The first time I visited New York was in 1963. My hometown was Boston and we didn't have any really big buildings at all at the time. My history class rode down to NYC on the train one day to see the United Nations. I will never forget how enormous that city seemed. I call it "Gotham". Somehow that name fits best.
Thank you. I know this route very well. I have taken the train through here many times. I can see that you rode one of the Amfleet cars before they were refurbished.
So enjoyable. Your train ran through the Bronx neighborhood I lived in as a kid from 1964-69. It's the area where the Bruckner Xpressway is elevated and the rail line is below street level. This is the section where it looks like you turned off the camera since a concrete wall is all that one can see. Stirred up a lot of fond memories.
So when an Amtrak heads north out of Penn, it goes due east into Brooklyn, and then north across the Triborough into the Bronx and then WC - do I have all that correct?
Yes, except that it goes through Queens, not Brooklyn. Then it curving westward, you go over the Hell Gate Bridge (Triborough is the car/bus/truck bridge next to it). After the bridge, the route curves northward while still high up on the Elevated structure, then onward through the Bronx. Circuititious route, but at speed it's not too long and the scenery is hard to beat, indeed!
That sunset is beautiful, man. Last time, I could see the sea in between Sg and Msia from my home cause I live in the North. When there was the sunset, the orange-red rays would enter thru the windows and could be seen on the walls of my bedroom. Now there's this stupid building that's blocking the view. I can't even see the sunset and the sea.
Wow. The city is HUGE! Im from new zealand and our cities are absolutely tiny compared to this!
