That ain't the only game changed to be based on a licensed game overseas. Here, Puyo Pop was altered as Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. In this case, based on Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (which I love)...but for some reason, Sonic himself isn't in the game.
@ScrewAttackEurope And I guess I'm one of the criminals, as I've never played any of these games. It looks awesome though. Appreciate you doing this video, even if I'm just now seeing it two years late. lol.
@darthnose1993 I wouldn't put it past them, A lot of video games have elements "borrowed" from Japanese sci-fi, pop culture. Like tell me Super Sonic, isn't ripped from Super Sayians from Dragonball Z.
@ScrewAttackEurope I downloaded the Master System version. So far, I've escaped the castle, and am at town. Took me a while to figure out I have to hold up, not just tap up to enter doors.
@PikachuColoredPichu1 Ah yeah, old skool quirks. I think it's better in the long run, nothing more annoying that in a heated fight going into doors you had no intention of going in.
Oh, mainly as there's not archive of the Retro Corners, when Xleague went down, there'd be no other way to ever see them again. But also as I have a lot of American fans and they never saw them at all as Xleague only aired in Europe.
For some reason i can't post a comment so i'm going to comment on reply, thanks for posting, One of my fave game of all time and what first got me into RPG's apart from the Final Fantasy series i'm only interested in action RPG's. I want to play Wonderboy in Monster World for Megadrive as i've never played it. I know Platform RPG are almost non existant apart from paper Mario is there any other platform RPG's you know that are on the PS2/PS3 and mobile phones?..
@taga5000 Yeah, that's some sort of weird glitch on YouTube, I get that a lot, try refreshig the page or goign back to it a bit later on, works for me.
But you got Wonderboy in Monster World AND Monster World IV to play on the Mega Drive, both awesome games!
As for PS2, I think there's a Y's remake on the system, but no others come to mind to me ATM.
@ScrewAttackEurope I've got Wonderboy3 The Dragons Trap for MS, but never played Wonderboy in Monsterworld for the Megadrive, Played games on the Megadrive but never owned one :(
Brazil isn't a really umm economic country..well think of it like this.. brazil is sorta like in recession most of the time and i think the daily income of an employee is 45$ or something. so there probably isn't enough money or something to export it. Also i moved to canada because it's better to raise a family or get a job unlike brazil
I had this when i was a kid. I didn't understand much of it back then but i managed to get to the bird-man somehow. I wish i could go back in time and see myself playing it and ask myself questions about the game. I still play it now and then on my psp. =) Still a great game!
Another Wonder boy game has been released for the virtual console, I think it was the game featured in this video between 0:40-0:45. I actually thought it was the Dragon's trap for a minute but I found out it wasn't & I remembered that they've already released Dragon's curse already.
are you sure about monster world being the answer to zelda 2 though? I thought the arcade game predated it. nice review anyway, I loved the way this game started.. and the rest of it.
Wonder Boy 1 is a completely different game to the Monster World series, if anything they were trying to capture Super MArio's fame with the original Wonder Boy.
Dragon's Curse never came out here until it was released on the Virtual Console. The turbographx (called just that in the UK, no 16 part) was officially released here, they just released so few units and only through a few sellers, that noone actually noticed it had come out.
I've managed to pick up two UK Turbographx's over the years.
But they machine played US games anyway, no region lock out. That or no UK games were ever releases.
Because of Americans reminiscing about their past and constantly reminding us.
the NES was popular here too, no where near as popular as the Sega, but I can clearly remember seeing Zelda as a kid, it's gold cart and its massive price tag.
Thanks bud, yeah its one of those games that I loved as a kid, just one of my memories I had, not one bestowed upon me by Americans harking on about how great the NES was.
My friends older brother had this on the Master System and would never let us play it so we snuck in when he was out and had a go, we died ALOT but it was awesome!
Its the other way around. Westone made the game originally for Sega and then sold the game rights to Hudsonsoft, but they couldn't sell the character rights as Sega owned them.
Platformer RPGs totally nonexistant? What about Castlevania: Symphony of the night, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and other recent Castlevania titles?
Nope, it's just that there are lots of castlevania games that fit into actio RPG/platformer RPG category. And I might be a fanboy of Castlevania, I really like the whole Action/RPG thing
Actually there are quite a few, especially on the classic systems. Such as the YS series, Zelda II, Faxanadu, Magician and a few others that aren't worth mentioning lol.
Dragon View is another example, though it's not a perfect 2D platformer (more like the Streets of Rage 2D), it has platformer elements + RPG elements + kickassery elements
I think both Dragon's Curse and Monster World 3 are on the Virtual Console among others (including the first Wonder Boy & a few Adventure Island games). Man this game series' history is complex. Oh and I did watch on Revver!
Cheers! It's definitely a confusing series, especially when they start renaming other games "Adventure Island" in the series as well that have nothing to do with either game.
Awesome, Larry! I never played the Master System version, but I did play Dragon's Curse on the PC Engine/Turbo Grafx 16, and it ruled.
I had no idea the first level was the final level from the previous game! That's just like in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, where the prologue stage was the final level of Dracula X: Rondo of Blood.
Next time, you should do a review of the original Wonder Boy! (Which would go on to inspire Hudson's amazing Adventure Island series)
I don't think the ammount of subs mean anything, the three people BELOW me on the top 20 comedians list all have less subscribers, less hits and less videos than me, yet they are all partners.
