  • he sounds like my aunt sharon, and she is fucking mental on pills. the similarities are uncanny

  • He's such a beautiful person. ;D

  • He just covered "Seems So Long Ago, Nancy" to celebrate Leonard Cohen's new album Old Ideas. Very talented guy!

  • he had long hair and i thought he was a woman

  • I don't understand why he's getting so much hate here for being authentic. A lot of commenters here suck. Go back and play top 40 music if you can only handle musicians that are shallow and artificial. You would think Deerhunter fans would know better, but I guess not everyone here is a fan.

  • i love it...his angst will fuel for some awesome shit. let the "band" present their real brand and fuck "keeping people happy." what he's going through is very common in the creative process especially if consumed by the masses. get deerhunter back to some punk/garage indie ambient shit especially ones most wont understand!

  • I saw them live I'm pretty sure, not long after this interview in Melbourne. They were fantastic, and at the end of the show they had a huge noise fest, with tones of reverb and loops, and Brad was hitting a drum and Lockett started scratching the guitar with a bottle. Wow I just wanted to be up there. They looked like they had fun, I definitely did, but I hope they did :(. They were amongst fans, who liked a lot of their music (including their older stuff) so hopefully they felt more comfortab

  • Bradford's fucking awesome. He's got so much charisma. He reminds me of a kid I know.

  • It's so interesting having seen Deerhunter at the Laneway festival couple days before this. They played heaps off the new album, and of course everyone went nuts for Helicopter. Then for the last fifteen minutes they went nuts with loops and feedback and delay pedals and crazy drumming. It was fucking amazing. But my best friend (and most of the audience) were really taken aback by it. It was so obvious that they didn't want to be there. But they still played the best fucking show I've ever seen

  • brad, your music makes me happy :)

  • Reading some of the comments here, I can tell that 99% of you have never picked up an instrument in your life.

  • I started making music a little over a year ago and I can relate to what he is feeling here. Playing the same shit over and over gets tiresome. Sometimes you just want to fuck around, but at the same time you feel this obligation to please people who spent money to come see you play the songs from your record.

  • @agekm08 your mom is ugly

  • someone get this man some cheese with his whine.

  • something about him is not very likeable. For some reason i dont find people in bands dangerous or revolutionary anymore. Despite how different he is, everybody says the same thing.

  • I saw them in Dublin a couple of months after this. They played for ages, Bradford was really pumped and upbeat and he kept willing the other band members to continue playing.

  • hes just triping face

  • I was kind of stunned watching this interview. But I think what I connect with the most is the fact that he mentions that he wants to be confused with what he creates. I think that's when he thrives the most as a musician, and it has to be really weird for people hearing that, because no one ever mentions that they WANT to be confused.

  • a lot of judgmental people around here...

  • bradford doesn't look like a healthy person

  • @llamasarus1 That's because he's had a life threatening disorder his whole life. Give him a break.

  • @lala90210 ya. i know. hopefully that disorder doesn't kill him.

  • Comment removed

  • @llamasarus1 He has marfans disease :(

  • @system132guitar ya i know. im just stating the obvious

  • @llamasarus1 Cox was born with the genetic called disorder Marfan syndrome. it effects the way he looks.

  • This dude's got Aspergers for sure.

  • Comment removed

  • @istealhotelsoap @istealhotelsoap I doubt that... They're seldomly that reflective of their own actions, and wanting to push yourself into unknown territories is not a trait that goes along with aspergers at all. He's just peculiar looking, and sort of eccentric... It does'nt have to be a condition.

  • @istealhotelsoap don't be an ass. He's got marfan syndrome so he looks weird and hes probably high, but hes not retarded.

  • @Theyounggiants113 having aspergers doesn't mean that someone is "retarded", you're kinda being a hypocrite when you're telling someone to stop being an ass..

  • why can't anyone have their own opinion any more?

  • bjork's "vespertine" gave me a musical erection

  • caught him on a bad day.

  • I just see a guy who's frustrated, pissed-off, and not thinking before he speaks. Who here has never done that?

Oh, yeah - the disclaimer: I'm by no stretch a fan for everything BS says and does. But,in this case, it seems to me he was just saying what he felt at the time. BFD...

  • @gyroscopeboy ahhh two things. Locket remained onstage as well and i didn't hear anybody complaining it. gig of the year.

  • Hmm a wine-tasting festival. Sounds awesome. Lol.

  • yeah whats the problem about using loop machines in general . I do the same when I play live (even with band ), sometimes there´s an asshole in the show kind of pseudo-wise-guy-that-thinks-loops-suck- that it isnt original and its against rock-nroll spirit. Fuck you mr.pseudo-i-know everything. Go bradford

  • I like Deerhunter, but Bradford Cox can be a whiny bitch sometimes.

  • @vacopolycangus I don't see what's wrong with him being honest with himself and his insecurities. He's more relatable and likeable than most public figures, who project having perfect lives. If only more celebrities were brave enough to show the world their true selves; their true thoughts, their problems. He shouldn't have to pretend things are perfect, just so you can hear some nice, fluffy interview, when they're not

  • WHAT A JOKE # INDIEWHINING

  • PLEASE QUIT THEN LOL. #INDIEWHINING

  • really hope he can find a way to reverse his attitude about his productions. it's pretty sad. he's really talented and hates what he's doing it seems... hopefully he can ride on the money from his tours for a while so he can take a break, I couldn't imagine ever doing live shows in a chain, not while making experimental sorts of music. that sort of lifestyle can really restrict creativity.

  • I fucking love Bradford Cox

  • he is a fucking pretentious retard

  • @jpdt007 no he isn't. go and listen to your bon jovi records you joy boy.

  • @HotGeneration100 lol I don't listen to bon jovi you hipster bitch

  • @HotGeneration100 Go suck the dick of the pitchfork owner you hipster bitch so you can get a "10" at being a fucking dick sucking pretentious intellectual wannabe

  • @jpdt007 nice one.

  • @HotGeneration100 Thanks...I try

  • i'm not a huge deerhunter fan but this interview makes me want to go back and re-listen to their music again.

  • The interviewer reminds me of Leo from Twin Peaks.

  • This is like what happened to Kurt Cobain

  • Im glad he'd rather do something that excites him than settling for what other people want. Im a huge fan of noise music and it's exciting to see someone do something exciting and fresh, but still make it good. I hope he doesn't care about what his audiences think. Make music for you Bradford, hope you find a way to sort it out

  • weird guy. love him.

  • He doesn't want to be willfully weird yet he wants to make music that confuses him? Another typical hipster asshole that makes ridiculously grand statements without thinking about them.

  • It's either car crash douchebaggery or a genuine suicide/overdose risk. Can't quite tell.

  • typical whiny hipster

if you cant deal with it dont do it, crowds arent there for you, youre there for them.

  • what a biiiiiiitch. i hate this guy.

  • @gyroscopeboy shit, is there footage of this? what happened?

  • @gyroscopeboy I ain't even mad

  • Im pretty sure the majority of people who went to the show went there to be entertained, not to figure out an appreciation of white noise.

  • @RacismIsSchism no thanks bro, I came early to hear their album music to be played. Maybe if that shit was actually on the album so I knew was crap to expect in the show then that would be appreciated. Dude seriously stop trying to pass this pseudo-intellectual bullcrap off as you being able to 'understand' someone else's trance, you're just embarrassing yourself.

  • @GalenAus I can't really embarrass myself in front of a virtual audience dumshit. No one here even knows my real name, 2nd of all, you obviously haven't heard of their album Cryptograms. There's "white shit noise" throughout. You're probably a newbie only familiar with "Helicopter" huh? Look up their live videos, I understand where you're coming from, but this is the type of thing they do. if you actually knew more about them you probably wouldn't have gone in the first place.

    Idiot

  • @RacismIsSchism rofl, no actually i have listened to more than just helicopter (OH NO ARE YOU IMPLYING THAT DEERHUNTER HAS A SONG THAT ISN'T WHITE NOISE?! OH SHIT YOU JUST DID!)

I have seen many of their live videos but unfortunately I didn't have the patience to go looking for a video with no musical quality because it probably had 200 views because it's so shit.

But seriously, not every song on cryptograms is fuzzy bullshit, and it doesn't go for half an hour straight so your point is invalid.

  • @GalenAus No shit. Of course not all their songs are white noise, and btw it's called ambient music. I was just using that term because you probably wouldn't have know what I'm referring to, but do you agree that you wouldn't have been disappointed if you would have known how they operate live prior? And the material that largely comprises Cryptograms is comparable to their live sound, therefore proving my premise valid. Stick to what you know, it seems like Deerhunter live just isn't for you

  • @RacismIsSchism um no you derper, I wasn't complaining about any part of their set except for the shit at the very end.

I fail to see 30 minutes of 'ambient music' in any of deerhunter's album so yeah...

  • @GalenAus alright, so deerhunter live just isn't for you, it seems as if we've reached a conclusion! do you not agree?

  • @RacismIsSchism deerhunter's album songs live are for me.

    just not retarded noise.

  • @GalenAus well that retarded noise is part o fdeerhunter live, so therefore a full deerhunter concert just isn't for you, sorry

  • music: "an artistic form of auditory communication incorporating instrumental or vocal tones in a structured and continuous manner" that shit was continuous but not structured.

You really cant be pretentious enough to call it music when it was a loop of sounds that hardly varied at all like music should.

As a matter of fact I could really leave, I was in the second row and it's kind of hard to leave when you are that far up the front and surrounded by hipsters.

  • @GalenAus maybe next time you shouldn't be in the second row then, save that space for people who can appreciate senseless non rhythmic noise

  • Someone seems please with himself. His attitude would probably be a little easier to swallow if it didn't feel like I was listening to some kid cry about how hard high school is now that he's having a fight with his best friend.

But for what it's worth, I LOVE Deerhunter. The fact that Bradford Cox is a massive tosser doesn't take anything away from that. A song like Desire Lines doesn't exactly give you the power to be a shithead, but if comes fucking close.

  • Hipsters killed Deerhunter.

  • This guy is a fuckwit

  • deerhunter can play whatever they want as long as it means something to them, stop complaining that they're just making noise. if u don't like it or get it, you have the option of not listening and to leave their show.

  • @wildeyestheband I second that,

To everybody complaining about the sonic experimentation, next time deerhunter's playing a show, do yourself a favor and stay at home. If you want to hear the songs exactly as they appear on the record, pick up your walkman instead. Deerhunter is not a pop band, you're not going to get the exact same thing every night, it's a rock show, not a justin bieber show.

Some people call it senseless noise, I call it music

  • @gyroscopeboy if he's going to spend an extra half hour on stage, maybe make some actual music?

  • I felt sorry for the doctor having to put up with that douchebag

  • "i have an obligation to make the audience happy"

well that's what we are paying you for, to play songs that we oh so enjoy

not paying you to fuck around with a few pedals and amps, hell even improvise on your guitar but don't just make senseless noise.

  • @gyroscopeboy he can go on a sonic trip in his own time, I went to that concert to hear SONGS not what was essentially white noise.

  • Comment removed

  • pretentious douchebag

  • Dick.....

  • Wow. That was just... wow. After listening to that pretentious twat I hope I never hear another deerhunter song ever again...
