  • art in motion <3

  • Did he win?

  • Boring and totally OVERSCORED!

  • @pwinks84 YEAH! As the american skaters on nationalchsips....

  • I find him boring.

  • I didn't understand a thing they say, but this guy is awesome! I saw him in Vancouver and I just fell in love with him. He's actually a king!

  • A couple little blips but basically as good as ever. He must have worked so hard to get back into this shape. Welcome back!\

  • at last, compliments to all these great fortune-tellers who found PLUSHENKO'S VICTORY improbable even impossible...and an advice: have many coffes before watching chan, otherwise you'll be awaken only by his falls!

  • the only artistry I've seen in EC has been the "falling" ability! EXCEPT PLUSHENKO! end art never meant only "grace" or "lyrism"... epic, drama, narration ecc., on the contrary, are more powerful and difficult forms of art and usually includes "romantic pics"! omero, shakespeare, dante, eliot and the like are less artistic than petrarca or keats or tennyson?

  • It was a performance of the man who was at his best 11 years ago exactly. When he crash landed in 2001 Russian Nationals and was heavily traumatized first time he never was like that again.

Still it IS enough for EU-12. It's SURE WOULD BE a podium (some medal) in WC-12 but he must cure himself.

He's going to have some surgery soon and we wish him to be again like a young Plushenko of the all the best 2001 version.

  • I liked it, but he's too serious! I liked the plushenko in the 90's when he was giving funny and impressive performances at the same time :)

  • very boring, skating in the 90s.

  • I'm sorry, I found this to be a very dull and boring performance, he looked like a robot, skating is suppose to about grace and being able to be an athlete at the same time, he just looks like he is going through the motions and not caring.

  • @alkijjrg02 Ja, ja, ja! You see that almost nobody thinks like you, neither the judges nor the audience. It is just normal in some places that people would clap crazily somehting funny dancing like MIckey Mouse and would not appreciate deep forms of art.

  • Vivat? King!

  • Not bad, but not great. He's got 2 years to clean it up :) He'll only get stronger, the more he trains & competes. I have a feeling he'll be the one to beat in Sochi.

Amazing. Plushenko= the best.

  • And so THE KING is back! Yupi!!!! <3 HIM :)

  • Good skate from Plushenko for a man his age. Great jumps. But transition wise, Dai and Patrick still rule currently. Good luck for 2012 Worlds, Looking forward to watching Plushenko, Xavier, Dai and Patrick fight it out! All the best to them all.. I enjoy watching them skate. I am no hardcore fan for anyone skater. Good skating and great program are my favourites. :=))

  • Welcome back, KING!

  • I've never been a fan of Plush's performance and his choreography, and quite a few skaters have more intricate transitions and steps now. BUT, he is really admirable for still competing and doing what he does. He'll do well, whether he claims gold or not in future competitions.

  • This guy is a MONSTER! How has he been able to maintain this level of technical fluency--while improving the rest of his skating!?

As for his presentation, I think the general quality is incredible. I agree with those who question the "over-reaction" toward Chan's artistry... I can see how we'd go crazy over Takahashi's superb presentation, but (as Johnny Weir stated on NBC during last year's worlds) I don't really understand why some people seem to idealize Chan's presentation.

  • @nondescriptnyc MONSTER! :) That's it! No better word defines Plushy :D

  • I love Plushenko. He's a skating legend & if you search YT you'll see I post many comments supporting him. He should have beaten Lysacek in 2010 Olympics. BUT, sadly Plushy is past his best now. This was an o.k performance but I think he'll struggle to beat some of the younger skaters. This season we've seen better performances from Chan, Fernandez, Takahashi & others. Plushy is struggling to do his trademark 4T/3T combo & other skaters are doing quads easily. I would hate to see him humiliated

  • @npe1 Evgeni didn´t have enough time to train, like other skaters did. He started to jump quads a few days before this competition, he was planning to compete only with triple jumps. He´s totally out of shape! The surgery he had last summer and then the rehab affected his skating. In autumn he reinjured himself and he had to stop training for a couple of weeks. Now he´s preparing for Euros and if he stays healthy his performances will improve, I have no doubt.

  • Comment removed

  • @SimonaCB I hope you're right but Plushy now needs more than one quad in his programme. After the stupid judges gave Lysacek the Olympic gold, the ISU has upgraded quads now. Notice that more men are back to doing quads again. Chan, Fernandez and Brezina all now do more than one quad in their long programmes - Plushy needs to be doing the kind of programmes he used to do in his battles with Yagudin. I hope he can do it - but I doubt it.

  • @npe1 I know it will be very difficult, but I'm sure he'll skate better than he did at Russian Nationals. Is it enough to beat some strong guys with two quads? I don't know, but he will do everything to improve his skating. No matter the results, I'll be very proud.

Cheer for Plushy at Euros!!!! ;))))))

  • @npe1 Evgeni will better in Sheffield! Read his interviews after RusNat CHamp! What he did, this was a heroic and incredible come back. Wait! Plush knows what must to do. :)))

  • @iloveplushenko I hope you're right.

  • @npe1

I have no doubt that he knows what to do, what must be improved. But he said that he is not afraid of defeat in this year. He needs to learn many new things. Look at the spins aren't masterpieces, but it has changed a lot. There is no doubt that he will be better in ECH. You're British, don't you want to go to Sheffield to support him? :))))

  • @iloveplushenko Already booked my ticket for Sheffield and yes I'll be supporting Plushy.

  • @npe1 Other skaters are not doing quads consistently. What is missed with the focus on transitions is that none of the younger skaters manages to jump well on a consistent basis. This includes Chan who is hit and miss. In terms of physics and mental concentration, it seems that brilliant jumping is more easily achieved when jumps are set up carefully, with cross-overs a la Plushenko at his peak and Yagudin (and other skaters from the past). The transitions are undermining the jumps.

  • his PCS score is ABSURD. 95 PCS? a joke. even TES is way inflated.

Now I understand why he lost in 2010.

  • @Tommymanjusri And Chan's is not, of course.

  • I like his skating....always have. Yes I see the lack of flow blah blah blah. He demonstrates that he knows who is is and he skates that way. Refreshing considering men skaters that have recently been at the top in 2010 and 2011.

  • He's probably the best jumper I've ever seen, but half this program was just doing crossovers preparing for jumps. I'll give him credit when he can weave complex choreography and knock off the jumps. Also, his spins lose steam at the end, but I guess that will come with more training. It's definitely not going to be a cakewalk for him.

  • @VWYL900802 What are the new things? Who can create them easily? Why other skaters fail jumps so many? Who can execute the program completely like plushenko including quads now?

I like his new programs and surprised he improved himself to this level after surgery in summer and did hard rehab and won #1. He would improve his programs further and complete them in the future. All are for his dream 2014 Sochi Olympics. No one can rob it.

  • Gosh, I missed him in competitive skating. He's the KING!

  • IO TI ADOROOOOOOOOOO!

  • Comment removed

  • What a great talent and passion for the skate! It looks there is no wasted motion in his performance and he looks sporty but also he has an elegance.

I support for his challenge for 2014 Sochi Olympics!

I'm sure he can get overcome many difficulties and make his dream come true!!!

  • Great !!! But he could shave first!!!

  • @EEDiazL - Yags did not always prevail!! I am not so sure he would have easily retired, he was a great competitor just like Plushy. As far as I am concerned I would not have had a problem watching the two of them battle it out for 20 years because they pushed each other to the limit and made it so out of this world!!! I was a Yags fan to begin with but I also became Plushy fan in the process, hence I do not think Yags was superior but that is because I did not allow myself to be blinded with H!

  • @EEDiazL If you were really Yags fan you would have known he was sidelined by his hip injury otherwise we would have seen plenty more Yags/Plushy battles. And it would have been just magnificent!!!!

  • @AligolP Exactly!!! And as a Yagudin fan I can probably say the man after 4 more years after SLC would have said: I got enough of this, I have accomplished everything I set out to, and now is time to retire and move on!!!! rather than just pretending the world of figure skating is mourning and dead without him. Rivals can only battle so many times before people can become bored of their battles. Yagudin always came on top, and by all means is far superior to this guy.

  • @lala630312 CONTINUATION FROM BELOW: no men's figure skating. Wrong! All sports are evolving and revolving doors, one out the other one in!!! This year's GPF mens comp was the big ticket, and Plushy was nowhere around. Last season men's World's was an eagerly awaited event. Without Plushy in it!!! The truth is, there are newer, perhaps better skaters than him. No one is eternally unsurpassible. It seems to me his eternal rival Yagudin was able to move on with his life and career.

  • @EEDiazL But i know, because of Plushy and his supporters the ISU changed the rules. Finally! When Yagudin retired Plushy was only 19, he was at the beginning of his carrier! And he was the eternal rival to Yagudin? :) Chan is 21, Daisuke is 25, Kozuka is 22, Rippon is 21, Joubert is 27 right now! I think Plush will be better like Joubert.... or Joubert must withdraw? :)

Otherwise Plush said that today's Figure Skating became more difficult, this is progress!

  • @EEDiazL I totally agree with you: his spins are horrible...

  • for some reason i've never really liked him that much, but damn his jumps are awesome.

  • He IS a legend, no doubt... BUT he's never done it for me - even when at his best 2000-2006 (and had great choreography too) I always preferred Yagudin (possibly my favourite male skater of all time, who not many mention here). I wish him luck... the program could do with more polish and better transitions... but, hell, who am I to criticise him! Let's face it... Quad triple combos are amazing!

  • @xxzenyaxx - I agree with you, there is no way that three falls do not disrupt the program in general. The thing is that the new scoring system is such that it requires more (well executed) transitions and spins and rewards them well enough. If it was up to me I would work on trying to find the balance between the new and old scoring system that would ensure just reward for artistic but would still sanction falls more severely because I do not enjoy people being rewarded for failure!

  • Oh,I'm surprised when I read some comments: "it's nothing, he hasn't chance to beat Chan, or Daisuke(I don't like Chan).Of course, because he didn't skate for two years, he had a lot of phisical and mental fight with himself, and with injuries. BUT! He could win, and it was well-deserved win.He learn many new elements, and I'm sure in the next season he will be in great shape and he will be able to win again. I know his will, mind, and soul! EVGENI YOU ARE MY HERO, YOU ARE MY INSPIRATION!

Perfect performer and master of skating!

  • @thesignofvirgo - it has always been/will be like that with skating. I always felt that everything Urmanov did was pure gold but for some strange reason (:P) some people disagreed. As long as we allow for the difference in opinions and perception and do not lash at each other it will all be fine! However it has to be noted that the general reaction to Plushenko is very intense (more than any other skater) it is either utter love or strong dislike - there seem to be no gray(neutral) areas!!!

  • @AligolP In fact, we should not discuss tastes, which are personal. You can enjoy a style and a skater more than others and that's fine. The question refers to the scoring system and this is important because FS is still a sport. So, many transitions are art for the simple fact that there are, as some say? a program with fewer transitions is less artistic? transitions shuold be worth more than jumps to the point you can fall 3 times and still win? My answers are not.

  • @xxzenyaxx So true!!!! I agree with you!!!!

  • Now that was a piece of art.

  • @xxzenyaxx Ah, Urmanov - I was in love with him for ages :) I myself do prefer the "oldies" such as Lambiel, Abt, Weiss,Stanic Jeanette, Weir but every sport undergoes changes and those who want to survive need to keep up. I am sure Plushenko and his team are aware of all the changes and will adapt as much as possible. But whatever happens he shall be remembered as one of the greatest ever!!!

  • @thesignofvirgo - So true ;) Some skaters just don't do it for me no matter how hard they try...Anyway I am sure it should not be too hard for people to agree to disagree on some issues!

  • @AligolP Yes, it shouldn't ... but just reading the comments to this video shows you how the perception of this performance is totally different from one bunch of people to another :)

  • @thesignofvirgo - Sorry, I went on and on without saying what I really wanted to. It took years and me being ready to give him credit before I was able to see it. Of course you have a point when you say that he is more powerful than elegant - I just wanted to say that for me he does have a certain elegance as well and cannot be compared with Brian in that segment. But I am drifting away again, so I better stop!

  • @AligolP He he, I have the same problem sometimes. You see, it's so difficult to decide who is better than who when you have in front such great talents. I believe that eventually it's mainly a matter of taste...

  • @thesignofvirgo I agree about the judging and though I like that fact I tend to disagree that two or three falls do not hinder the program, but hey that is me....I also tend to disagree about Plushenko. I am huge fan of Alexei and have not been Plushenko's fan until he blew me away with that Bolero SP. Having seen that I have sort of gradually begun to appreciate his interpretation which though different from Alexei's is certainly not non - existent.

  • @thesignofvirgo - That is true,, but we cannot in all honesty say Brian is finished especially with the ability of others to mess up quite often. The EC is where he feels comfortable, He does have a meltdown tendency at WC's but he always does well at the Europeans.

As for Plushenko I belive he has a chance to podium providing he continues to improve. Besides their names carry a certain weight (not to my liking but it seems to be the case with Chan too) so we shall see

  • @AligolP I agree that their name may influence somewhat the judges, and I have nothing against either Brian or Evgeni. My impression, though, is that nowadays elements like transitions and choreography have much more weight in the judges evaluations than in the past (that's why Chan wins so much), and skaters like Joubert and Plushenko, who are more powerful than elegant (in spite of what the fanatics are writing here), have many less chances than in the past to win against Chan or the Japs.

  • @thesignofvirgo Please ake your labels of Plushenko's fans and go else where. "Japs" by the way is a derogatory, so please show some respect for Russian and Japanese skaters.

  • Comment removed

  • @floryan2705 Continue: By stating that Plushenko is more powerful than elegant I am not insulting anybody; to me it is more an insult to common sense to claim the opposite. The man himself knows it, and that's why he is working so hard on spins and transitional elements.

  • @AligolP For the EC you may be right, but even there I believe there's a couple of skaters who may have slighter better chances to win, based on what I've written before.

    Time will tell! :-)

  • Gotta admire the guy for coming back again. Takes a lot of self-respect and confidence. You can't expect more from him. It's gonna be a great world championships. Evgeni need not place in the top 3 because the men's field has ran away from him, but it's great to have him in competition. Such a talent wasted if he doesn't keep competing at least for another 3 years.

  • yes yes Evgeni the best

  • And he's so boring: tango in 2006, tango in 2010, tango in 2011, let's go, try an other theme for FS... All the three programs written here have Marton's music and near exactly the same choreography...

  • @GioMariatex97 That wasn't a tango in 2006. This year's music wasn't written or even remixed by Marton. I'm just glad he returns. This season almost every skaters have awful programs, exept maybe Hanyu and Abbot so Plushenko's not worse. I belive he would try another program next year, but it's not the most important thing right now.

  • He is special, without a doubt, but when A. Mishin compared Evgeni to Jesus Christ that was too much

  • KING Plushenko is BACK, : D !!

    BreathtaKING !! : )

Evgeni... You were the BEST of the 2000's,

    but I'm sorry : /,

GACHINSKI IS the NEXT KING : D !!

    GO Prince GACHINSKI !!

  • He's BAAACK! Thanks goodness! He oozes absolute confidence. His skills (quad-triple combos) combined with his attitude (gesturing.."ok, come on, you can clap now" near the end) is exactly what this sport needs. Yes, he's a gifted athlete, but he also has the magic touch with the audience. It's called charisma. It can't be taught. Thanks for posting this!

  • @lavergne100 that's from years of performing. Comebacks are best when the person brings something new to the table. to me, he's still doing the same tricks, but SLOWER! I'll admit, I'm not a fan of Pushy, and honestly, I do applaud for his love for Russia and his fans and also the sport, but if you've got injury, you can't do anything more, you can't stack up to all the others in the world, coming back is only gonna bring tears in the end. We don't need old materials here, we need innovations!

  • @VWYL900802 Yes, like Chan! Chan is the great innovator! His innovations were the falls! 2 or 3 falls in every programs!!

  • @VWYL900802 yes, and thats why you should shut up!!!!! We ALL can appreciate and be inspired by someone like Plushenko. im not even a fan of him. To be able to come back at this level, after winning all faces of competions over and over, with multiple world champs, 3 olympic medals including a GOLD! damnnn talking about ballz, courages, drives, and determination!!!!!!!!

  • Plushenko IS artistry. People just expect ballet nowadays. I could barely force myself to watch anything since Vancouver, so glad he's back!

  • Evgeny is the only male skater ever to give me goosebumps, to make me smile like a giddy idiot, and to make me cheer and fist pump like mad, and to make me feel his sorrows...all in the same program. His artistry is unmatched by anyone right now. Lysa-who? Patrick who? It's so easy to forget about his injuries, surgeries and age. The KING has truly come back to us.

  • @marichankitty1 you are so right! :)))))))))))

  • @marichankitty1 I agree 100%...My eyes are glued to him from the moment he takes the ice. He's so confident that it's breathtaking!

  • i like Plushenko and Brian Joubert and Javie Fernandez very much :)

  • did he win the russian nationals::)? please tell he really did:)

  • @eurydike Yes,he won!

  • @iloveplushenko great !!!!!!

  • thesignofvirgo - the last I heard Brian won the French nationals too (his 8th if I remeber well)...hence, finished - I think not!

  • @AligolP Joubert is a great jumper but he is pretty weak in the program components, which in modern figure skating are taking more and more relevance

  • Congratulations!

  • Chan is a bit shaky often enough - (not saying that Plushenko is at the top of his game) but with performances I have seen from others this year he does have a chance of being at the podium......

  • He has non chance to beat Chan: technically he is ok but artistically this program is awful: no transitions, no choreography, just jumps and arm movements... boring...

  • @GioMariatex97 @thesignofvirgo We can say Chan is only transitions, becouse he really is and find him much more boring. I don't see emotions, pathos, art anything but steps. And I'm not the only one: figure skating has lost a lot of audience in these years, becouse people dislike the style of young generations. Surely P. has to work and improve, according to physically conditions, but a competition is over when it's over. I guess we're going to have some interesting competitions, finally.

  • @xxzenyaxx It's all a matter of taste. I personally appreciate figure skating much more now than when it was only jumps, jumps and more jumps. I would not mind to see Plushenko fight for victory, as I have nothing against him. He is simply not my favorite skater :-)

  • @thesignofvirgo I don't agree with you when you say it was only jumps. Becouse to me art is not transitions or footwork. That's the point. I still think, for example, Yagudin, Urmanov, Petrenko had much more artisty than these kind of ice dancers we see nowdays. I say classical ballet is not less artistic than jazz dance just becouse people make more movements...

  • @xxzenyaxx Luckily we are all allowed to express our opinions here, so I respect yours just as much as I'm sure you respect mine :-)

  • @GioMariatex97 Really? Chan is a great skater but his programs are often full of mistakes and even falls... And this program of Plushenko HAS transitions and good spins. Of course he needs to improve the jumps, he has a lot of work to do but he knows that: he's a fighter and he'll succeed. Please stop saying Plush lacks artistry, he's the most exciting skater ever!

  • @GioMariatex97 Chan is boring, not Plush.

  • @GioMariatex97 Totally agree. Chan has the technical AND artistry - and his musicality can't be beat.

  • @GioMariatex97 I agree it's a matter of taste. I find Chan exquisitely boring. Chan can glide, but I prefer Plushenko's worst performance to Chan's best. Plushenko has drama and character in his dance; Chan has no expression, no emotion. I feel that today the suspense is gone from figure skating.

  • @floryan2705 I totally agree with you, you couldn't put it better. Obviously Chan is an excellent skater but he doesn't move me in the least whereas Plushenko is pure drama, passion and excitement all in one. He's never boring or dull even when he isn't perfect, you feel his strong personality through his skating. I adore his style and class!

  • plushenko is awful these days!!!! he cannot touch chan he is the future of the sport

  • @Frenchy1984

I agree with you on this one a 100%

  • @Frenchy1984 well, maybe chan will be good in the FUTURE, but NOW Plushenko is the best.

  • @GioMariatex97 In the history of ice skating Plushenko is a legend, Chan, at the moment, is nobody and with all those bows and swinging makes me sick: a bunch of deep edges should not negate that often he falls and stumbles. Plushenko stays equally graceful and sophisticated in executing scary jumps and managed to transform figure skating into real art resisting the modern tendency which emphazises dancing movements.

  • And I also must say this music perfect for him.

  • Yes, the King is most certainly back. It is not perfect, and he knows that. He still has work to do, and I see him easily winning a seventh European title next month in Sheffield. His only real challenge there is Brian Joubert. I'm sorry to the other Russian skaters, but no one in Russia is quite like him. I don't think anyone in the world commands the ice and the audience the way he does. I can't wait to see how much better he is next season after his surgery after Europeans.

  • @GiaSesshoumaru If this was posted two years ago I would agree with you, but Joubert is history now and Fernandez, Brezina and Amodio have more chances to be in the podium than Plushenko

  • @thesignofvirgo I'm saying if he does the same 250's... Fernandez has never done that, Joubert can but often doesn't. He could, I think. Brezina has been done 210 - 220's this season, and Amodio the same.

  • @GiaSesshoumaru The evaluations in the Russian championships are notoriously overblown. In an international competition, this performance would have got around 230 points; Fernandez did 247,55 last month. I agree with you that Brezina and Amodio have underperformed so far in this season, and Plushenko can indeed improve in the transitional elements; however I would be very surprised to see an easy victory at the European championships.

  • @thesignofvirgo So what? It's normal practice on every National Championship. France, Spain, Italy - everywere skaters get much higher scores then they could get on International events.

  • @slavaro1992 I was simply replying to the remark that he got more than 250 points, as you can read in the previous posts. Furthermore, at the Japanese championships last week the judges were very strict with the ladies, so it's not true that it always happens.

  • @thesignofvirgo Because Japan has a very strong single skaters. Unfortunatelly, Russia has just a few. So the leaders get a much higher marks. For examples, in the same championship ladies got not as big scores, not more than 125 in FS.

  • Thanks a lot for uploading this video so quickly! I'm so happy Evgeni won his deserved 9th national title. Obviously after a lot of injuries and 2 years off he cannot be in top form yet, but he's always the king of the ice. His performance in the free was amazing, I love this new program better than the short, his spins and transitions are way better than in Torino or Vancouver. The Russian legend is back! Congratulations, Evgeni, you are special!!

  • I love this man so much! And YES he is amazing. But being perfectly honest this is not his BEST and he needs to get so much better if he expects to win international competitions

  • @judymulder that's what he said. But it's so good having him back. A true champ... physically and mentally he's so damn strong. Despite injuries, surgeries and age. Long live the king.

  • He is an amazing athlete, the LP was so much more convincing than the SP despite the faults. No offense to the "new guard" at home and abroad - the king is back !

  • Superhuman! I loved his reaction at the end.

  • Thanks for your all posting! I love figure skating!

  • Congratulations, Evgeni !!!
