Is that a bucket full of dog food? If so, I would think it's not a good idea to let the anteater on top of it because the dog is watching and getting mad as hell.
I am really, really impressed by the way you treat your animals. They are lovely and cute, yes, but what I can see is that you have a made a significant contribution to this by the way you keep them, talk to them and obviously love them. If only all keepers of "exotic" animals were acting like this - with this special mixture of responsibilty and love. Great work, all the best for you and your pet family :-)
@seanziess They don't have teeth but they can do damage with their claws. They are very strong for their size. And no they aren't all this nice. They aren't aggressive but will fight if they feel threatened.
@seanziess They don't have teeth but they can claw and pinch at you. One raised with people will be nice but most tend to squirm when held if they aren't in the mood.
i would really love an anteater, ive heard some people calling them "unpredictable" i guess even if this is true, i wouldnt mind it. but i have a question for you. how would you judge the overall behavior of your pet? intelligence-wise, tendency of demeanor, how they interact with the rest of your pets, etc?
@neverwillyouever If you google "anteater FAQ" and "Anteater Care Sheet" you should find mine. That should help you. I've had several through here and they all have their own personalities. They are playful but don't normally care for other pets.
And I thought the more exotic animals are supposed to be more aggressive. XD But still, it look like the anteater is in a healthy, loving home. *thumbs up*
lol Just saw the end. Your dog hates you for bringing those things into the house. I don't blame him really. He probably feels betrayed, especially with you letting them eat his food like that. You really don't seem to know a thing about animals. Shame they let just about anyone keep them these days.
Eh, we've had dogs since I was 4 years old. That dog is not playing, it's growling intensely. That is not a playful sign. As I said, you don't have a clue about animals. Feeding an anteater processed cheese and dog food is clear evidence of this. Please find a good home for them before you end up killing them.
@Devilock79 It's a play growl. Its not uncommon for mini pins. All play behaviors are based on serious behaviors. She used to be feral and had to learn to play gently but the growl is just play. I can take things if need be. If you ignore her she shoves the toy under your hand till you play so she can growl I can kiss her on the muzzle while she's doing this. She's 11 and we've had her since 8-12 months and I've not had my face ripped off yet ;)
Well, you seem to be oblivious to the fact that you are abusing these animals. I've been watching your other videos and what you feed them is absolutely disgusting. These animals are not humans. They are carnivorous and cannot digest processed cheese and tomato ketchup easily. You will kill these animals if you keep feeding them this crap. Either learn what they are supposed to eat or get rid of them. You shouldn't have these animals and should really have them taken off you.
@Devilock79 If you really had watched more than a couple videos you would see what they really eat, which I worked hard on to match their wild nutrient needs and I even had a blood test to show it works right and is balanced. Many animals have since benefited from using it. You are obviously just trolling.
Most pet treats are much worse than the treats I give. Show me your posts to dog owners chastising them for feeding biscuits and beggin strips.
@Devilock79 If you really had watched more than a couple videos you would see what they really eat, which I worked hard on to match their wild nutrient needs and I even had a blood test to show it works right and is balanced. Maybe you should watch some of her 336 videos, particularly the ones where she's feeding these anteaters ketchup and cheese in a can. God knows what else she feeds them. One day she'll give them the wrong thing and they'll just drop dead. She feeds them this mix of raw meat, grains, and molasses that was phased out by professional keepers in the mid 80s. She has no clue how to care for these animals.
@Devilock79 Randomly throwing ingredients together was mostly put aside for kibble because they didn't die as quickly but the kibble diets are not balanced enough and it can cause spinal problems that cause them to die younger than they could live on a balanced diet. I did a lot of work to make a diet mix that closely matches up to the nutrients that they get in the wild. Many struggling animals have done great once switched to the beef diet mix.
@TamanduaGirl Even my chickens do great on a beef diet mix. No chicken food - natural grains, oyster shell and vegetables with some beef in small amounts. They overun natural occurances of protein(worms and bugs) so it is supplemented with beef. And no kibble for my cats either. All natural meat. They eat better than I do, Lol
@Devilock79 If they are carnivores, why do they have such a great time munching on some fruit? I think it is you that know nothing about animals. I have also owned dogs my entire life, and dogs can absolutely growl and snarl when they are just playing. And, TamanduaGirl is right, you are just singling her out because she has an unusual pet. Why don't you find a video of someone feeding ice cream to a dog and get on their case?
@gorgonbunny There has been recent documentation of tamanduas eating fruit. They mostly eat ants and termites but are smart enough to take advantage of easy food like fruits. Tomatoes are native to South America and ketchup has tomatoes. It also has vinegar and they need acid in their diet. Ketchup is actually a healthy treat for them, long as not in excess.
@Gage0831 Yes but not as reliably as a dog. I can take Pua to a pee pad and tell her to go pee pee and she will though sometimes it takes her awhile. She tends to pee just once a day. though wets her bedding when sleeping in the washer. Their instincts and hormones still win out sometimes and they will try to go where they shouldn't.
@DoomsdayKillz Yes she's making that noise. They do puff up some when doing it but their chests are shaped similar to humans which is kind of flat and wide to start with, unlike most species which have a barrel chest.
@sarahdoodles She's very affectionate and playful. It takes time and handling to for them to grow to trust you fully. She loves to play but I haven't heard of ones kept in an enclosure instead of a home setting to be playful and affectionate like she is.
for all of those who want a tamandua as a pet, they should not be kept as pets, Tamanduagirl, i'm not condeming you or your pet, you seem to take very good care of her. keeping any anteater as a pet is very dangerous & very unethical. @Savaril i will say the same for dogs, under the wrong person a dog can be a dangerous animal. always do research before you get any kind of pet, hell even a mouse can bite and will do damage.
She's fascinating. What are the anteaters like, psycholigically? Are they more self sufficient like cats, or more child-like like dogs? Does she like to be petted/held/talked to, sit on your lap and things like that?
Google my "anteater FAQ" that talks about it some. I've only had the two so far and their personalities were very different. Pua likes to snuggle but only when she feels like it and she is a momma's girl and ignores others. Stewie was less snuggly but more out going. Very playful but the girls can be moody(monthly cycles). Both genders can be stubborn.
Filthy and cluttered are two separate issues. The container Pua threw down as it had been on the lid of that bucket. The whisk broom was obviously there because I was cleaning something. Ice cream bucket has rabbit food in it. Aside from a piece of packaging that's about it for clutter. Messy blankets on the bed isn't really clutter but was due to being laundry day.
You can look at the state codes but most states the governing bodies are the state agriculture dept and the fish and wildlife office(name sometimes varies but each state has one).
Nope no ants unless we bring them in. Though one time some came in to get something someone spilled and Pua liked that. I don't find many in the yard either.
