  • I love the fact that the actions that Sonic does on the screen match what you're saying, lol

  • I only played the WiiWare version. Did they ever release a patch for the PSN and Xbox Live versions to fix this problem? If not, then that really sucks.

  • the first thing you did. You lose momentum when you roll. Also why are tighter controls a bad thing?

  • This is a legitimate complain. Sega is the publisher. They have a huge quality assurance department who are supposed to find these things. But I know whether they find it or not they have to have the programmers in a separate office fix it. Whether they game passes certain standards of how Sonic should run, or how physics should work is still up to the producer of this particular game. Too bad, yea.

  • At least, Sonic Advance 1, 2 and 3 were good!

This was supposed to have nice physics due to the technology and…ah, is useless trying to make you see this "game" is not worth anything.

  • This shows everything wrong with modern games. Game from many years ago, you jump? It jumps. Modern game, you jump? It stops jumping. What is wrong with these programmers and designers?!

  • Where is the logic and physics in the concept of a hedgehog moving at the speed of sound? You can't really complain about logic, physics, etc. when you're playing Sonic.

  • @TheNogre But when the classic games pulled off momentum physics and Sonic 4 is supposed to be a continuation of the classic games, then yes, we can complain when there is no momentum.

  • @TheNogre True, but have you played this game? The lack of inertia just feels so damn wrong to me. I found it fun in all other respects but this drove me mad. There's a difference between playing a little loosely with the laws of physics (which all games do) and throwing them out the window entirely.

  • @riomhadoir I agree that the physics were pretty wonky, but it wasn't game breaking.

  • The Classic Sonic stages in Sonic Generations was an apology for this.

  • I have to agree. Sonic 4's physics is a major problem compared to Sonic 2's physics.

  • sega:fuck logic

  • THE SONIC 2 PITS BACK!!!

  • You sound like a black mariotehplumber...

  • Hopefully they'll use generation's classic physics in episode 2, that was spot on.

  • I agree with you 100% The physics suck. This game should not even be called a sonic game if it is not made by Sega/Sonic Team. Sega should never let everyone else do this if they can't do it right. Nintendo has made that mistake before. "WORST ZELDA GAME EVER!!!" Please let's not have one of those again.

  • Does it count is Sonic Team was a co-developer?

  • @SovereignTalon Capcom made three great Zelda games and Dimps have made great Sonic games (the Advance series). The games are not sacred and should be given to anyone who can actually make decent games out of them.

  • I think it's Dimps not SEGA who made Sonic 4...

  • @AvatarFanBoy98 O RLY?

  • @AvatarFanBoy98 Sega publishes, Dimps develops. Sega still oversees every Sonic game's development.

  • Shit game

  • 1:17

"Where is the momentum in this game?"

Sonic: I'M LOOKIN AT NOT SEEIN ANY

  • Yes the physics are different, because it's a different game. Also at 00:20, that was never going to wrok. Have you heard of the conservation of energy?

  • @Gilgabotnik

Sonic 1-3 were different games, but they had the same physics.

00:20 It USED to work. The law of conservation of energy didn't matter before, why should it have to now?

  • @Gilgabotnik go play Sonic 1 Scrap Brain Zone. Then we'll talk

  • Sega didn't develop Sonic 4. Dimps did. Sega just licensed it.

  • @silentzorah it was a co-development between sonic team and dimps

  • It was a BRISK JOG.

  • sonic 4 isn't a bad game, but it just shouldn't be called sonic 4. the old school sonic games were physics-based platformers which had original level designs and a sense of speed. sonic 4 has none of this. the camera is also too zoomed in, so you can't see what's coming until it's too late, which is a big problem because the game has bottomless pits everywhere. and don't get me started on the amount of lives you can obtain just by completing a certain level...

  • @TheCyberShinobi "If they could make it right in sonic 1 back in 1991, why the fuck couldn't they do the same to the newer one."

because they know that they have an army of fanboys and fangirls who will buy it regardless of how good or bad it is. I mean, when people actually like sonic 06, I can't respect that. anyone who paid for that half finished POS was ripped off.

  • O_O

  • This game clearly deserves the title Sonic 4, it was a great game. There's something wrong with you if all you can do is nitpick some small physics problems that don't really matter!

You people clearly haven't played this game properly. I've played all the classic Sonic games and loved them, but this game was a true sequel... what I've been waiting for after all these years.

Only problem I had was the lack of a PC release. I had to use a Wii emulator (also bought it on wii so that is legal).

  • @MaggotsInDisguise I didn't like it that much. it was okay, but it was really just poor man's sonic 1 rather than a new game, if you know what I mean? rehashed versions of sonic 1 levels with inferior design.

  • @MaggotsInDisguise plus, the game gives you so many 1-ups that it completely destroys any challenge the game may have had

  • @MaggotsInDisguise It COULD have been great. But they fucked up in the most important area. They completely threw momentum and inertia out the fucking window. Those two laws are ABSOLUTELY necessary in a Sonic game. Ever try speed-running a Sonic game? You can't just hold right the entire time. You have to be able to skid and use the physics to your advantage.

  • @MaggotsInDisguise the WHOLE SERIES is based on physics.

  • @Scarredgraymouse Well all the good sonic games require momentum to get through the levels. Sonic 2006 proved to be a bad game as you could just walk up a loop and stand upside down on it... even the Sonic Adventure games had momentum based level features (but much less).

  • If it was called Sonic arcade or something then it wouldnt bother me, but calling it Sonic 4 is a friking insult to the classic Megadrive games.

  • @Johfunu totally agree, they should call this Sonic Advance 4...

  • the physics ruined this game for me. it doesnt deserve the title 'sonic 4'

  • This channel should be called DAMNLAGrants

  • I knew they fucked uo sonic 4 physics;

And fanboys still say it's a good game

    Bullfucking shit!!!!

  • they shulda made it "megadrive style" then use the emulators the 360 used to play sonic 1 2 and 3.

atleast then it would have worked

  • I really can't stand the physics in this game! SEGA have completely ruined it... They should have kept them the same as Sonic 3 + Knuckles in my honest opinion... In fact, adding in the lock-on attack from Sonic Adventure is about the only good thing they have done! I probably shouldn't talk mods, but the physics from "Sonic Megamix 4.0" is how it should have been in this game! ...So this is it then SEGA? The game that we've all been waiting over a decade and a half for is a complete epic fail!

  • Sorry SEGA , but I don't even count this as a sonic game. It just doesn't deserve that title.

  • Why don't you just not let go of the control stick? It gets rid of this problem your talking about.

  • are they still making this shitty game? I havn't heard anything on it lately so hopefully its canned. it would bring justice to the fact extreme was canned also.

  • @raveakidd i cant help but to agree with you there rave.

  • @raveakidd It's a great game you idiot!

  • @pkstarstorm1up another stupid fag that can't admit that this game is a total FAIL.

    Sonic Colours is waay better.

  • @eddylugia I think the real fag is someone can't respect the fact that someone else has a different opinion then them. Oh and I also agree that Sonic Colors is way better but then again almost all of the 3d Sonic games are better then the 2d Sonic games with the exception of 3d Blast, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Secret Rings.

  • @pkstarstorm1up waitwaitwait...if you say they're better than Sonic 1 and 2 ok, I agree, but Sonic 3&K is the best sonic game ever made (and my first game was Heroes, I'm not an oldskool fan). I think that 3d and 2d games are both good (3d good games were Adventure 1 and 2 and Colours, the others suck) But people that this crap is acceptable is just dumb. The momentum was really important for the hardcore gamers, and if they could have great physics 20 years ago, why can't they have them now?

  • @eddylugia That's just an opinion that Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the best Sonic game ever made. It is generally agreed that Sonic Adventure is the Best Sonic game ever made. and no Sonic Heroes, Sonic 06, and Sonic Unleashed (360) do not suck. and if the players would just not let go of the darn control stick then there wouldn't be any momentum issues. But no the old school Sonic fans are just to spoiled and picky. Oh and the physics in the old games really aren't that great either.

  • @pkstarstorm1up if you think that Sonic 06 is good, you're really crazy, this is being a fag.

Unleashed isn't a real Sonic game: where are PLATFORM SECTIONS? I didn't say that Heroes sucks, I love it.

Anyway the Adventure were great but they weren't like Sonic 3&K. Sonic Adventure has the crappy Big gameplay, and the Knuckles/Rouge gameplay is annoying in Sonix Adventure 2. And how you can say the old games hadn't great physics? In Sonic 4 suck, try inreal life to stay at the middle of a loop...

  • He is sooooo slow in this game, Sonic generations looks soooooo good though

  • SEGA ruined a new good looking game.

    S holes.

  • Sega is lazy... they are being equally lazy in the 3ds version of Sonic Generations...

However, it does look like they are trying really hard for the ps3/ 360 version.

  • Sonic 4 is a broken bad game.

  • "I got tha same expression as sonic right now, wtf sega"

I busted out laughing at that part. So true, Sega fucked this game up royally.

  • @GankstaNip:

    No they didn't.

  • @DinerSals Oh yeah, they did and they know it.

  • @GankstaNip:

Which is why they're still making it.

    You fucking dumb ass.

  • Comment removed

  • @DinerSals Nice logic turd, you made absolutely no sense. Congratulations.

  • @GankstaNip:

Or maybe you don't know how to read.

    Dumb ass.

  • @DinerSals You're second mistake was not realizing you made that mistake, and instead acted like the little whiny bitch you are now. I hope you're a troll, but you might actually be serious, so I hope you're under 13. I know that I am acting immature myself, by calling you a stupid fuck bro, but it's really hard. How can anybody seriously hear "look at how bad Sonic 4 physics is compared to Sonic 2" and seriously think "oh no he wants Sonic 2 again" Seriously, how is that fucking possible?!?

  • @DinerSals Cool troll bro, but it needs improvement. You are still a shit tier troll, it lacks refinement and wit.

  • @DinerSals No DinerSals, you are the dumbfuck. So I don't understand why you are insulting yourself when you just showed how fucking stupid you are. Here's your first mistake, you made the false accusation that when he compared Sonic 4 flawed physics engine to Sonic 2 engine, he wanted a game like Sonic 2. Anyone who is not a dumbfuck would understand that the physics on the Genesis were very good, and it was one of the factors that made Sonic 1 not a mediocre platformer, but one that stands out

  • @janesaysso:

    1) lol I love how you go WAHH JUST UP IDIOT and how you imply that they can't make their own engine, and Sonic 1's the only 2D Sonic platformer. Right.

  • @DinerSals Third, if you don't understand why having decent physics is extremely important to a game playablity, and you don't understand why people are miffed that a game called SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 4 which was intended to capture the RETRO GAMEPLAY OF THE GENESIS SONIC GAME, lacks them and you wonder why people are making comparisons to the very games it's based off, then you are the one who is the idiot. Imagine if Megaman 9 had these flaws, fortunately Capcom put effort into that game.

  • @janesaysso:

"Imagine if Megaman 9 had these flaws, fortunately Capcom put effort into that game."

Despite it being a game SOLELY BASED ON BEING THE NES GAMES, unlike Sonic 4, WHICH IS JUST TRYING TO BE 2D.

  • @janesaysso:

And I notice how you get mad at me for saying that a person wants Sonic 4 to be Sonic 4, and then you go crazy and derail your own comment.

Yeah, you proved to me he doesn't want Sonic 2.

Now you've shown me you think Sonic 4 is suppose to be an exact fucking copy of Sonic 1. In other words, you want Sonic 1 again.

    Good job, nut.

  • For that all stupids that are saying that: "Sonic 4 is a different game, they don't have to copy". You are DUMBS. Please first of all, we dont wanna SEGA to copy old games, we only want SEGA to make a decent GAMEPLAY (loof for this word in a dictionary). The Sonic 4 gameplay sucks because it's annoying and doesnt have something that a game like this nees: INERTIA. If you dont know anything about videogames and gameplay shut the f*ck up.

  • I haven't even played Sonic 4, because of the crap I've been hearing about it. This video was very nice though, I'm an old school sonic fan, and after years of crap the sega team keeps spewing out, I almost wish the franchise died at sonic 3 to save its name :(

nice vid though I agree 110% oh and you sound like the Scout from Team fotress 2 :D

  • "Then compare it to Sonic 2."

And here's the problem with you dumb asses stuck in the 90s.

    IT. ISN'T. SONIC 2.

AND IT ISN'T GOING TO BE.

  • @DinerSals That's the sad thing: Sonic 2 got the physics right, but the new game didn't.

  • @RSRaven90:

No, stupid shit, Sonic 2 is an entirely different thing.

You dumb asses just think "old school" means "copy the exact fucking game".

  • @DinerSals

And people like you think slapping a "4" at the the end of "Sonic the Hedgehog" means it's a worthy addition to the ones before it.

When you market a game as being a return to the classics, people expect it to play along the lines of said classics, not to be a rush job with cosmetics slightly resembling the designs of the older games.

You're right, Sonic 2 is different. And it's those differences that make anybody who has any real knowledge on Sonic realize that Sonic 4 sucks.

  • @SmashBroD:

    lol, right, dumb ass.

People like you are the reason Sonic is apparently bad. Dumb shits like you want the exact same fucking game from the 1990s, but then when they actually do that, it's fucking bad.

Fandumb asses like you make me wanna bitch slap your parents.

  • @DinerSals Nobody is stupid enough to ask for Sonic 2 again.

"I want a game that doesn't fucking suck" is not the same as "give me sonic 2 again"

  • 2:41 lol

  • This is good game but physics....

  • the game is ok.....the character just feels heavy.....hard to explain.

  • The game itself sucks.

  • Oh no I have to hold forward to make Sonic keep moving forward.

  • @awwsnapson It's pretty fucking akward though. It's like driving a car in a game and if you left go of the gas it stops like hitting a brickwall.

  • hell yeah you got that right

  • 106 lives? o_0 wow.

  • And the bugs in Sonic 2 makes me cry. Is a bad game then? no.

  • Except the glitches here are instantly visible and easy to do.

You're unfairly changing the context so you make this guy look bad.

  • @sonicfeet I'm being fair. Everything has a good side and a bad side.

  • @SpartanUnDead Bugs in Sonic 2? I never came across one single bug and I've played that game a lot.

  • @SuperAwesomeTiago How lucky are you.

  • I hope Sega just learned not to trust their games to other people.

  • I do believe that you have to actually hold down the button.

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

Well, go complain to DIMPS, cuz for some reason, fans like you aren't used to doing more than holding down or right. Idk why.

  • OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL. LOOK AT THAT. OH MY GOD.

  • nice video makes sense.

  • It's not SEGA's fault, Dimps made the game, while SEGA was making Sonic Colors, a GOOD game.

  • @evantron3000 agree

  • Sega used to be the best, but right now they are bloody useless.

  • @csaoxcs Yuji left..

  • @csaoxcs agreed man i totally agree

  • Sega sucks now

  • do dat spindash

  • Comment removed

  • I call it Dimps Physics.

It's in Sonic Colors DS as well to an extent, but it's nowhere near as horrible.

  • i dont like how sonic 4 has no momentum.. complained the same way u are explaining before ur vid... HUGE sonic fan... played the demo, didnt purchase game..

SEGA: why not use the same original SONIC sprites, but HD it, and create sonic 4? with same sonic CONTROL!!!!!!!!

  • Lol @2:07

    What The F*ck Sega?

    Sonic: Blah, Blah, Blah

  • Comment removed

  • Sonic 4 can't hold a candle to the original Sonic 2D version. I wish i'd never spent my 1200 microsoft points on this game Lijke others have said the phyics on this game is choppy and at times makes no sense unlike the original Sonics where the phyics were smooth and made sense. Instead of it being a sequel it's nothing more then a rehash of the orignal Sonics taking the bet stages and bosses from them. they should have called it the Best Of Sonic instead of Sonic 4

  • It's simple, they took momentum away. By not pressing a button, the player is clearly saying "hey game, you know Newton's 1st Law? yeah, I want that right now, I'd like momentum to take me away" but Sonic just stops instead. SEGA has forgotten that to stop is to decelerate which means you must apply a force(press a button) and to keep going(Newton's 1st Law) you just let go since you've already got momentum built up(don't press anything). Derrrr!

  • At 1:18 SOnic makes a facepalm!

  • I got stuck here but figured it out quickly.

Controls feel awful, I bought the game like, half an hour ago. No desire to play it again. Physics are totally fucked up, the level design is flat out terrible, it's awful.

  • I want my money back. All the people who think Sonic 4 is "fun" are obviously braindead.

  • I just bought Sonic 4 and beat it within 3 hours. And I was yawning and bored. And whoever was in charge of this project must have down syndrome. Sega has ruined Sonic. Sonic used to be the shit, now he is shit...

  • I had the same reaction to that one half pipe in casino street.

  • Learn me how to program, and we have a great sonic game ;D

  • Dude it's just a video game. The laws of physics in Sonic 4 don't have to be similar to the laws of physics in real life. Why? Because it's a video game. Just as long as the game is fun thats what matters.

  • @Nin10Guy SEGA promised that Sonic 4 would implement everything we loved about the old Sonic games. So why haven't they?

I'm sorry, but you can't suddenly change the rules and expect people to like it.

  • @jimmyjimbo72 Okay so there were a few small changes in Sonic 4 that were different from the original old school sonic games big deal. New Super Mario Bros. had different physics compared to the classic Mario games and people loved it. I think Sonic 4 is about 90% accurate to the old Sonic games even though the programing is slightly different. The game made me remember the great memoryies had with the classic sonic games and I loved Sonic 4. How does changing the physics make the game suck?

  • @Nin10Guy dude when you have a system where you can lose all energy and fall straight down after you get shot out of a cannon it ruins the game. in the old games when and in real life when you get shot out of a cannon or jump its supposed to make an arc. but ins onic 4 it makes a half circle and that makes no fucking sense and you fall straight down and die sometimes because of it.

  • @ihmen The laws of physics in this game is nothing compared to the laws of physics in games like Action52 for the NES. But look on the bright side, at least Sonic 4 is playable unlike Sonic 2006 on the Xbox 360 or PS3.

  • @ihmen Don't let go of the D-pad then. When your trying to clear something like a pit, it's kind of common sense not to anyway. Even in Sonic 2 with the slightly better physics its common sense not to do that. Nobody ever did that kind of stuff in Mario or Mega Man or any other run of the mill platform.

The physics in Sonic 4 maybe a bit different from the others, but it in no way shape or form does it "ruin the game." It's still fun to play, and thats all one should expect.

  • @RickyRay102 our brains are programmed to work with things like the law of conservation of momentum. if you are dealing with some alien physics system that isnt even in this universe then its going to ruin the experience. the old sonic games actually followed the laws of physics, like gravity, momentum, etc. you shouldnt have to "hold on the D pad" just to fly through the air. thats like saying a motocross driver should hold down on the gas while hes flying through the air so he clears the gap.

  • @ihmen Again, I have to stress, common sense says to not let go of the D-pad when you want to advance forward or go over a pit. That's just a general rule of video games.

You're talking to a guy who used to rent Sonic 3 frequently as a kid. I remember the physics perfectly. And to this day when ever I play it, I never rely on them that much to where I just let go in mid air.. And I can safely say that Sonic 4's slight differences do not in any way shape or form make the game hard to play.

  • @RickyRay102 yeah but the problem with sonic 4 is that when you let go of the D pad in mid air he immediately stops and falls straight down. this did not happen in sonic 3 and it doesnt happen in real physics either. you probably let go of the D pad more than you notice when you're jumping or flying through the air in sonic 3.

and you're talking to a guy who played the old sonic games for literally a decade. that was the only game i owned as a kid. and sonic 4 is nothing like it.

  • @ihmen I'm in the same boat. Sonic 1-3 some of the only games I had, and they were the only ones I played. And I played them A LOT. My dad even bought and read me the comics. Fast forward to present day: I didn't like the graphics when I first saw it (still don't actually), but from the trailers it seemed like the game was really a return to it's roots (they should have went the Megaman 9 route). I was happy, but not that happy. Played the demo, and knew right away it wasn't worth $15.

  • He's right. We shouldn't be criticizing how realistic the physics are--

we should be criticizing how FUNCTIONAL the physics are-- and so far, they don't appear to be (we shouldn't have to "get used to" anything related to the physics when we play a video game).

  • When you jump, imagine Sonic is the block from Adventure(Atari 2600), mixed with gravity. Yep.

  • about a million other guys beat ya to the punch at pointing this out

  • @hypVideo This was being made for the site's Sonic 4 review. Obviously other people have done it, but we wanted to have our OWN video content.

  • @GenkiJ4M oh ... stupid me
