  • We can use normal webcams?

  • would this be good for like an animation seires?

  • If it wasn't for the spacesuit clipping through itself slightly, and the slight foot slipping, I'd say this looks like a guy dressed in a space suit dancing in a large blue room.

  • Great stuff. I'd love to see your setup. How close were your cameras to the actor?

  • Hello, could you tell me what setup you are using? Like what cameras ect? Its just im starting to get into IPI and would like to know how you got this so smooth! Also, could you maybe do a tutorial of how to set up the software?

    Cheers dude, and nice work!

  • Very nice :)

  • awesome

  • what about if you want to capture a break dancer/s would the new version keep up with speedy movement ? with perhaps 3 or 4 cameras. this would be really helpful, thanks !

  • What 3d software did you use to apply the motion to the model? or does it apply the motion in ipi?

  • @canniblefeets I think he said lightwave

  • Is this actually raw animation data or did you do tweaks on it before doing the video?

  • @Shakeno It is the raw data out of ipi. i simply imported it into Motion builder to covert it to fbx and then load it into Lightwave but remember this was done last september and ipi has become more acurate and faster since then so i can better results now than i had then

    Cheers

  • @troughty1000 Wow, it is ridiculously smooth, I actually thought it was tweaked... impressive.

I've read around it doesn't capture wrist and head rotations very well, does the newer versions have that fixed? (I can't tell very well it they're stuck or if they rotate well in this video)

  • @Shakeno

You're correct it dosent't currently capture wrists and head rotations. However head rotations are, i believe, coming soon but they are currently working on the kinect version

    Cheers

  • @troughty1000 Aah, I see. Thanks for the info.

  • why can't u animate the fingers?

  • do you NEED 4 cameras

  • @Berzerker350

Hi when i first got into IPI i only had two cameras and was able to get some good results, mostly walking or standing and gesturing

Turns and spins wouldn't really be possible without a lot of intervention but to test it you should get some decent results

    but keep it simple!

    Cheers

  • where can i get the purchased license??? is there a keygen or something?

  • @kleber1983 simply buy the software, they are a new little company and they deserve support for offering such good mocap at low price.

  • @mat967 $595 bucks is not cheap for someone who just wants to try it out and do some experimentations, I´m not a pro... And 30 days, is just not enough for me so...

  • @kleber1983 For someone who want a full mocap system, yes this IS (really) cheap. and if you just want to do some experimentations, 30 days is enough. If you need more time so badly, find a way to make the software think that this is your first instalation (google is your friend), then you buy it.

  • @kleber1983 yeah, kinda lame that you want to pirate this. There's a very flexible academic discount, too, its something like 50% cheaper.

  • How much room do you need to be able to do something like this?

  • @xcloudx01

Hi i just roughly measured my capture space for you. the 4 cameras are arranged in a square 19 feet x 12

and they are all about 6 feet off the ground this gives me an capture area of about 9 feet x 6 feet

    hope that helps

  • hi! can you use more than 4 cameras to expand the volume?

please reply back if not soon

  • @marveluv

Hi on the product page it says that the capture area for both 4 and 6 cameras is 6 x 6 metres

I think the extra cameras give better tracking quality, rather than expand the actual capture area

    Cheers

  • @troughty1000 thanks that was really usefull

  • @troughty1000 Hey do u know something about facecapture but a cheap price and a good performance

  • @bigupnico the only affordable one i know about is zign track

  • Hey, can you maybe send me the videos you recorded to see how far the webcams were recording from and the quailty, your movements and everything else? Thanks!

  • Nice. Any chance I could get the bvh file?

  • @TheFXGuy Hi sure let me know where to send it

  • Hey, one question, What about if I don't have ps eye cams, but I have 2 o 3 photographic cams which I used to capture 2 videos from different perspectives?

How do I know the height and width of the composition to bring it into ipi soft?, let's say both videos are 640x480 (2 cams), so, I know that the videos shoud be together, but what height and width shoud I use??, and, what about 3 cams??

Man I wanna do this so bad , thanks!!!

  • @kamihakai Hi Sorry for the delay in replying

you can use other cameras but you need to manually sync the footage and put them side by side. so if you have two streams 320x240 you would put them together in a frame 640x240. there is a thread in the forum about doing what you suggest you also need to calibrate the footage there are instuctions on how to do that on the ipi site as well

    Good luck!

  • Wow this is good stuff man. Did you have to clean the capture much at all or is that straight from the 4 cameras? I was thinking of doing this myself but you cant get a demo of the ps3 cams. LMAO. Anyway sir good luck and awesome.

  • @directeeccks

Hi It is pretty much how it comes out of ipi. i did take the bvh into motionbuilder to convert to fbx but in a new update they have implimented collada export yay!

I did have to correct a couple of mis-aligned poses, during the tracking but other than that it's vanilla output. You can see from the clip that i need to fix some foot slides and the arms intersect the chest but i wanted to demonstrate what the output was like with minimal intervention. do you have any web cams?

  • @troughty1000

Sweet Ty for the response. I currently only have one web cam and its pretty crappy one at that. I was just curious because I am a dancer and tech guy who loves video games and so on. I was just checking because the frame by frame editing is to much for my adhd to handle. Good to hear that its not too much clean up on the .bvh. I went to the site today and it said standard supports up to 6 cams now and the the Microsoft kenect will be on the way. Any ways cheers

  • Thanks for the replay. Rght now i just have 1 webcam, and sometimes it records with a little motion blur, is this a problem? Or can I get another webcam and record my actions, no matter the motion blur?

I know i can't do backflips of whatever, my actions would be very very simple, but I wonder, befor buying another webcam, if the motion blur could be a big problem to deal with?

    Thanks again!

  • @kamihakai yeah motionblur can be a problem

the sony eye cam is really good, relativley cheap and can record 640x480 @ 60fps which eliminates alot of motionblur. IPI does support one camera capture but is very limited. I would say you need at least two cameras to see if it is worth it for you

backflips!! lol i think all i'd get if i tried that would be mocap of me being taken off to hospital

  • Wow I'm amazed, I'm panning in working with 2 webcams for now, bit I got a question. Can I really have good results using 2 webcams such as MSI StarCam?, I woud need just the coordinates of each marker cuz I need to animate in Maya, is it possible to have a Data file? i.e. Marker 1: x:34.4 y:232.4 z: 243 ?

Thanks and congrats man! fantastic work!

  • @kamihakai The mocap system is markerless so there are no actual tracking points being recorded however the output is bvh and collada could you use that and retarget to your character in maya?

I don't know the web cams you list. IPI recommend sony playstation eye cameras which perform well. I would download the demo and try it with your cams, look through the tutorials on their site regarding calibration

I originally started with two cams it does work, just dont try anything too complex

  • Fantastic work! A friend and I are planning on doing a test with the fully functional demo version of the software this weekend. Any potential issues or problems I should be on the lookout for?

  • @Artman009 calibration is the most important thing to get right. I always do that first and solve the footage in iPi studio to make sure that is correct before going ahead and capturing motions. I assume you've watched all the tutorials on the iPi website but the software is very good and does work, just persevere good luck!!

  • The BBC weren't impressed with The Stigg's new replacement. :)

Excellent bit of motion capture there.

  • @LaughingPsycho ha ha
