One of the great vocalistists and writers the 80s evver got to see and I mysellf am a hard core Moterhead and Hagar fan but it it is what what you hear .
@evelynmh Your comment has me thinking about a different JJ song, and I hope that you'll laugh with me, as I disclose it: Tonight and Forever.
There is a quote from the Sydney Times on the back of the Laughter and Lust video that is most apropos. Since my copy is not accessible to me as I type this, I will have to paraphrase: JJ has more musical ideas on a lazy Sunday afternoon than most of us do in our whole lives.
Just got back from the JJ,s concert I WAN,T MORE !!!! unbelieveble greatness from 3 guys on stage, and him alone on stage at the piano looks/sound so fragile even he,s such a tall guy.Real emotion. made me cry at the first song, (it,s different for girls) just on piano. Din,t play this one . Can,t have it all WHY NOT ??? ;-))
@Choefoe Oh Choefoe. I wish Joe would play in the United States this year!!!!! I am so glad his show was great ....thanks for giving us an idea of what it was like!!
@evelynmh Welcome, I wish I could tape the whole show ansd see it again;-) would not be the same though;-( then you still have it on dvd haha;-) wish it lasted longer and it was only 1 night o well, we are lucky enough he,s in Holland almost every 2 years.Sometimes more, but I miss it most of the time, stupid me, but this one I have in the pocket,
.Hope for you and other US fans he will come tour there again soon, X from me ;-)
Great breakup song. Why is there no video to be found for the glorious "Rush Across the Road"? If Mozart were alive writing pop songs today, that song is what it would sound like.
@GrizrazRexI I love 'Rush Across The Road" ..it is just so bright and intense....All of his music makes you think of similar scenarios in your own life
@slickvguy I was in high school when "Look Sharp" came out. I was blown away by the fresh amazing sound. I like a lot of different music but Joe Jackson & Graham Parker are in a superior category for me.
@999Atwood Bingo. A musician's musician, ore importantly, a composer's composer. Because let's face it, many can play....but precious few can COMPOSE at the same level as JJ. He has literally written HUNDREDS of masterpieces. His skill is at such a high level. Mention his name to most people..."Oh yeah...Is she really going out...". I want to smack them.
Respond to this video... For example, the bridge in this song is remarkable. It is far beyond the ability of 99.9% of the composers out there, who would have written the usual boring, cliche, unimaginative bridge - even given the exact same song as a gift. He is a genius, across the board. Check out the Heaven and Hell sessions at 54 west videos. Astonishing. (i saw him perform that entire album. I was in awe).
JJ writes and performs timeless music...such a creative individual...but the electronic drums/cymbals are such an annoying addition. JJ's music is essentially an acoustic vibe...the electronic drums are such a distraction. Acoustic drums would work so much better...It's not the drummer, he's wonderful, it's the drums! Ahhhhhhh, I'm just an old fart jazz drummer!
are the words, "then it wouldn't be so hard to make the words all right or all rhyme?" Rhyme makes more sense , but a few different web sites have different words.
singing with his soul open, what a man!

He's not underrated by anyone who knows shit about music. He might be underrated by dipsticks who watch American Idol for musical guidence.

@999Atwood Exactly. Anyone who PLAYS or understands music (composition) knows what a genius this guy is.

Joe Jackson, highly underrated. What a beautiful song. Reminds me of when I was young and wanted to give a song to a girl. I'd pick this.

Call it love that never died
Call it anything but wasted time."
