The french support, in matter of fleet logistic, material, powder and guns, is a fact. But the declaration of war was not the king of France's will. He was be forced by La Fayette and a small group of French officers who sales to America to bring a direct support to the Insurgents. At this moment these officers were considered as Outlaws in France. Later, by consideration of the new opportunities for France, the King will approve La Fayette's actions.
After romping through the winter forests of Maine for two months, Arnold was proud of the men that had survived the trip and probably believed he was invincible. Waiting around for Montgomery was the worst idea. Had he been a few days early, he would have met little British resistance and Quebec might have been convinced enough to join the United States, which was falling more in favor of France.
Question is, would Arnold's men have had the morale to fight had they gone on without Montgomery?
@filthmonger171 did they request for these armies to come protect them? did they have any say in the rate of these taxes, or were they arbitrarily assigned to them?
@reenactor19th no man can choose how much tax they pay or they wouldnt pay them. and even after the increase the colonies were still a tax haven compared to europe. and more importantly without the armies the indians would have massacred the settlers so the army was a necessity. either that or britain should surrender its most valuable piece of the empire to the french
@filthmonger171 But it wasn't until after the french and indian war that Britain decided to keep a standing army in the colonies. France was defeated in North America, the Indians had been pushed across the Ohio. All men can decide not to pay taxes if those taxes have been arbitrarily assigned to him without somebody representing his interests. And it was a haven for European earners, colonial GDP was a bit less.
1.) there would be no modern day Canada, Britian would have lossed land possesions in Quebec and Ontario and the maritime provinces would have been absolved into the United States and as well as the rest of modern day Canada eventually
what really happens:
-british colonies in canada do not join the federal union and make a country of their own and for the next 150 americans hate canadians and always scream about how easy they could conquer them
@kyle887923 what gives you the right to say "americans hate canadians and always scream about how easy they could conquer them " I don't hate anyone your type of talk is what draws people into hate of another people.
@reenactor19th Have you ever seen how the American Media portrays Canadians? Maybe you dont hate us, but Americans in general have no respect for Canada.
@kirokyukan You say that as if mad respect flows from Canada to the US. To answer your question, honestly no. What would you have us do to 'show respect'? And there's no maybe. We don't hate Canada. Canadian singers and actresses are some of the top artists in the US, so I'm not seeing hatred or disrespect in American culture. This feels more like you finding a reason to be prejudiced against the US, rather than US affrontery.
@reenactor19th Not portraying Canadians as dim witted in your movies would be a start for showing respect. Not hanging our flag upside down during the world series would also show respect. How about giving us a shout out as your long time ally while addressing the nation immediately following 9/11. Then they wanna bitch and whine when we want to leave a war that we werent even wanted in. Did they forget? America let the world go to war without helping anybody but themselves during WW2.
@kirokyukan what movie? and with the flag? you mean with the Marine Corps apologized profusely publicly and then carried it in Toronto? Or do you mean when a Canadian sang the anthem wrong? leave 9/11 alone. There's more to the war spat than what you're saying and you know it. Let me get this, we go to war and we're wrong. We don't go to war, and we're still wrong? The world forgets...not us.
@reenactor19th Not many people complained when America invaded Afgahnistan. What everybody bitched about including American citizen was their quest for gold when they invaded Iraq on a campaign of lies. Can you understand the difference?
@kirokyukan so, in other words i successfully defended the points you made against the U.S. disrespecting Canada, and now you're on Iraq. Why are you upset? Iraq is over. We aren't fighting there anymore. And by Iraq, you're talking about that initially world-supported, U.N. resolution backed invasion? The same invasion that British, Canadian, U.S., Israeli, and Russian intelligence stated there were weapons? Again, the world forgets...I don't know why you're so upset.
@reenactor19th Iraq is over??? Then why are there so many soldiers there? Why is the body count higher after the war was declared over then it was during the actual invasion. I honestly dont remember any Canadian politician claiming to be sure of weapons in Iraq. What I remember was Canadas stance against the war, and wanting to give Iraq more time to comply with the UN.
@kirokyukan It is over. I didn't say soldiers were out. I said the combat mission was over. There are 35,000 there and they're training. Again, I didn't say Canadian politicians claimed weapons, I said Canadian intelligence, along with much of the rest of the world, claimed intelligence of weapons. It was featured in the presentation before the U.N. Again, you're arguing points I didn't say.
@reenactor19th The combat aint over either. Thats why soldiers are still dying. Honestly all I remember was Colin Powell showing American intelligence before the UN. Not that I doubt you, but could you possibly state a source for what you say?
@kirokyukan No, you're right, there will be combat for a while, but the US combat mission ended, and all of our combat MOS's are being shifted to Afghanistan. The US deaths lately were in training scenarios and chopper crashes, etc. These comments won't let me post URL, but Google the different countries and intelligence leading to war.
@reenactor19th Im looking everywhere and I can' find anything about Canadas role in finding/falsifying evidence to go to war. I can find tons of it about the states though. I remember Bush ruining Powells political career by electing him to address the world with Bushs bogus intelligence. I would like to believe that it was all Bushs fault, but the fact is even after all the evidence of his corruption Americans decided to re-elect him.
@kirokyukan you should have found putin's comments in '04, the documents in '06, the US, British, Russian, and Canadian intelligence of suspicious images. Where the Canadians got it right was their interpretation. You should also have found the intel loop controversy between Canada, the US, and Britain. Hope this helps.
@reenactor19th Cant you just type in a phrase that I could google to locate your sources? What you seem to have said is that Canada had intelligence stating they too seen these suspicious images but didnt agree that they were WMDs? Which would mean Canada never had any evidence of WMDs.
@kirokyukan sorry, it's a lot of searching in the late pages. to answer your last question, yes. Canada saw much of the initial images, supplied some, and then decided there was not decisive proof.
@kirokyukan new wikileaks cables also show the US from '04 to today showing an expressed interest in making sure Canada did not feel we were upset with them over not joining the war. Paraphrasing it states that regardless our tactical differences we share much more. I don't know, man. it seems like we're trying.
@reenactor19th What movie??? The last movie I seen with a dig towards Canada was "Grown Ups", where the portray a Saskatoon guy with a French accent who was both stupid and a wussy. Lets test how well apologies work? I think your a stupid redneck goof. So sorry! Did that erase my insult? No. Even though I dint even mean it. Why should Canadians even know your anthem? How is that an insult? Do you know our anthem?
@kirokyukan When did I insult you? And when did I say a Canadian got our anthem wrong? It was a Canadian that sang the Canadian anthem wrong. I haven't been trying to talk about Canadian insults against the US. I've been patiently responding to what you've been saying. For some reason you went from discussion to just vitriolic raging. Sorry you misunderstood my post.
@reenactor19th You didnt insult me, but my point was that Americans often insult everybody. I guess I did misunderstand your point of the Canadian Anthem, but I now dont understand how Canadians singing their anthem wrong, fit into your post.
@kirokyukan Gaffes happen, you know? The Marine Corps accidentally held the Canadian flag wrong, but went through pains to correct it. Canadian singer sang the Canadian anthem wrong. That singer didn't mean any more insult to Canada than the US did. People mess up on occasion, you know? I certainly have. I don't think American really mean to insult. No doubt it sometimes happens, but I think part of it is also ppl looking to be insulted.
@reenactor19th You guys hung the flag wrong twice??? The time Im talking about was during the 91' or 92' world series, when the opposing team raised the flag wrong. I think they apologized, but the snub was well noted in Canada. Yeah your right people do mess up, and I guess its cool the some of you are trying to make up for it, but mostly America just gives a bunch of excuses for their behavior. Seriously though you think an apology will make up for it? Actions speak louder then words.
@kirokyukan I'm talking about the same thing. The Marine Corps then carried the flag in Toronto as a way of apologizing. This goes to respect and also to my suspicion that you're trying to find reasons to be insulted. We didn't just apologize. We carried the flag in Toronto. We showed respect. See, you got all pissy again. It's like the guy that took down the 9/11 memorial and ripped it up and put it under a rock and replaced it w/ a Canadian flag.
@kirokyukan if you are Iroquois I honestly don't understand why you care about Canadian and American. But you are right about American, I think everybody hate them now and I don't say that with the intention of insulting them, it's just a fact. Many nation are ally with America out of fear of economic or military sanction, not becasue they respect them. This is not a good ways to make ally. By the ways Canada flag is always upside down during Mohawks manifestation...
@Patriote17 i don't think everyone hates us; even the wikileaks (which were supposed to destroy us) show that. You may hate us, and others do, but not everoyone. not to insult, but we don't spend much time with people who claim to hate us. Let such a corrosive feeling destroy you if you want. Just don't blame it on us.
@reenactor19th you are right, people don't hate you as such. I have a lot of respect for the American people but I don't like your government and elite, I don't like my government and elite either.
@Patriote17 true. governments are easy targets. what we all have to try and remember is that there is a lot more that brings us together than divides us. i am happy to have spoken with you. have a good day.
@kirokyukan see, we were discussing, and now i've answered your questions to your chagrin and you're only attacking and name-calling. why should i respect the way you are behaving? you're actually thinking of a series of missteps after Russia was pushed out of Afghanistan that led to the rise of the Taliban. It was an attempt to incorporate Afghan into the world. It worked w/ Japan after WWII (led to Japan, Inc.). Wasn't successful in Afghan. Why so mean now?
@reenactor19th Some people dont want or need your interference. Most places are better off with out you guys sticking your nose in their affairs. Afgahnistan is a perfect example. Those guys were in a far better state under the communist then they have been under capitalism. They had schools and a centralized government, after the Americans "helped" them they were left in ruins. Its okay tho cause your sorry right?
@kirokyukan It seems I apologized somewhere and that just pissed you off. I can't find where. Now your bias and corrosive hatred is coming out. Of course, we didn't go into Afghanistan to help them, did we? What you have said here is nonsense that is only driven by hate, not by anything else. You got really upset over something and I have no idea why, but you're no longer interested in talking, only in yelling and throwing a tantrum. If you want to continue, fine, but this is going nowhere.
@reenactor19th No after 9/11 America went there to fight, but what I meant by Americans "helping" was their support for the Taliban during the Russian conflict. When the Americans invaded after 9/11 Afganistan was already in ruins because of prior US "liberation".
@kirokyukan We helped them push Russia out, who didn't belong there and we did it without military presence, and then we left the Afghanis to their country. They ruled as they wanted to, and created the society they created. This is, I believe, the current thought that's in vogue? We didn't indoctrinate them with our side of things, most didn't even know we were involved, just like most today don't know about 9/11. That is what the world says it wants of us.
@Patriote17 I've lived off the Rez my whole life. As such I have come to inherit a certain amount of Canadian pride. Cant say I live a traditional life, although lately I've been yearning to learn more, but I do know the festivals and ceremonies I do attend hang the flag properly. Maybe during protest and demonstrations we will hold it upside down, but thats in protest, not lack of respect.
@Patriote17 Maybe I should also mention that my wife is French Canadian who has given me 2 beautiful children, which also sways me to the Canadian cause - as long as they dont contradict the Six nations cause anyways. Plus my general dislike for American politics (not actual Americans) also puts me on the side of Canada when it comes to USA vs Canada.
A fascinating story. It points out the truism that Quebec will always be itself. I'm an English Canadian, but I have always been very proud of Quebec. Thanks for posting.
Why are you ranting about British haters living in former colonies? Do you expect to find sympathizers in these countries, centuries after they seceded from the empire? You sound like an Anglo-Saxon supremist. Btw, depending on who was leading France, opinions on the importance of new France differed.
I've been watching this series out of historic interest minding my own business only to see without fail multiple examples of your simpleton bigotry. We get your point: Anglos are the ubermench and murdered the inferior French for Canadian Lebensraum. Perhaps you've obsessed too much about Quebec history that you neglected to read 1930s German history and have no idea who you really sound like.
Grow up and find something more useful to do with your life PLEASE
Well, in the days before the revolution, the Quebec act was passed, so the french was at elast partially satisfied if not apethetic with the british. Second the french were afraid of punishment by the british if they supported americans. And thrid the french didnt trust the americans, to them this was switching from one english occupation to another.
I'm surprised that the Quebec people did not go with Washington and the Thirteen Colonies. It's sort of ironic,England defeats France...England takes all French claims in North America. Quebec is under English control,Americans want to rebel..and the Quebec people don't want to do it. People would think Quebec would want to break way from English control and side with the Americans. I've heard some theories that if Quebec did go with the Americans, the USA would be all of North America.
I insist, Spain should have join the cause against the British. France and Spain have many things in common, so they should have make a strategic alliance to defeat the British and defend the Catholicism and diminish the power to an important competitor in the colony race.
The things that the Kingdom of France and the Kingdom of Spain had in common were
01) Same Royal Family. The Royal Family of France and the Royal Family of Spain at the time of the French and Indian War (1754-1763) was the Bourbon Family. King Louis XVI of France was the First Cousin of King Ferdinand VI of Spain.
02) Same Religion. The Established Church of the Kingom of France and the Kingdom of Spain was the Roman Catholic Church.
The British and their expansion? What the hell are you talking about, the largest Empire in the New World (America's) was the Spanish Empire, they had South America (Exept Brazil and Uruguay) and Central America along with Cuba and Puerto Rico.
BTW. We all know that former British colonies (America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa) became richer and more powerfull then former Spanish colonies (Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Venezuala, Peru, Bolivia, etc).
If you are so against the British then why the HELL are you living in a former British Colony (The United States), If you hate the British and wanted to stop their expansion then why live a British former Colony, I would suggest you move to a former Spanish Colony either Mexico or Argentina or a the Porrtuguese former Colony of Brazil. It's funny how a lot of British-Haters live in a British Country (Great Britian, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand). All British Haters LEAVE.
I am NOT a British hater like you think, I am just someone that enjoy knowing about the past and analyze and understand some decision taken by the European countries. Things are the way they are now and I don't take it against anyone.
I've been watching this series out of historic interest minding my own business only to see without fail multiple examples of your simpleton bigotry. About French and Spain having the same religion don't forget that in foreign policies France used to give a shit to it. In 30 years war France, a catholic nation entered in protestant side against Spain and Austria in order to save the protestans after Swedish defeat.
In foreign policies France gave a shit to catholicism. They entered in 30YW in protestant side. Franco-spanish aliance deeated britain in US indepedence war.
Well, what relation america revolution has to do with quebec? It all started when genral wolfe won new france so british knew they will fight native that will cost money. They put tax on thirteen colonies. So washington led his men to fight
The First Battle of the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) was not the Battle of Quebec (December 31, 1775) but the Battles of Lexington and Concorde (April 19, 1775) which were fought abuot 234 days before the Battle of Quebec. The Battles of Lexington and Concorde was part of the Boston Campaign which was the 1st Part of the American Revoluitonary War. The Battle of Quebec was part of the Canadian Campaign which was the 2nd Part of the American Revolutionary War.
This was more then a war about tax, the people were tired of the British imperialist colonial system and wanted to form a independant republic. British elite and British army had always hated the Americans colonials...
The American Rebel Leaders (George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, George Hancock, etc) were a bunch of rich bastards who did not want to pay their taxes. The British Americans paid very little tax compared to the British people living in Great Britian at the time. Bostonions paid about a 50th ot the tax that Londoners had to pay. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson where a bunch of hypocrites talking about Freeedom when they own many Black African Slaves that they treated badly.
@dumgum222 the taxes were there to pay for the war, which the thirteen colonies fought. after the war the colonies didn't want to pay their bill and wanted to "liberate" Canada from British "oppression" they had thought that the french would instantly take arms against the British and all the 15 colonies would be united, and eventually assimilated, the french were actually happy with their new Empire and fought for it as hard as they had previously fought against it.
I love how american rebels fighting under flags of East-India company, which was the owner of 13 colonies :D

That singer didn't mean any more insult to Canada than the US did. People mess up on occasion, you know? I certainly have. I don't think American really mean to insult. No doubt it sometimes happens, but I think part of it is also ppl looking to be insulted.
reenactor19th 1 year ago
@reenactor19th You guys hung the flag wrong twice??? The time Im talking about was during the 91' or 92' world series, when the opposing team raised the flag wrong. I think they apologized, but the snub was well noted in Canada. Yeah your right people do mess up, and I guess its cool the some of you are trying to make up for it, but mostly America just gives a bunch of excuses for their behavior. Seriously though you think an apology will make up for it? Actions speak louder then words.
kirokyukan 1 year ago
@kirokyukan I'm talking about the same thing. The Marine Corps then carried the flag in Toronto as a way of apologizing. This goes to respect and also to my suspicion that you're trying to find reasons to be insulted. We didn't just apologize. We carried the flag in Toronto. We showed respect. See, you got all pissy again. It's like the guy that took down the 9/11 memorial and ripped it up and put it under a rock and replaced it w/ a Canadian flag.
reenactor19th 1 year ago
@kirokyukan if you are Iroquois I honestly don't understand why you care about Canadian and American. But you are right about American, I think everybody hate them now and I don't say that with the intention of insulting them, it's just a fact. Many nation are ally with America out of fear of economic or military sanction, not becasue they respect them. This is not a good ways to make ally. By the ways Canada flag is always upside down during Mohawks manifestation...
Patriote17 1 year ago
@Patriote17 i don't think everyone hates us; even the wikileaks (which were supposed to destroy us) show that. You may hate us, and others do, but not everoyone. not to insult, but we don't spend much time with people who claim to hate us. Let such a corrosive feeling destroy you if you want. Just don't blame it on us.
reenactor19th 1 year ago
@reenactor19th you are right, people don't hate you as such. I have a lot of respect for the American people but I don't like your government and elite, I don't like my government and elite either.
Patriote17 1 year ago
@Patriote17 true. governments are easy targets. what we all have to try and remember is that there is a lot more that brings us together than divides us. i am happy to have spoken with you. have a good day.
reenactor19th 1 year ago
@reenactor19th You government is bed fellows with the Binladens and you claim Americans dont spend time with those that hate you? LMAO
kirokyukan 1 year ago
@kirokyukan see, we were discussing, and now i've answered your questions to your chagrin and you're only attacking and name-calling. why should i respect the way you are behaving? you're actually thinking of a series of missteps after Russia was pushed out of Afghanistan that led to the rise of the Taliban. It was an attempt to incorporate Afghan into the world. It worked w/ Japan after WWII (led to Japan, Inc.). Wasn't successful in Afghan. Why so mean now?
reenactor19th 1 year ago
@reenactor19th Some people dont want or need your interference. Most places are better off with out you guys sticking your nose in their affairs. Afgahnistan is a perfect example. Those guys were in a far better state under the communist then they have been under capitalism. They had schools and a centralized government, after the Americans "helped" them they were left in ruins. Its okay tho cause your sorry right?
kirokyukan 1 year ago
@kirokyukan It seems I apologized somewhere and that just pissed you off. I can't find where. Now your bias and corrosive hatred is coming out. Of course, we didn't go into Afghanistan to help them, did we? What you have said here is nonsense that is only driven by hate, not by anything else. You got really upset over something and I have no idea why, but you're no longer interested in talking, only in yelling and throwing a tantrum. If you want to continue, fine, but this is going nowhere.
reenactor19th 1 year ago
@reenactor19th No after 9/11 America went there to fight, but what I meant by Americans "helping" was their support for the Taliban during the Russian conflict. When the Americans invaded after 9/11 Afganistan was already in ruins because of prior US "liberation".
kirokyukan 1 year ago

Maybe during protest and demonstrations we will hold it upside down, but thats in protest, not lack of respect.
kirokyukan 1 year ago

I find it just awesome that the act was passed to help the french and how they joined the Americans to defeat the British
ajay5544 2 years ago
@ajay5544 The Quebec act was passed to appease the recently conquered French colonist, not the French in France.
ifeeltiredsleepy 1 year ago
Well, in the days before the revolution, the Quebec act was passed, so the french was at elast partially satisfied if not apethetic with the british. Second the french were afraid of punishment by the british if they supported americans. And thrid the french didnt trust the americans, to them this was switching from one english occupation to another.
powereater 2 years ago
I'm surprised that the Quebec people did not go with Washington and the Thirteen Colonies. It's sort of ironic,England defeats France...England takes all French claims in North America. Quebec is under English control,Americans want to rebel..and the Quebec people don't want to do it. People would think Quebec would want to break way from English control and side with the Americans. I've heard some theories that if Quebec did go with the Americans, the USA would be all of North America.

Eye for an eye, England invades new France. and They recieve their just deserts from the American revolution with France's aid.

I insist, Spain should have join the cause against the British. France and Spain have many things in common, so they should have make a strategic alliance to defeat the British and defend the Catholicism and diminish the power to an important competitor in the colony race.
juron76 2 years ago
@juron76
BTW France did not care about New France.

Reasons enough to join forces against England and interrupt its expansion.
juron76 2 years ago
@juron76

UnitedEmpireLoyalist 2 years ago
I am NOT a British hater like you think, I am just someone that enjoy knowing about the past and analyze and understand some decision taken by the European countries. Things are the way they are now and I don't take it against anyone.

About French and Spain having the same religion don't forget that in foreign policies France used to give a shit to it. In 30 years war France, a catholic nation entered in protestant side against Spain and Austria in order to save the protestans after Swedish defeat.

The American Revolution started with the battle of Québec in 1775. This was after the French and Indian War...
philbox17 2 years ago
@philbox17

British elite and British army had always hated the Americans colonials...
philbox17 2 years ago
@philbox17
UnitedEmpireLoyalist 2 years ago
@UnitedEmpireLoyalist
I agree with you about Washington and Jefferson talking about freedom while they had slaves. Hipocracy!
pledoux 1 year ago
@dumgum222 the taxes were there to pay for the war, which the thirteen colonies fought. after the war the colonies didn't want to pay their bill and wanted to "liberate" Canada from British "oppression" they had thought that the french would instantly take arms against the British and all the 15 colonies would be united, and eventually assimilated, the french were actually happy with their new Empire and fought for it as hard as they had previously fought against it.
