As much as the old series had its flaws it was fresh at the time. Everyone seemed to watch it. It really did feel as if the whole world was under threat, rather than just the USA.
Am enjoying the new series although it's nothing ground-breaking. I wish they'd kept a few of the icons of the original run, like the red uniforms and this version of the theme.
Dude, the old series felt darker.. More evil. The new one is alright, it's nothing new really, and aside from kewl special effects, overall I STILL prefer the original series. Tho the end wasn't that great, and the TV series ended ended without clearing up anything... meh..

@Mr77eisen .....yes the whole "final battle" mini series was almost totally the oppisite of what Ken Johnson (the creator and director) of the original two parter wanted to do (he wanted to follow up it several yrs later with the visitors in almost full control) and the visitors "enemies" eventually showing up to help earth...but NBC wanted a quick solution, action based story and Johnson left .
@audio1358 Johnson is still making efforts to bring his original vision to the big screen (not a reboot like the new series) but the same story and characters only with big screen budget effects and treatment...and probably new actors recast ...but as long as their playing the SAME characters..it should be AWESOME..what true fans wnated from the new series but didn't get at all :(.

@evilteyen The orignal plan for the script was for Martin to pilot the ship into space and he convinces Julie and the resistance to escape. The ship denoates killing the millions onbard in suspended animation. Diana escapes with Elizabeth to the fleeing fleet. And Julie and Donovan pilot their shuittle onto the one of the fleeing motherships. We're left with the idea that Julie and Donovan may end up on the home world, and wondering what Diana will do next.
This was brilliant viewing when it first came out ... everyone was watching it ... mainly because there were fewer channels and you had no choice ... but that made it something everyone talked about the next day!! We were all into it together :D
I like the theme song, it sounds so familiar, who made it? I would be surpriced if it was same composer as within the episodes wich easily could be taken for being made by John Williams. The theme with synt is what Im looking for, creator?

@audio1358 Johnson is still making efforts to bring his original vision to the big screen (not a reboot like the new series) but the same story and characters only with big screen budget effects and treatment...and probably new actors recast ...but as long as their playing the SAME characters..it should be AWESOME..what true fans wnated from the new series but didn't get at all :(.

How Brilliant!!! forgot just what my youth was about? way ahead for it's time when you think about it...the ships look just like (Independence day)....so nothing new has ever really touched the idea's of the series! and my neighbour looked like Diana...all my mates fancied her...oh yessss!! god I want to go back 30 yrs again!!!!

@evilteyen The orignal plan for the script was for Martin to pilot the ship into space and he convinces Julie and the resistance to escape. The ship denoates killing the millions onbard in suspended animation. Diana escapes with Elizabeth to the fleeing fleet. And Julie and Donovan pilot their shuittle onto the one of the fleeing motherships. We're left with the idea that Julie and Donovan may end up on the home world, and wondering what Diana will do next.

This was brilliant viewing when it first came out ... everyone was watching it ... mainly because there were fewer channels and you had no choice ... but that made it something everyone talked about the next day!! We were all into it together :D

idk, I never cared for the part where the girl grabs the keys, glows, and then stops the thing It always seemed kind of cheesy (And I don't mean like outdated effects and such) : /
I love how Diana flies off at the end, reminds me of Darth Vader at the end of A New Hope.
Loved this mini-series, better then a lot of movies imo.

But then a small group who represent the people rise up hopefully to destroy the suppressors. We might destroy ourselves or we might not and spread out into the galaxy. @CapcomXNamco914 I actually believe "Anna" to be a much more evil character than Diana. Anna is very subtle. Diana was more "in your face" with her "evil", imo. If I had to choose the lesser to face, I would rather face Diana than Anna - any old time!

3:39 is when the entire series shot itself in the foot. mixed breed kid saves the day with cheesy effect? total garbage. i remember my whole family felt totally ripped off after spending WEEKS faithfully watching this show when it originally aired.
