Well megasta666 I did not major in any animal science, but I've been raising dogs for four decades,dogs for police/military work herding cattle, hunting dogs, and I can tell you from my experience,they have a free will. they do not like being fenced in locked up. they have their own personalities. and the will let you know when they are pissed off of having no freedom to roam.

Wolves howl to signal their position to the rest of the pack. A pack that should be in the wild not freakin entertainment for people to watch from behind a gate.
That IS their real home. The wolves you see in zoo's or preserves were BORN in captivity. They don't go out and capture these things and then just stick them in a zoo. It wouldn't work. They'd tear everything apart trying to escape.

Plus this wolf is probably not afraid of humans, so if you let it go it would just be caught again. Not fearing humans is also not good on the wolves behalf or the humans. Wolves need a pack to hunt, too. They have a very strong prey drive, but if this wolf got sick or injured, without a pack it would die.

Well ran zoos do a lot of conservation and education. These animals are ambassadors for their species and their environment. These animals can't just be released into the wild so we make sure that they can do marvelous work for their world instead of watching them parish. I have my Masters in EvoBio and a PhD and work in Namibia doing Hyena research. What set me on that path was a single experience I had a zoo where I connected with an animal in a way that I never thought could happen.
@ledzepplindonnelly When I was in HS I worked as a shadow keeper (helped zoo keepers do their job). I eventually got cycled into the pachyderm unit. While behind the scenes of the elephant habitat one reached out with it's trunk and grabbed my hand and just looked at me in the eyes. I've seen less intelligence behind the eyes of humans I have met. To this day I still get chills just thinking about it. I knew from that day my life had to be about conservation and research.

@chh150 I don't think their sad. They wouldn't be howling at all if they were sad. We treat animals like delicate little china plates, unable to withstand any shock or adversity, and some are. But wolves are adaptive, and very intelligent. If they're in captivity, they will be making the best of it.
If peole didn't hunt these animals, we could probably get along with them. They could probably live with us and everything.I don't get why we need to keep hunting them. Humans just have the luxury of being exempt from the game. Wolves are competitive, intelligent, but still driven by instinct. We eat sheep, so do wolves. but, I think wolves should be preserved.

@8VampireLover8 yeah I agree wolves do belong in the wild, but some people are stupid and think it would be a good idea to have a wolf as a pet and it ends up here. You were being irrational talking about how you would open the gate and all the wolves would run free when in reality they would all be caught or die. I assumed you were one of those people who thought it was sad by howling because your lack of education on wolves and proof of this is stated above.

i had 2 wolves come to my house as puppies my white one did this about a week before he died
i couldnt catch him to take him to the vet the black one left2 days after he died and never came back she was pregnant

Well ran zoos do a lot of conservation and education. These animals are ambassadors for their species and their environment. These animals can't just be released into the wild so we make sure that they can do marvelous work for their world instead of watching them parish. I have my Masters in EvoBio and a PhD and work in Namibia doing Hyena research. What set me on that path was a single experience I had a zoo where I connected with an animal in a way that I never thought could happen.

@ledzepplindonnelly When I was in HS I worked as a shadow keeper (helped zoo keepers do their job). I eventually got cycled into the pachyderm unit. While behind the scenes of the elephant habitat one reached out with it's trunk and grabbed my hand and just looked at me in the eyes. I've seen less intelligence behind the eyes of humans I have met. To this day I still get chills just thinking about it. I knew from that day my life had to be about conservation and research.

Do you think I could go do my work in Namibia with hyenas effectively and safely just because I have compassion? To have a true understanding of what is going on and to leave a positive mark you most definitely need to educate yourself. And I don't mean reading a few websites here and there.

@chh150 I don't think their sad. They wouldn't be howling at all if they were sad. We treat animals like delicate little china plates, unable to withstand any shock or adversity, and some are. But wolves are adaptive, and very intelligent. If they're in captivity, they will be making the best of it.

Humans just have the luxury of being exempt from the game. Wolves are competitive, intelligent, but still driven by instinct. And instinct says if it's bigger than you, find out ASAP if it's a threat, or food. Instinct also says 'he who passes up easy prey is easy prey, himself,". We eat sheep, so do wolves. but, I think wolves should be preserved.
