Fantastic! He was a hero of mine back then and I used to pretend to be him when I went running! And smashing the world record by 8 seconds is phenomenal.
@PihaSandDunes thankfully found it on a DVD...I saw it on the day it happened and then not again for nearly four decades...oops,admitting my age here...
I couldn't see enough of Bedford in those great days and thought him invincible. The disappointment of the 72 games made me miserable for days. I was on holiday at the time with friends and desperately trying to get them out of Conway Castle and into a pub where we could watch him run.
@FinnMove Bedford is the reason I like athletics|! Sportsmen are,by and large, pretty boring up close, which is fine.... I just remember Bedford appearing like an explosion when I was in my early teens, all mouth and attitude,,and I was hooked.Even after he got stuffed by Vaatainen in '71 and Viren in 72 I still thought he was fantastic!
@ARRISIPPY I remember Dave Bedford very well though I was only a child when Väätäinen and Viren beat him. Sad for him, but Vladimir Kuts days were over in Olympics and so on. I think Bedford could have won Marathon some day but his career was by injuries pretty short, as you may know.

Training too many miles destroyed Bedford. Had they known the sport science of today, Bedford would have been saved from the ever-injuried career.
A runner from Hong Kong

ベドフォードのこの世界記録達成の動画が見られる日が来るとは思いませんでした
有難うございます。
フロントランナーらしく勝負弱かったけど人気は№1でしたね。
