  • @bradleyblackster you do realize the cars are designed to do that? Breaking apart actually helps dissipate the energy from the crash, therefore protecting the drivers.

  • its better than watching vettel being boring

  • I don't know why people seem to think single file restarts are boring. They're not.

  • Comment removed

  • Dan Wheldon could win this race if that last acident didn't happen.

  • look how quickly that car disintegrated...these cars are fairly entertaining but safety wise they are a joke

  • Pit crews sucks in here. They cant find a job in f1 lol

  • Why did they get a penalty?

  • @TheAssistantReferee The #43 of John Andretti supposedly "blocked" Dan Wheldon; not the right call, IMO, just another of those "Brian Barnhardtnesses".

The #30 of Graham Rahal also did not move from his line at all, same "blocking" bullshit (again, w/ Dan Wheldon).

I call both moves as "Andretti defensive line", there's nothing wrong with them, IMO.

  • Both are amazing, though F1 cars are much, much more sophisticated, and overall faster, both are Amazing! ^_^

  • For those of you who don't see the point in racing in circles, F1 is just racing in more elaborate circles. I like both sports. Can't we all just get along?

  • @LentBenton ...You serious?

  • I don't get the idea behind racing in circles.

  • the comparison to f1 is just dumb ..... i just want loud engines and great racing

  • I personally like this better than F1

  • Formula 1 sucks !

  • I came on here to see what indy was like, and it has to be be the most boring motorsport event ive ever seen.but each to there own i suppose.

  • is the indy 500 only for indy car drivers or is it open to others too ?

  • @aimalkhan123 If you're referring to drivers in series such as F1 or NASCAR, yes. Problem is, those drivers don't have the time to take the month of May to commit to this race and its impossible to run their respective races [Monaco, Charlotte] in the same day.

  • @aimalkhan123 its open to whomever can get a ride. its just hard to split time between the practices and quals for the 500 and the drivers original series. tony stewart has done it a few times since he has joined nascar. he just get out of one car on to a heli then a plane and gets in his other car. just very taxing on the driver

  • weekly indianapolis bicycle adventure ---> watch?v=41GGNMAAtEg

  • number 1 is so lucky! if it hadnt been a yellow, he would have been second or maybe 3rd!

  • hicks

  • This isn't as good as Formula 1

  • @JamesBond007Videos are you joking me? formula 1 succckkkssss. indy is the besttt.

  • @livelife094 OMG R U Joking Me? Do U Even Watch F1? Button Won Germany On Sunday If U Were Wondering =)!!

  • @JamesBond007Videos haha no i dont actually cause i dont want to and dont need to, and idk who or what Button is..

  • @livelife094 Thats Why U Should Watch F1 And Be A Normal Person

  • @JamesBond007Videos alright dude relax

  • @livelife094 and u

  • @JamesBond007Videos alright. relAaxed :)

  • @livelife094 alright. relaxed :)

  • @JamesBond007Videos YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!!! =)

  • @JamesBond007Videos but its more exiting

  • @JamesBond007Videos Agreed. This is WAY better.

  • @JamesBond007Videos then go away fag and its 10 times better then f1 no one wants to see a german fag win every race

  • @jeffg24LT21 oooh well jell only becoz america aint in it becoz they cant design cars that can go around corners!

  • @JamesBond007Videos first off learn english 2nd both indy cars and nascar race on oval and road coarse's and i believe f1 is racing in america this year so eat it bitch

  • @jeffg24LT21 yea but YOUR'E Not in F1 despite if its coming over there or not. and eat what? learn some common sense

  • 10:03 :O :O :O :O :O :O

  • all of these haters don't even know anything about indy car racing. there looking so retarded thinking all the races are just oval tracks.

  • cann't watch the 95th Indy 500. it isn't broadcast in my county

    :(

  • today the race of all races The 95th Indianapolis 500!!!!

  • My favorite race bar none.

  • "John Andretti just hit the wall"... ok we got you, no need to repeat it

  • Never watched these indy car things... So, they just go round in a big circle - gee, that's impressive.

  • @CockerJonathan - No, they actually race on tracks all over the place, many of which are road courses. In fact, I'd say Indy is a primarily road course racing league, but they do ovals as well.

  • @Complex2k6 So why's the Indy 500 the race that everyone talks about?

  • @CockerJonathan - Why is it important where the 'big' race is held? The Indy 500 is only race 6 of a season of 18 races. It's not as if the rest of the races don't matter. The Indy 500 has history though, which is why it's such a big deal. And after checking, half the races are oval, half are road courses. However, I do recall there being significantly more road course races in the history of the sport. Indy has gone through so many name changes and just changes in general over the years.

  • Worst broadcasters ever......

  • @kilat83

they dont just look like formula 1 cars from the 80s, technology wise and performance wise they are too. "tin pot" cars i think is the proper description for indycars

  • American commentators are actually useless...

  • i hate how the nascar hate comes to this race, im not a fan of nascar, but comparing the two is just ridicules, this is nothing like nascar, f1 is so much more.

  • IS THERE ANYTHING COOLER THAN THE START OF THE INDY 500?

  • @jfsgro absolutely nothing

  • @jfsgro nope

  • For 2011 I'm sitting in the lower level seats on the front stretch near the entrance of turn one. Can't wait!

  • i can't wait till next week for the race

  • this years is gonna be great, cant wait, may 29 can't come soon enough!!!

  • I'm 12 and been going to the race and camping out every year! TURN 2 front row seats is the best bc of the wrecks and stuff CANT WAIT!

  • It was my first time too and I am going again this year! Cant wait!

  • I will watch Indy... if some TV channel in Poland is broadcast it.

    My english sux

  • i am in the turn two suites!!!

  • 100th running South Vista seating! who is with me?!!!!

  • @sylven11 nope we're paddock box

  • f1 owns indy 500 forever.

indy 500 cant do shit in current f1 tracks

  • @mosh1111 and F1 can't run on ovals RACING fans watch racing and it dosen't matter what series or style.

  • @mosh1111

    They're completely different things.

F1 cars are built are built with cornering in mind.

Indys are made for 240mph oval turning.

I personally enjoy F1 a lot more, but to each his own.

  • @LongSchlong9000 why not like both

  • @vtecboi18

Because I personally find ovals boring.

I understand it takes a lot of skill for IRL drivers to do what they do, but I couldn't be bothered to watch them do it for 3-4 hours.

  • @LongSchlong9000 true i always end up watch them towards the end of the race

  • @LongSchlong9000

Then try to watch one of the 10 out of 17 races that are held on road courses this season.

  • @LongSchlong9000 so its like a fast version of nascar

  • @LongSchlong9000 240mph? You wish ^_^

  • @sjmaco Gil de Ferran, Fontana, and Arye Luyendyk, Indy. Over 240 mph. Not on these 2003 Dallara cars, though...

  • 3 points,

1 - the indy 500 pit crews are crap at their job

    2 - Formula 1 is much better

3 - did the driver of car 24 survive

  • @OddMavFly he survived but broke his back.

  • 94th?? then how come there saying this year is the 100th race for the 500? am i missing something?

  • @lakelandchief 2011 is the 100th Anniversary of the first race (1911); the race was not held in the years 1917, 1918, 1942, 1943, 1944, and 1945 because of WWI and WWII so the 2011 will be the 95th Indianapolis 500

  • cant help thinking with the lower downforce these are faster than f1

  • The 2010 Indy 500 was my first Indycar race since the "split." I along with many went down south (i.e., Nascar). With the changes in Nascar and seeing the racing of Indycar, I am now a huge Indycar fan. As the song goes - Back Home Again in Indiana!!!!!

  • lol f1 plus nascar= indy 500 :P

  • Ok...but calling a Scot a Brit is sort of like calling a white supremacist a ni**er.

  • Perhaps a bit ironic that Conway is return to indycar with the same team that took him out of indycar last May?

  • damn, good that catchfence was there..

  • this is so kwl, crash at 40secs

  • i remember this race i was sitting on the top of the short strech of turn 1 and 2 best seats ever i even remeber than first crash

  • I love indy

  • Mike Conway really ruined a potentially great finish. All that guy does is crash! And what does he get in return? A deal with Andretti Autosport! What a joke, Conway is the new Kevin Cogan!

  • @jetfan4life Shows what you know about Mike Conway. He's been on a crappy team and still posted some very good finishes. Ever bothered to look at his GP2 career? Kicked ass in that series, and he'll be kicking ass this season. Prepare to eat crow. All you're doing is showing your ignorance.

  • @RexJava1975 I must admit I only followed Conway's IndyCar career, and that comment was more geared towards his IndyCar finishes. I'll also admit I was impressed with his speed at St. Pete, but unfortunately because he was taken out in the first turn we can't tell how he would have handled the race itself. We will see how he does with a competitive team. I appreciate your comment.

  • Now this is good racing, ever since the combined the series doubling the amount of racers its been awesome.

  • The American mechanics are noobs

  • Love how the Brits beat the Yanks at their own game =P. But yeah, F1 > Indy + Nascar.

  • look at justin wilson's car at 01:18 go up in sparks!

  • why did i think indy 500 was nascar?

  • Indianapolis 500 Race

  • INDY 500 RACE Indianapolis

  • first time since montoya that we have a colobian driver go Sebastian Saavedra

  • Could have been a great race, but Brian Barnhart ruined it for me. Too many blocking calls, and way too inconsistent in the way he was calling them. His firing is way overdue!

  • the indy 500 is the most awesome indy race because indianapolis speedway is greater then a regular race track and that indycars go faster and the straightaways are really huge!!!!

  • Really, I like John Andretti, and I don't think they should of black flagged him.

  • Only the stupid americans can understand these silly races on an oval track where the cars are just going round and round...

  • @85devotee Yep, because non-Americans like Nigel Mansell never ran at Indy...*rolls-eyes*

  • @dot350

Mansell ran at Indy only for his fun. The fact that he immediately won the title in 1993 shows how easy this serie is.

  • @85devotee It's so easy, but he wasn't able to win the Indianapolis 500 was he? In fact, he made rookie mistakes in the '93 running.

And if the series was as easy as you claim it was, how come he didn't win in '94? The current series might be "easy" (if you drive for Penske or Ganassi), but the CART PPG IndyCar World Series was much harder with much more competition.

  • im british this is better than f1

  • big good video jeeeeeeeeeeee the best

  • super video

  • ahahahahahaha amateurs. Americans are funny though, gotta give them that. No idea about racing, but putting noobs in shitty cars and crashing them into walls is an entertaining concept. LOL, no offence. The Indys look like fun.

  • i got my best mate over to watch the race, he never seen it before, i imagine he will be coming over next may

  • "John Andretti's in the wall.......John Andretti just hit the wall......oh....John Andretti just hit the wall"

Hey man, did John Andretti hit the wall???

  • The time has come for Free energy to be revealed ,But Elite controllers don't want ppl to be free from the costs of energy,Find a motor that needs no fuel or input at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Start the energy revolution!

  • @despinapjr = retard. There is no such thing as free energy. Only efficient energy conversion. Try studying physics.

  • It is a shame that they now have a guy that ADMITTEDLY doesn't know anything about auto racing running the IRL. The final race at Miami that should have had a hugh crowd, had the entire grandstands that were almost EMPTY!

Next year they are having 4 road course races and NO OVALS before the Indy 500...maybe they want to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the race with an historic amount of empty seats!

  • Haha - "the greatest spectacle in racing" - what, going round and round in a circle, I don't think so.

  • @PowderpuffPuncher Here´s another closed-minded racing fan.

    "Be water my friend"

  • @PowderpuffPuncher lmao this...

  • The public is small for 500 mile??

  • terrible commentator :P

  • KILL BRIAN BARNHART

  • thank god these were just the Stream announcers...I couldn't STAND them if they were on TV.

  • Does anyone else agree that all the black flags were bullshit?

  • @hybanks2000 Yes. I think dan was just creeping up then suddenly moving to make it look like they were trying to block him. Tisk Tisk.

  • @hybanks2000 VERY bullshit

  • I was at the Indy 500 and i saw that final crash. EPIC!!! congrats for Dario! :)

  • indy 500 is the shit!! best cars ever.... fuck the coke 600 wtf is that bullshit

  • I've been comin here scince 2007

  • Am I the only one who thought that the blocking penalty on Andretti was completely stupid? Soured the race a little for me, but overall, as my first full Indy 500 that I've ever watched, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Great stuff, the lead itself wasn't too exciting but that is down to Franchitti's skill, not something he should be blamed for, he deserved victory, great race.

  • Why is MY VIDEO playback of these 2010 INDY 500 highlights in 720 pixels choppy with constant pausing... why won' t it play Chop Free? It does well @ 360 & 480...IS YouTUBE responsible or....?

  • @SleepingGiant1966 lack of a good computer

  • @hybanks2000 in regards....to your post...it was the internet provider...not the computer....plays fine @ 720 pix now...my high speed connection is well now... although thanks for the comment maybe due to the day of the race the youtube traffic for video replays of the " CRASH " @ INDY was causing my network to freeze up...

  • A bad day fishing beats the freekin' heat at INDY...I was fishing...

BUT what a race..Damn- wish I lost my bait !!!

  • Indianapolis-type racing cars have gotten a lot safer over the past 30 years.

Had Mike Conway's crash happened as recently as the early 1980's, he probably would have been killed instantly.

  • What a ridiculous sport. And what a ridiculous commentation xD

7:55 man he is into this sport, this passion and excitement!

"Here comes the race leader, he's gonna have to pit. Here he comes. MIKE CONWAY's in the pit, so Wilson goes to the lead.

Look at Tony Cannan driving hard. Look at T.K. trying to get around Marco. He does."

  • Where Dale Jr?....

  • Best race so far this season, and in years! Action, fails, crashes, things you didn't expect... TK from last to almost first, Mike Conway who leads a while and later airborns in the last lap, Elyo with pit problems, running back in the field, smashing with fist on the steering wheel, but coming back with strategy, poor Rafa, Well-Done again second, and Daryo Frankie T

  • One of these announcers sound like being retarded or something. Great race though!

  • Damn shame i had to work during this. Looks like it was quite the race

  • This was my first time ever attending the Indy 500. Now I'm addicted for life! Hope to go again next year. I was pulling for Tony Kanaan all the way but he just didn't have the fuel to make it. Plus Dario had the car to beat all day. I think the led 165 out of 200 laps.

  • @lordofice72 yea darios car was just too fast, i was there too, south terasse, it was sooo awesome, I'll be back next year all the way from germany

  • @lordofice72 Same for me except it was my 4th Indy 500

  • @lordofice72 Dude, same for me. This was also my first race and I plan to be there next year.

  • @lordofice72: 155 of 200 laps.

  • @lordofice72 Same here. I was never reallly into racing, but I went in 2006 and I'm in love with indycar and all other racing series.

  • @lordofice72 hopefully me and my buddy are gona go we live in indiana pa atm and go to WyoTech itll be my frist time going to an indy car race ive always wanted to go and now i finally got the chance... any tips about the track? haha

  • @lordofice72 Its still exciting, but bring back guys like Jim Hurtubise and Swede Savage and Ed Elysian and Vuky, anyday ! Those days, drivers and cars WERE AWESOME !

  • i was there and the place was going crazy for TK...it would've been amazing if he would've been able to get past Dario and win it

  • F1 should watch this and take note : this is what top level single seat racing should look like. a true spectacle

  • @stegbs ur kidding right? how is this more exciting than F1? sure the highlights are great, and crashes are spectacular. but most of the race is just going round, and round and round.

  • @ac3jc , granted 500 miles turning left ain't my idea of fun - but when I said spectacle I meant having a race were more than a "handful" of people turn up to support the race, at a circuit which is truly one of the best facilities in the world. Oval racing may be a bit dull at times but it still takes huge amounts of skill - F1 have been to circuits this year where overtaking opportunities are very few and far between, can't say that about Indy! ...

  • @ac3jc last thing - I watched the F1 races and as much of Indy as I could. I watch the racing for fast cars chasing each other down and overtaking, displays of skill and bravery at 200mph, you could say. Have a listen to a UK commentator called John Hindhaugh - he has a similar point of view, but is a lot harsher on processional races

  • @ac3jc >>Ever been to F1 in Europe??Racedayticket $300..,22 cars,18 loosers,no overtakingaction due to idiot Bernie restrictions(Tyres,Aerodynamica,no fuelpiiting),empty stands???

Indy Eric salutes from Amsterdam(4 time Indy 500)(06,07,08,09)Don't be shy,and give it a try and feel robbed on your way home!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @zwienebeer no i havent been to a race in europe, they are really expensive. but the overtaking thing you talk about, there is plenty of overtaking in F1, atleast for me there is. I have been to an indy race, and it was fun as well. i guess I just appreciate both for what they are. good thing is i will soon be able to go to an F1 race since I live in Austin, 2012 US grand prix

  • If the final caution had not come out, would Wheldon have caught and passed Franchitti? This is why we love Motorsport, the cat and mouse scenario that makes it so fascinating.

  • When Ryan Hunter-Reay saw Conway coming at him, I wonder if he had what I like to call a "Bill Cosby moment"...as in "First he SAID IT (HOLY S**T!! or OH, S**T!!) then, he DID IT!!"

  • Conway it's so lucky. I am glad, he's ok! the best indy 500 in my life!

  • i dont like these announcers..

  • @ljsongs3 Quite right. No announcers of the Indy 500, have the same class as Paul Page, Bobby Unser and Sam Pose. I would also add Sir Jackie Stewart to the team. Although he never won the 500, having raced it twice, his knowledge of motor racing in any form is unrivalled.

  • I think Barnhart tried to dictate the whole race. His shady blocking calls, letting Helio get away with another bad start, letting Will Power run around several laps with that fuel nozzle stuck and convinently throwing a yellow for Power so he won't go a lap down. And to top it off, telling Graham Rahal to "give courtesy" to Dario when he was clearly still on the lead lap and not directly affecting Dario's lead.

  • great race, congratulation Mr Dario

  • This was my first Indy 500, and what an experience it was! Great race, best one so far this season.

  • @Rdwomack it was my 7th, probably one of the best, i still like Buddy Rice's more, that was my first race!

  • Best race so far this season, and in years! Action, fails, crashes, things you didn't expect... TK from last to almost first, Mike Conway who leads a while and later airborns in the last lap, Elyo with pit problems, running back in the field, smashing with fist on the steering wheel, but coming back with strategy, poor Rafa, Well-Done again second, and Daryo Frankie T., deserved win. Roger Penske is not amused... W00t!

  • Incredible stuff - very compelling arrangement of highlights...

  • Best race in years!

  • It's a great race, Dario Franchitti becomes the first British driver to win the Indy 500 in two occasions and also the British Drivers became first and second of this year's edition.

Well, that happened before celebrating my 18th birthday.

  • @18PacWest Actually Dario is Scottish.

  • @clay6789 Scottish is a type of British, lol.
