  • I was born and raised till i was 12 in saipan... I moved to new jersey for 4 years... Only 2 people (my closest friends) knows im from saipan... no one knows im a chamorro... hard to explain to them were im from.. so i just lie and lie say im from new jersey for 4 years... now they think im spanish, asian, or hawaiian.... im an embarrassment to my culture.

  • I proudly recite on Saipan. I hope to one day join the USMC which is the branch that fought for this island.

  • respect to all soldiers, no matter what side or country they align themselves with.

  • 0:59 That kamikaze must have lit the night at that moment.

  • I was Born in saipan too but i left at the age of 7

but luckily when i asked do you know saipan too my neighbor and suprisingly he was chomoro

  • My grandfather fought in Saipan. He was telling my older brother one day when he and his buddy were checking for civilians in civilian houses, they found a whole platoon of japanese soldiers and his buddy shot them all down.

  • My dad was in the Navy. Landing Craft Infantry-Rocket. In other words, LCI-R. He rocketed the beaches and beyond before the Marines landed. His ship was the 462. They got close,,,real close, to do their job. Great video.

  • Awesome video.

  • my great uncle was killed on saipan. may him rest in peace

  • This footage isn't from saipan.

  • I from Saipan and I'm an islander. No knows that the bloodiest battle of the Pacific took place here. They didn't even know about the Marianas Turkey shoot.

  • wow im from saipan too except i only lived there for 6 years then moved out here to Utah,Washington, and Tennessee. I miss saipan......

  • my bad i thought you were sum1 knew

  • 2:12 was that a kamikaze?

  • @thecarrotdude Yep, a dead one.

  • I was born in Saipan and lived there for 9 years.

And when I came to Canada.

not one single person ever heard of it.

  • i just moved to saipan, never heard of it before. when I lived in Ohio....will say....it is a beautiful island!!

  • @Onny01 How not? The tanks are everywhere.

  • @herrnhutmissionary But nobody here knows about it.

    ):

  • @Onny01 I will be living there and I know!

  • @herrnhutmissionary canada, or Saipan?

'cause this is how it's gonna go

Someone is gonna ask where you're born

    You say United states

They then ask WHERE in united states

You then have to explain about Saipan

    Happens all the time -_-

  • This is where 3/10 marines got there name" seven for one" seven enemy dead for every marine was the kill ratio

  • My grandfather fought with the 3rd amphibious battailion 2nd marine division on Tarawa, Saipan and Okinawa.

He is my Hero and the reason i joined the Marines. Rest in Peace John Kerr you are dearly missed.

  • wow thats truly some thing there

  • I'M FROM SAIPAN

  • realy nice place, if the question isnt stupid

  • My Grandfather fought at Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa in the USMC. I try to ask him of his experiences there but he won't talk much about them.... Before his ship landed at Siapan a Japanese Kamikazi hit his ship. The head of the Kamikazi rolled across the deck and landed by his foot. He took the headband off the decapitated head and kicked it overboard. I have it framed. No Joke.

  • It's really hard to get those stories from the men who fought in the Pacific. That is not to discredit the men who fought in Europe, but every man I talked to who was in Europe will tell you damn near anything you want to know. But anyways, that is quite a story. Your grandfather was a good man. If he is still around tell him I said thank you.

  • @bettendorfer78 could you please upload it?

    i would be gratefull

  • @bettendorfer78 pix or it didn't happen.

  • The Herald community newpaper from Chicago Il records my uncle "Robert, M.M.3/c., lost his life aboard the USS Watts when it was struck by a Jap suicide plane on August 11, 1945. He had served 19 months in continuous service on the ocean but died aboard his ship." His brother (my father) had just returned home from Saipan when he got the news. They are now gone from this earth and are reunited in heaven. God Bless them always. Love, Daughter and Niece

    You will never be forgotten...

    Marine Sgt. Alfred Lawrence Kirby

    2nd Marine Div.

    Saipan - KIA 16 June 1944

  • Amen. God bless Uncle Alfie.

  • this helped me with my homework thank you! :)

  • I live in Saipan may be small but peaceful.

  • ths footage s rely amazng.. i've been to saipan jst early this year and jst fel nloved the place. we visited a lot of hstoric places n saipan and even recognzed some spots shown in this video specifically the very cliff where a woman jumped..

  • jesus I never knew it was like that......more than 4 weeks of hardcore war....I see the reality of how it is and it's nothing like in the movies.........

  • Read "Line of Departure: Tarawa" it doesn't cover this battle, but Tarawa was a very bloody invasion.

  • saipan ;looks nothing like it did in windtalkers but that was a somewhat innacurate film 0.o

  • music from?

  • The music is from the film "Ladder 49"

  • sad tragic and a good video well done

  • My grandfather fought there

  • did he survived.

  • Yes, he fought in Korea and Vietnam after World War Two.

  • and in vietnam he died?or he was like an "hero" and survived the 3 wars?would be awesome :)

  • Yes he survived, he died after the wars, on December 7th, 2001. He retired after his first tour in Vietnam, he didn't want to be there any more than he had too. Although, my dad told me how he had wished so bad he could rejoin the Corps and go to the Gulf in the 90's.

  • so he killed a lots of enemys?!

  • I don't know, maybe. He didn't talk much about it, I really don't know. He was an engineer in Vietnam and Infantryman in Korea and WWII. I think. The only things he ever told us was a story where he said that the Chosin Reservoir in Korea was the coldest place he could ever imagine. He also had one story about him driving a tractor and his CO got sniped but he had to keep driving the tractor while infantry looked for the sniper.

  • Ok.Thank you for telling this short story.

    Very interesting.

  • Do not know who edited this but there were no kamikaze attacks during saipan assault.

that came later in the Phillipines and was de rigeur at Okinawa in april 1945.

    I was there

  • You're right about that Billybitzer. What unit did you serve in by the way?

  • but i thought saipan was invaded by mosquitos.

  • that's because you are a creep.

    I was there.

  • The war was lost for japan in 1942 at midway, stupid that they kept fighting, all it did was cause more death, from midway it was just a question of when. But that is what happens when insanity rules over reason. They believed that they were superior, so by some miracle they would defeat the us military that was commited to victory at any cost.

  • very moving video

  • Among the biggest massive suicides of human history, this battle in 1944 was massive.I live in Brazil.

  • my uncle was in the 27th "new york infantry" divsion his unit the 27th qm co was abushed by the large bonzai attack they lost many of there men, his unit came to saipan with 128 men and cam out with 42....

  • man they invaded saipan nine days after d-day

  • i live on saipan

  • That was one of the most moving footages I have seen. The horrific Japanese losses on Saipan led to the removal of the Tojo government.

  • Some of the footage shown isn't actually from the battle of Saipan ... for example, the kamikaze plane crashing into a U.S. warship happened later in the war. The Japanese did not employ kamikazes until the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944.

  • no they first used sucide planes in the battles for the coral sea and new britain (1942-1943), world war two magazine i think november issue has picture of a unexploded "baka plane"on new britain

  • Coral Sea and New Britain? I don't think so... look up "Kamikaze" in wikipedia.

  • yes but japenese were told never surrender so if they were hit they would hit the nearest target

  • The first recorded suicide attack was just two hours after Pearl Harbor when a Japanese pilot deliberately crashed his damaged aircraft into an American ship. It kept happening sporadically thereafter but became really organized during the Battle of the Philippine Sea.

  • Yeah, Yamamoto discouraged suicide attacks, since he knew he could reuse the men if they could survive. After he died many who believed in the suicide attacks encouraged it, which like you said became well renown in the Battle of the Phillippine sea.

  • Thats ny homeland baby.. YA!!!!!!!!!

  • You Should See the Movie WindTalker THen!!!

  • Really wasn't a "Japanese" island. It kinda got persuaded to be one, if you know what I mean.

  • I'm from Saipan too... wow... now my college buddies could see where we came from.

  • lol yeah, this is a great tourism video to show them. It really shows the beauty of your homeland

  • Haha I didn't mean it as a tourism video. However good history behind it!

  • every country that america influence turn into a country of homos and whores and dont forget the ugly ass mix race like crackers
