I really love this series, but there are sooo many logic flaws.
So what if the bats see daylight? What horrible consequence will come of it when it was just a little runt kid?
They really think those small bats are killing small mammals?
I'm SO sick of those characters who are so jealous and evil that they would make the mistake of destroying their own home. I've seen it hundreds of times, and no sense comes from it.
I'm limited by the few amount of characters allowed in each comment, thank Youtube for that. The books are much better by far, and though some of my logic flaws I pointed out can be evident, it makes up for it by FAR and gives more reasoning behind all of it. I love the series mostly because I like the animation (which is strange), and if Goth didn't laugh as much, he'd be awesome too.
the reason the bats cannot see the sun is because of the law, because they never chose a side in the great war, however now it is mainly about power Brutus wants to keep the bats under control, which means he has to force the bats to follow the law, by breaking it the bats defied his authority so they must be dealt with, and he uses any excuse. He believes the entire flock of bats attacked the birds and owls so that is why he wants them destroyed.
Ginga Nagareboshi Gin (manga), Call Of The Wild, Balto, Okami (video game), White Fang (wolfdog), Smoke: A Wolf's Story, Princess Mononoke, Arashi No Yoru Ni, The Sight and Fell, Legend Of Lobo, Wolf Brother, Never Cry Wolf (non-fiction), The Jungle Book, Spice And Wolf, Blood And Chocolate (werewolf), few short stories from Jack London, Wild Magic series, Julie's Wolves series, Run White Wolf (I think that's what it's called), take your pick.
Forgot about Digimon. In every season, there is a good guy with a canine Digimon (usually a wolf, like Gabumon Gaomon's evolutions). The loner characters are even called "lone wolves" because of this.
.... This is like feminists complaining that there aren't enough stories with competant female protagonists .... even tho there's millions of those kinda stories. Wolves have been good guys plenty of times.
lol i love Marina's reaction when they all think Orestes broke Shade's wing...heh i think its cute how she worried about him
i wish they'd make at least Sunwing into a TV seires (Firewing was a good book but i didnt like how it ended plus I think Shade and Marina's characters are best portrayed as teenagers and they're adults in Firewing)
lol I love that part of the story where they go into the house and find a bat that can transform into human but keep his teeth and other stuff I thought that was awesome and when throbb ate that brightwing and bathsbeba is such a little b*itch but still awesome
Lol, if Bathsheba would just keep it in her head about the Giant bats and angry owls, and the accusation that isn't true then maybe she wouldn't be all "I will lead and I say we stay here!"
*Goth comes* MUAHAHAHA
Bathsheba: Oh, ruffled bat wings...*everyone dies*
Besides, I doubt she would have been able to win at a counsel meet because of the giant bats and owls on their way to Hibernaculum meaning they know where they're located. Frieda would have won at flipping a coin on that one, lol.

Moonwing? Where did that come from? I can't find any reliable information about it (it sounds like a fan-fic to me, since Kenneth Oppel said it was unlikely he would be continuing Firewing). It doesn't even say anything on his site. Wikipedia = not a reliable source.
Seems rather weird that Moonwing is being written since Kenneth Oppel said he wasn't intending to write another Silverwing book (unless this book is independant from Silverwing, like Darkwing) a month or so ago when Darkwing was coming out. Wikipedia is notorious for invalid info, especially if it gets fans hyped up. Some sources I've seen have Moonwing as a fanfic. Might be good to see if a more reliable source comes up, like a news article or something on Oppel's site.
Moonwing might be a sequel to Darkwing, relating the events of the great war that led to the Bats being banished to the night. Silverwing would then be taken as the next stage of the story. I guess I'm speculating, but back in 2003, I got an email from Kenneth Oppel and I think he mentioned something like that.
I once wrote to Kenneth Oppel asking if he'd ever continue the series, and he said he actually might because so many fans were saddened by how Firewing ended.
Just remember, even if he initially said he wasn't writing anymore Silverwing books, plans change. Disney said they were ending Pirates after At World's End, but now we've got a 4th one coming out in a year or two.
Well, many book series change main characters quite often, the Redwall series being a prime example, with a new one each book. The main character could easily switch to Griffin, with him being such an important character in Firewing. Also, everyone knows that occasionaly well dead book/movie characters can end up comming back to life in some outlandish way, and Shade could be one of them. So, no it won't be impossible to extend the series further, and quite frankly, I hope it does get extended.
Nafertus, I understand but Silverwing is only a trilogy meaning only three books per series. Shade would have no way of coming back unless he cruelly took the life of another bat by force in the underworld. Shade could never do that! Besides, didn't you read the end? He was happy. His son was alive, and his journey was finally over. Griffin's and Luna's has just begun, but there is no point in to telling their lives because Goth is back into the jungle & there are no more former enemies 2 fight.
My reply is late, but I feel I should clarify that all I meant was that it would be possible for the series to continue, even without Shade. Would it not be possible for another character like Griffin to become the Protagonist? I have read those books countless times, and I understand that Shade is happy, but you know how restless he is. How could anyone be happy just watching eternally?
My point was only this, it would be possible to continue the series if Oppel were so inclined.
Ahem... Griffin was ALREADY the Protagonist. Didn't you pay attention to Firewing? What do you mean Shade is Restless? Sure he is headstrong and certainly curious. But the fact that Marina, his beloved mate is once again with their son, Griffin, he can "rest" peacefully. He knows to go to the Tree if he gets sucked back down. And someone hasn't been a worrywuss father yet. Shade would rather watch and make sure his family was happy and safe. If you were a dad, wouldn't you? A loving family.
The book kind of switched a good deal between Shade and Griffin and I sure wouldn't call Shade a secondary character in Firewing. It essentially was a multiple protagonist story. What I meant was that perhaps Griffin could be the SOLE protagonist.
My only point with the other deal was that an eternity is a long time, to put it simply, and I doubt anyone could be content with anything forever. No matter how nice it is.
What do you mean? Haven't you heard how Christians and Catholics and what ever else would love to be in Heaven when they die? Such a nice place..never die, never hungry, never ill sort of thing(I'm not one of those believers). Eternity is a long time, but depends on what it is to spend for that. Happiness is well prefered over grief and that is what counts. Shade was happy, and he probably made his last journey to the tree. Spirits "rest" better for eternity if they are happy, not angry, sad, lost
I am not a follower of those beliefs, which is probably why I cannot fathom them. You make good points, but personally, I would never want such an unbalanced fate. Happiness is only happy to me, if there are an equal amount of other emotions to compare it to. Things are just disturbing and strange to me, if they are as unbalanced as that.
Perhaps your right, maybe Shade could rest with that, but I never could.
The tunnel probably took thousands of years to get it where it is now. And Zotz feels that Goth will possibly find another chance for him to rise, but not for at least thousands of years to do so. To finish the tunnel, hundreds more years must be taken. He's probably not even a 1/3 of the way through. It's not easy digging tunnels with a huge rock in your mouth to use to chip away at it.
True, who knows how deep the underworld lies? You're right, t'would certainly take a long time, which would be why I said past the original characters.
Goth certainly could set things in motion again for Zotz to rise, teaching, planning, but in all reality he wouldn't live more than twenty or thirty years more. So it would all rely on the competence of the future generations. They could just as easily screw things up as the past generations did, eh?
An unbalanced fate? What do you mean? That happens all the time. One makes a mistake but the other dies because of it. But to come to understanding of why it happened and so on is better than nothing. If you think that's unfair well you question Life. Everything happens for a reason. Shade died because he gave his life to his son. Shade's fate was chosen. Whereas in accidents, a small family dies due to the other person's recklessness or fault. Happens to help that person understand the mistake
What I mean is that if all you experience is happiness, without anything else like sadness, anger, or any of the other emotions, you'd lose your point of reference, and therefor happiness would become just another "thing" you're used to experiencing. It wouldn't be special any more. It's just rather hard to explain in words.
But we both speak of pure, speculative opinion. Neither one of us can really say for certain what is what, now can we?
Well in death there would still be that sadness because of your memories of your family and past journeys. Times that were fun, times that were awful, times that were just ordinary before the last thing that changed. Anger will be there too because Goth got away. Isn't that enough to stand "death?" Because you thought the dead have no feelings but "happiness."
I suppose your right, I wasn't thinking it through enough. For whatever reason my brain was super-imposing more modern religious what-not where all but happiness is forgotten, etc, etc.
T'was a most interesting and enlightening conversation, I did enjoy it =)
And Shade was more secondary character. He didn't get even half of the book, let alone, probably like 50 pages worth by himself. Griffin was the bat who was mostly focused on in the book. Besides, what would the next book be about? No one wants to know that all Griffin did was play owl games with Luna and ate caterpillars. That's a boring plot. It needs more. Besides, Goth is back where he belongs, he's causing no trouble. Silverwing was a trilogy anyway, the books say so and so would Kenneth.
Well, Kenneth Oppel has already said he'd never write another one to continue the trilogy, so this was a rather pointless debate in the first place. All I was saying that if for whatever reason he changed his mind, I'm sure he could figure something out.
I can actually think of a pretty interesting plot far in the future, past all the original characters, when Camazotz finishes chiseling his tunnel up from the underworld....
ARGH! Why can't there be any original soundtrach cds D: ???
