@fragglerock5000 Hi, my understanding was that it is to eliminate the "popping/hiss" sound that comes from speaking/singing words with a P or S.

My local radio station has the same for advert recordings in studio. I may be wrong in this case, but that's what I was told anyway.

@4eh1 Seriously? When a song is recorded in the studio VERY seldom is it all done at once. Individual parts are recorded, and then mixed together.

Not everything gets recorded at the same time on a typical studio album. First is usually drums, bass and some acoustic guitar and/or piano. Then the vocal tracks are recorded. After that, additional guitars, etc are added. Then it's mixed and mastered to perfection. Rarely is everything done at once. Mainly because it's a massive pain in the ass and difficult to do.

@phantom4x4: yes, i noticed it too. the reason for that is when the radio stations play any song they have the option of editting the song however they want. if they don't choose to do this, the song will sound how it does off the album. I have heard "need you now" on alice 967, y101, and Q97 and they all sound different from each other because the radio stations decided to edit the song. This is why the background music sounds different. Hope this helps.
