focus good at all?

  • I'm completely useless when it comes to camera functions, so I was wondering if someone could explain to me how fast this camera is? I'm thinking about the time I have to wait from when I snap a picture until I can snap another picture (manually). And is it able to capture fast moving objects without getting blurry? (I've only used a compact camera my whole life, and all the pictures are usually quite blurry)

  • @wuzumaki Sorry to say this but almost every compact camera out there would have some way of regulating the shutter speed (even if it's just a scene mode) so your pics don't come out blurry. So if you don't know that much, you will get blurry pics with ANY camera out there if you don't know how to set it correctly to suit your needs. Canon's AUTO mode is quite good though, but you have to trust the camera blindly. You need something WAY less DSLR-ish, like the CANON ELPH 500 HS. Hope it helped!

  • @wuzumaki It depends on the lighting conditions and the speed of whatever is moving. At dusk unfortunately you'll have blurring with any camera without using external lights. I get around 2 shots per second in the daytime with non-moving shots.

  • bad lens, the rest is excellent

  • Hey Camera Guy, your gourd is very bumpy. You oughta have it looked after. haha.

Also, you are missing a vid of a Lego ferris wheel , photo of random women, and a choo-choo train , as taken with this dandy cameracorder device. This camera is a G12, but it's "fly... like a G6". WhutEVER that means.

I'm heavily thinking about getting this model tomorrow. Q: Would it be easy for a beginner get up to speed on using it? I'm having to take pics indoor and outside of houses for "The Man".

  • @pirtskhal I also want to know, what cam did you use to make this review?

  • Thanks that review helped and even taught me a few things about my new G12! I know very little about photography and I can't believe the quality of shots I'm getting.

  • Marry me! :) The gadget guy, not the camera.

  • @doidinha50 Are you sure we're ready for that level of commitment?

  • @infosyncvideos i don't know about you but I AM! lol

  • @doidinha50

You dirty little, skanky, good-for-nothing slut!! I thought I was your man.

  • The eye sees 11 stops but cameras only record 5 stops.

The G12 has awesome capabilities to pull in the dynamic range, preventing highlight burnout and opening up shadows in the same shot. Shoot a TV in a darkened room and both the TV picture and the room come in in perfect exposure. This review all but misses this incredible feature that delivers outstanding shots nobody else is getting.

The smile or wink to trigger the self timer is a bit much, however.

The G12 backs up my Nikon D300.

  • i think it's reasonable pocket-able... Wouldn't take it to a party with fitted or slim jeans but just for walking around or traveling... definitely.

  • ok which one should I get? G12 or S95? am also looking to use this new camera to shoot all the movies of my 3 year old ????? which one give the best quality like a SLR and can also use to shot videos? best zoom in zoom out?

  • This guy gives good reviews, but is really biased towards the G12. In other reviews he mentions other cameras, but in this video he barely mentions others. It may be due to the fact that he hadn't reviewed the Nikon P7000 yet. It looks like a great camera, but there are other good cameras out there to choose from, just depends what featured you want.

  • Your are incorrect re: zooming in video mode. I have a G12 and have zoomed in video mode w/ no issues.

  • which will you choose? g12 or panasonic fz100?

  • can anyone recomend a camera which is under 180 dollars that is good for photography and filming ( of course with which one can only make ok photos) ?

  • Dilemma! I need guidance! Canon G12 vs Pentax K-r? I'm a student, K-r would be my first DSLR. The greater capabilities of the Pentax really attract me, however I would not be able to afford anything but the standard DA L 18-55mm lens that comes with it. Responsiveness and fast shooting are also great positives.

However, the miniature video mode in the G12 would be useful to me, and I would also be able to buy an underwater housing for it with the extra cash. Plus I hear resale value is great.

  • Over all of the other compact cameras would you pick The Canon powershot G12 or the Nikon Coolpix P7000, or would you pick a different type of compact camera over these two cameras? I want to know what u would pick*:)

I've picked these two cameras but I want to know if these are the best one's to pick out of the others . And I don't want a big camera to carry around so yeah.

    Thank you so much*:)

  • why the hell are u using a shotgun rode videomic like that?

  • @wonderwall135 Why the hell not?

  • Excellent review.

  • the G13 should be a compact DSLR

  • 450USD nikon p7000 vs 540USD canon g12?

  • "Shoots through the woods like a laser beam ." lol.

  • Deciding on a camera by next month, really looking at the Canon SX30IS but kinda considering this now... whacha think?

  • Is there anyway to increase the range on the manual focus? I'm not sure if thats the right term, but i need to figure out how to make s subject close to the lens really blurry.

  • Are there no bad or inadequate features???

  • How many Pictures do you can make with one Battery?

  • It's sick. I can't focus on watching on that camera, cause the guy is more interesting. This cam should be introduced by some other guy, definitely he shouldn't be so handsome !

  • I'm still waiting for Canon to start putting decent lenses into their compacts.

  • @jednoucelovy Join the club!

  • What do you mean by remote port?

  • Does the G12 have auto focus in video mode? The fact that there's no optical zoom is already making me not want it, but if there isn't any auto focus, it is a total deal-breaker for me. I'll probably go for the Nikon P7000

  • thanks a million for the review (:

  • Which camera do you record this videos from?

  • Haha loving that you stand beside a Kawasaki when talking about the camera, so awesome! :)

  • For a smaller camera with same IQ, go for canon s95. I know I will.

  • Just bought mine and it can zoom in and out during video recording...

  • @SimplyCarLo Yeah, digitally. I said it can't zoom optically.

  • @infosyncvideos No, you did not say optically. What you said was "it can't zoom in video mode". Anyway, overall good overview of the product.

  • Comment removed

  • Can you tell me a Canon camera that is similar to the G12 or the S95 and has HD video but can zoom optically too?

  • @xxxAngelikaxxx no such canon camera right now, i'm sure you can go to lumix lx 5.

  • was this in Bar Harbor? :P

  • @Eragon3252 Close-- Seawall in Mansett.

  • was this is Bar Harbor? :P

  • Why can't my G12 record HD for not more than 2 minutes? Is it supposed to be that way?

  • 2:18 - 2:22 what does it means? what is the finality?

  • hi, i am shoping for a hd video camera that i can use to record live performances from my band in bar settings that may not have the best lighting and i also wanted decent audio quality... what do you suggest... i would like to keep it under $200 budget... also would you recoment a camera with a mic connection what mic would you reccoment.. thanks

  • had mine new for a month and have to send it back to Canon so they can see why it freezes when I review my pics...

  • have a bit my doubts about the display. swivel screen is great tho. and I want the F2.0 back! I'd bet they'll skip G13, like they skipped g4 (death) and g8 (penis). tomorrow I'll buy one, can't wait!

  • Go to bythom.com to read about the Samsung NX00 and other cameras.

  • It doesn't have an APS-C sensor. It's smaller.

  • @Lainer1 "The Samsung NX100 is equipped with a super large APS-C size CMOS sensor that reproduces rich and natural colors for exquisitely clear images even in low light settings."

  • @andrewcp I was referencing the Canon G12. It's sensor is smaller than APS-C.

  • @Lainer1 You had also left another comment referencing the NX100. My mistake.

  • Is there really a fisheye effect on the G12?

  • yeah canon g series is back :)

  • I just lost my G10 after an evening of binge drinking :s Can't wait 't ill I have the G12. The G-series are awesome.

  • I was actually wondering as a beginner, i was thinking of the Cannon SX30 IS.

However when it comes to usability i feel this Camera would be better.

I intend to pursue photography at an entry level for now with as well as directing.

Overall which camera would you recommend for Entry level with good low light usage as well as Good video quality while taking usability into account

    Cannon - G12

    Cannon - SX30 IS

I hope you guys do reply my query. Thanks!

I watched both reviews and cant decide!

  • awesome camera

  • do you live in maine?

  • Hi - can you switch off / close the LCD when shooting video to save battery (eg. if on a tripod and the scene is framed and will not change)?? thanks

  • @realmike15 All I'm asking the manufacturers is: take the DSLR, keep all the goodies inside, only remove the mirror box and the pentaprism. Not only the body but the lenses will be smaller: compare the 50mm f/1.0 lens for a (film) Canon SLR and the 50mm f/1.0 Noctilux for a (film) rangefinder. The Canon looks like a TANK in comparison - yet they are the same lens (more or less). All that extra bulk because the TANK must have its focus plane far enough in the back to allow the mirror to fit in.

  • I'm waiting for Canon (or anyone really) to put an SLR-size sensor in a non-SLR body with interchangeable lenses. Then we'll finally arrive, kicking and screaming, to where the film era was in 1930s. Then I'll finally be able to use Biogon or Hologon which AFAICT still (year 2010) cannot be done in digital. Hint: Biogon and Hologon were designed in 1950s. What on planet earth is the photo industry thinking these days?? Any photographer works there? Hello?!

  • @JanPB Samsung has done this with their NX cameras. Check out the NX100 story on our site.

  • @infosyncvideos Thanks! But it's still micro 4/3, so we still have the obligatory manufacturer mentality "if it's not SLR, dumb it down". SLR body was originally invented to allow TTL viewing but had nothing but problems otherwise: mirror slap, shutter delay, inability to use true wide angle lenses (one must use reverse telephotos instead which are inferior optically), lenses must be heavier and larger, AND the body is heavier and larger. SLR as body design in the digital era is a dinosaur.

  • @JanPB It's an APS-C size sensor, not Micro Four Thirds. That's what sets it apart from all the other mirrorless models by Panasonic and Olympus.

Still, Panasonic G-series and Olympus PEN image quality is superb, and give many entry-level DSLRs some hefty competition.

  • what moto jacket is Mike Perlman wearing in this video?

  • @maherlaw Just an old beater! The track suit's in the garage, awaiting next season.

  • which do you guys think is better. cannon g12 or the linux lx5? im really in a pit on which to get.

  • @marblink That's a very tough call. For video, the LX5 is the best. The G12 will give you better external controls and improved high ISO shooting. The LX5 also has a better aperture range, but the G12 has a bigger zoom. What's most important to you?

  • @marblink Ubuntu :D

  • i have a nikon dslr. is the p7000 menu ui the same as nikon slr ui? and does p7000 have different aspect ratio? i am thinking between the s95 g12 or the nikon p7000.

  • @caitlsss The interface is very similar to a Nikon DSLR, but a bit more laggy. Also, the P7000 does not have different aspect ratios. The Canon is definitely more welcoming to shoot with.

  • @infosyncvideos actually the P7000 can shoot in different ratios. You can choose 3:2, 16:9 etc.

  • Comment removed

  • Just picked up the g12... I am impressed with the low light image quality... other than that, it feels like my g7. Would you say the Lx5 is better ? I still have time to exchange. Good review! thanks.

  • @rg0r We haven't reviewed the LX5 yet, but we know its image quality is going to be on par with the G12. On the downside, the LX5 has nowhere near the external controls that the G12 or P7000 does. Panasonic really skimped on a camera that they had a chance to make the ultimate fixed lens.

  • Hi

Would it be a great idea to get the Canon Speedlite 270EX and the G12 for low light photos and sometimes some videos. I look also for a fast camera with a good quick shot modus. Shout i buy it or do you have a idea for a other camera?

Thank a lot and great review and i am from swiss and don't understand all ;) haha

    Greez

  • cant zoom in video? is this for real?

  • @pogi09282805724 You can't optically zoom. Sad, I know. You can with the Nikon Coolpix P7000, featured in our next review.

  • @infosyncvideos hope its soon!! hahaha

  • @pogi09282805724

No it's not. I got mine yesterday and you can zoom in video mode without problem.

  • @HaasGrotesk You can only zoom digitally, not optically. I said you can't optically zoom in video mode. And digital zoom is worthless.

  • @infosyncvideos oh sorry didnt picked up the word optical!! hahaha!! ty for the review

  • @infosyncvideos you might have a setting wrong or something is wrong with your G12 because I can definitely use the 5x optical zoom in video mode on the G12 I bought yesterday.

  • @infosyncvideos No I only hear " you cant zoom in video mode" So he wasn't wrong -.O . Where would you said Optically ?

  • @addiction6to6bad6 I mean " have said" .

  • i'm stuck on getting this or the sx30 is. i want something more advance than a point and shoot. any recommendations for a beginner slr? and which would be better, the g12 or the sx30?

  • @lovesthelipgloss Beginner SLR? Check out Pentax--they rock. Also, the Nikon D3000 or D3100.

Between the G12 and the SX30 IS? G12 all the way, baby!

  • Electric dream of awesome!

  • hi, does it have time lapse video feature as in canon G9? Thanks!

  • Which canon r u? Is the g12 better than the s95 and sd4500? Explain...

  • @sirtechy The G12 is a manual control powerhouse. It's designed for the advanced photographer who wants a fixed lens to compliment their DSLR.

The S95 is a bright aperture low light machine, taming the woes of those who complain about compacts with poor low light performance.

Both cameras have great image quality, but the G12 is much more fun to shoot with.

The SD4500 is more for the average point-and-shooter, while the former two are for more advanced shooters.

  • @infosyncvideos So out of the 3 new Canons, if were going on a trip which won would you take along with you?

  • @sirtechy I'd most likely take the G12. The S95 and SX30 IS are on their way to me, so hold on for a bit...

Also, Nikon's P7000 is coming too.

  • Why cant canon just combine the g12 and s95 together in a slim for factor?
