  • One of my favourite ever games. I fell in love with this when it came out.^_^

  • FAP FAP FAP sound @ 8:06.

  • This soundtrack is brilliant but i think it's a little overrated.

Secret of Evermore's soundtrack is the best i've ever heard though :D

Still love some themes like Spirit of The Night, The Intro Theme and Star of Darkness or Dark Star whatever :)

  • My favorite game of all time.

  • OMG this game is the predecessor to Children Of Mana!!!! I luv dat game I dint know there was a prequel!! I knew from the second I saw the bunnything!!

  • Ah the days when if you got stuck in a game you had to call Nintendo... :)

  • What's the name of the song starting at 5:47 please, anyone? Thank you ^o^/

  • @siuaiseo Spirit of the Night

  • never played the game but love this. damn these old games just had so much charm.

  • Before 50 sec, it the best game intro!

  • I want the good old SNES time back...

  • @Surferin85 same here. born in 85 as well??

  • @gungsmas

    Yep. : )

  • Thumb up if you cried when you finished the game.

  • <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • 2:55 sounds like dementia, 4:50 is $htanky Funky, 7:30 is f'ing great

  • Freedom Mana

  • Amazing how just a few notes can bring back so many memories. I loved this game.

  • I usually hate RPGs, but I like this game alot, despite how cheap the enemies can be. But it's the only game I play where sometimes the only reason I play it is because of the amazing music!

  • Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3 music brings me to tears. nothing comes close, except maybe Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6

  • can anyone please tell me why this looks really smooth on here and the wii download version of it looks shit and pixilated as hell????

  • @Derbster81

well maybe because the original is very pixelated.(snes only had, what, 320x240 resolution, if even?) it think the only reason this one looks smooth is because maybe he is using a filter on an emulator

  • @wexenhex yeah maybe but i hooked up my old snes and the wii up to my tv both at the same time and donkey kong country on the snes still looks alot smoother than the version of dkc that i downloaded from wii shop. Also i purchased the wii version of resi evil 1, again the gamecube version looks better!

  • @Derbster81

    originals are always better, man

  • @Derbster81 I think the better question is why the hell did you buy games you already own and have hooked up to the TV.

  • @RobotMasterSplash Cus I thought they'd look better being on the Wii and if i have the games downloaded on there then it would save setting up old consoles all the time. As for the original Resi evil, I got rid of the g.cube version years ago so I bought it for the wii, and thought this looks shit, so bought it for the gcube again and I was right.

  • One word...CAPTIVATING! From start to finish, no wonder why the composer's name is placed first of the director.

  • Surely one of the greatest of all time.

  • I've never played this game but the music at 3:00 sounds very familiar

  • Anybody else cry after they beat this game and they went online and realized an even MOAR AWESOME Secret of mana 2 game was out in japan and there was NOTHING you could do about it!?!?! (Says in a sarcastic voice) "OH but you could play Secret of Eversuck! Everybody wants a Dog as a second character but no fucking two-player action" Fucking Square lol.

P.S. I typed all this thinking of the opening theme of Secret of Mana

  • @dss103 Seiken Densetsu 2 was great... but Secret of Mana was better.

  • @TWIICEtheMegaPower Dude, that's the same game... The first Seiken Densetsu was a GameBoy-game not released outside of Japan, which is why Seiken Densetsu 2 simply became Secret of Mana. Same thing with Seiken Densetsu 3 or Secret of Mana 2 - only released in Japan, which is a terrible shame because it is everything that made the first (or second, whatever) game fantastic and improves everything to perfection. One of the best games ever.

  • @viljamtheninja Actually, I realized my mistake after writing that comment.

And the Game Boy game WAS released in the US, but not under the name Secret of Mana. It was released as "Final Fantasy".

  • @TWIICEtheMegaPower Really? I totally missed out on that part, but thanks for telling me. Now I have a new item on my GIVE ME IT-list!

  • ahh it brings back old memories.

  • If the guy loading up wouldn´t be such an idiot...

  • I remember playing this when it first came out, was haloween night and my niece came upstairs and showed me her carved pumpkin but it had no candle so i put in it a glow stick the type you crack and its all neon lol, looked awesome nice memory

  • Epic

  • Ah another beautiful game words just can't do it justice

  • Oh great, after hearing the soundtrack I'm going to have to go beat it once again... thanks!

  • @doslover

not the worst way to spend 8 hours ^^

  • And the award for best use of gamelan in a videogame goes to...

  • you don't need more than 16 bit to make fantastic soundtracks =)

  • Comment removed

  • Freakin' epic soundtrack!!! Ah memories. I might have to dust off the ol' SNES. Now, if this video only had the Dwarf Village music, it would have been perfect! :)

  • I recently found this on the Wii's Virtual Console. Can't say I regret the purchase.

Never thought Square would make an RPG that wasn't turn based. Although Adventure of Link was an ok game, I'd rather Zelda handle leveling up the way this game has it, if it ever went back on having more RPG elements.

Still need to finish this game. Have no idea how far I am.

  • ach jaaa die guten alten zeiten

  • @dortmunder27 nicht die guten...die BESTEN =)

  • That fat kid 'friend' of yours in that game always pissed me off. I so wanted to punt his ass off a bridge every time I went back to play this game.

  • I gave you a thumbs down and a spam marking for being an attention whore instead.

  • @FlameAdder Whatever man.

  • u mad

  • This music is underated. Music on TV can''t make u feel like it does. Or is it because we know it from our child-teenage-hood ? :)

  • One of the best games of all time

  • Seiken Densetsu 2 and 3 had such incredible soundtracks, but SD2/SoM also had an interesting history not too many people know about. It was supposed to be a Nintendo CD game, but when the deal between Sony and Nintendo went sour and the system was cancelled, the nearly-complete Nintendo CD version of the game had to have a huge amount of content cut to make the game fit on a cartridge. That's why the game is so glitchy and the story so convoluted. Sad considering how great the game still is.

  • 2:17 I contemplate having this one as a good morning tune on an alarm clock.

  • 3:54 Has a sense of impending doom type of sound. The best track in the game though :)

  • This game is magic. It helped pave the way for games like Chrono Trigger.

  • The music around 3:20 sounds like music in bali traditionnal dances

  • the 1 person who disliked this had a 1 inch dick. well, when you have a 1 inch dick, there's not much to like in this world...

  • Loudest drum sample in the history of video games

  • 16 bit era was peak of video games

  • 8:15 GREAT SONG.

    amazin games Squaresoft

  • Comment removed

  • Very good but Secret of Everymore > all

  • @ol57200 I gotta go try that one again. Never beaten it.

  • SquareSoft > Sqaure Enix

  • @bishop0305

this has been true since the day they married

  • @bishop0305 SquareSoft > Shitty anime game company

  • wow... such an awesome game. i was so into this game back then. every game was better on the snes... sure, the graphics werent up-the-ass realistic, but the quality of the games was much better than most crap games out on the 360, ps3 or w/e... fuck, now i feel like going into my garage to dig out my snes and my cartridges haha

  • this is THE best game soundtrack of all time.

  • 3:53 = absolutely amazing

  • The best A RPG ever IMHO

From the graphics to the story and musics, everything is just incredibly perfect.

Lucky I was to get it for christmas 94, didn't know then how blessed I was to play such a game when it got released

I still got the game & box in mint condition, the booklet has seen better days sadly ....NEVER leave booklet and box to "friends"!!!!!

  • Goddamn I love you Japan.

  • The Super NES was hailed for its incredible music and sound back then, and now almost two decades later it still holds its own.

The music in the game really immersed you in the experience; The graphics were colorful without being gaudy, and the characters were entertaining without being over-the-top. Plus, you can travel by dragonback or by a cannon! How cool is that. =)

There were plenty of great games back then, and Square brought us several A+ RPGs...but there is only one Secret of Mana.

  • @Skyrift Glad they had this on the Virtual Console!

  • and i never did find the myhtical 9 sword orb to upgrade to the mana sword, spend like 5 gaming days looking for it when i was a kid

  • WOW...

I never would have said it before just now, but this game has to be on the short list for best video game soundtrack ever.

  • Goosebumps when I heard the intro.....

  • Une merveille de divetissement !

  • LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. If I could marry a game, this would be my wife. (And I'd cheat on her with Chrono Trigger)

  • The best thing about smartphones finally getting good is the fact that they all run emulators for everything up to the first Playstation (on my Droid, anyway). This, to me, allows us to go back and play everything from the Golden Age of Gaming... everything up to the Nintendo 64. After that, it was all downhill IMO. Graphics and sound and voice acting came before plot, good writing, and great pacing / puzzle solving (also, for some reason, I just hate FPS games, so I'm screwed these days). /rant

  • @leutbneot I'm not sure why you think that. Gameplay and graphics were certainly before story in Playstation and N64 era, but what about the PS2 era? Most of my favorite games of all time are on the PS2, which combine fantastic gameplay adn story. Maybe you haven't played enough to know what I'm talking about. I will say this though, the current generation of gaming has hit an all-time low. Unbelievably poor quality games. There are only a handful I'd call really good.

  • 8:46 yes. listen to hey papi by jay z

  • the most fun games ever

  • the 16 bit era pwned all

  • Timothy is a time mage in training.

  • ....and this is why the 90's kicked more ass than any decade in the XXIst , second or third century will ever kick.

  • Oh, you should've added the ice stage theme. It's one of the best! Thumbs up anyway.

  • Oh, no, it's in French! lol! XD

  • 5:00 is in final fantasy 7 to the town at the beginning where the fat man is

  • I woild kill for a snes with all my favourite games >:)

  • @ACABak47

About a year ago, I bought one along with a BUNCH of my favorites games. And STILL looking for some. Within my fist week though, I got Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy III (VI), Super Mario World, F-Zero, Yoshi's Island, Super Punch-Out, Star Fox, Sim City, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario RPG, and the list goes on. I mean, is this not the best console ever or what? I mean, look at that list of games. And there are still so many good ones!

  • @jarannalli Agree, im thinking about buying one to.

    Emulators are not the same.

  • @ACABak47

Yeah, for a while, I was just downloading them on Wii (so as to not feel like a pirate, haha). But even THAT wasn't the same for me. Plus, I was at the mercy of what the devs decided to release.

If you are a fan of SNES, and I know you are, then get one. I'm not sorry about the money I spent. :)

  • @jarannalli i agree with you but.. SHAME ON YOU FOR LEAVING LUFIA II OUT!! thats prob the best story line in a game of all time

  • @LoZTwilight

Yeah, I've heard good things about that game, particularly Lufia II, but I never played either of them. I will have to find them.

  • @jarannalli then i recommand to download a emulator with the lufia II rom it relly is one of the best games ever made

  • @LoZTwilight

    Sorry, I don't download roms.

  • @jarannalli then you need to go to a dumb games store, i am sure you can buy it there ;)

  • @LoZTwilight

Yeah yeah. I'm one of those idiots who won't stand for piracy. ;)

  • @jarannalli i ment dumpstore not dumb i am dutch so sometimes i type the wrong words sorry mate

  • Amazing, no "Phantom and a Rose"?

  • Amazing intro music, I used to fire this up just to listen to it. Gorgeous, simply gorgeous.

  • Still one of the finest adventure/RPGs to come from the 16-bit era. I know a lot of players swoon over Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI - and rightfully so - but Secret of Mana is right up there with them.

The Super NES was (and still is) legendary for putting out some of the greatest RPGs ever. It was also renowned for its incredible sound output, granting gamers some of the best video game music of all time.

Put those two elements together, and...well. =)

  • this has to be in the top 5 of this list for sure. maybe its even the best ever... ive never heard any soundtrack standing on its own like this.

  • Where's the track "Prophesy" ? It's the best track in the game.

  • What's the song part at :55 called? I've been looking all over for it.

  • @Barbe it's the menu theme

  • @julwin1985

Yeah, I know where it's at in the game, but what is it called on here? I need to add it to my Playlist.

  • "Candy won't fit"

  • It's games like this and Chrono Trigger that make me arrogantly look down and spit on contemporary rpg games. It doesn't make it right but hey, what can I say. Also, "Boy in the Forest" the track starting at 1:25 is one of my all time favorite tracks of any video game period. I loved it as a young child and I love it as a grown man.

  • What are you afraid of? (The Sword) (The Fortress)

  • One of my favorites.

  • 10 mins of 1994 that i remember every note of still 16 years later.

  • @fuckcomments

    Likewise! :D

  • EPIC !

  • I think the 90´s game music is soo easy to remember because:

    1.) awesome games

2.) easy tones for the brain to remember.

  • nah the composers were just professional after working on electronic music for older computers and 1980s systems, when these guys reached the SNES they were digital music MASTERS and ripped it up with awesome catchy riffs and a whole array of sweet sounding digital instruments. damn SNES music rocked. The composers were fucking geniuses is what it comes down to.

  • Man how I loved these games and their music. As a professional musician / rpg music writer and studio engineer, hearing these songs again as I did as a kid, inspires me to make rpg music. Thanks for the flashback and memories of these games and their soundtracks. :) 5 outta 5 from me. Peace from Detroit Michigan's Northern Burbs.

  • It's not silly. This game has some special music. It stands out in this list.

  • good old times....

  • 3:54 i love it <3 x3

  • Square did a terrific job with the music in this game!

  • I want to reborn as a sprite in japanese video game................

  • Cremony dude..its awesome shit

  • @BushidoMH listen to hook the banquet and youl see were they got the song from, i love it to

  • lolz, rly?

I know what you're talking about.

  • what song is it that starts at 3:34??

  • It's called "Ceremony," I believe. Awesome game, I'm glad I still have it ^^

  • Comment removed

  • its called ceremony its off the SOM soundtrack. Creepiest tune of all i say and its in the 1st tower part of the game is you play.

  • way to go

  • What do you guys call it? Oh yeah, Royale with Cheese.

  • LOL

  • man am I happy that I still have my snes. I think im gonna play some zelda or something.

  • Topp 3 game of all time, best soundtrack of all time. So fucking beautiful, personal favorite - holy intruder.

  • Best RPG.

Story and music and battle system are very good.

  • danger was one of the most awesome songs from this game, i felt like pro fighting bosses with that song

  • That's probably my favorite song from the soundtrack. Of course, I'm a boss music nut already, but something as high-energy as "Danger" just can't be missed.

  • I've never played Secret of Mana

But I've heard most of the tracks and I can tell you my objective opinion.

My favorites are Fear of the Heavens, Meridian Dance, and The Wind Never Ceases.

  • I'd add Prophecy to that list, NewestOne. But you're right, those are the best.

  • Aww man! you made me cry! too

that song is just to epic for me. some of my most cherished child hood memorys, playing 3players, up all night, then passing out to the glow of the TV with my best childhood friends.

my fave RPG of all time!

  • thx square for all the great games

u made some of the best times in my life

  • couldn't have put it better myself

  • I bought the official soundtrack cd off ebay a while back. I burnt it to my xbox 360 hard drive so I could listen to it all the time lol. Beautiful, still one of the best game soundtracks ever along (IMO) with Thunderforce 4, Super Metroid, Zelda - A Link to the Past, The 16-bit Sonic games, Super Mario World....

  • Never got to finish the game when I was young. Its too epic, I will play it again. Theres no better rpg coming out on any console any time soon hahahaa. Squaresoft in the super nintendo era FTW!!

  • Time sure flies..

  • Damn, I´m listening to this and I can´t stop crying. This soundtrack is just undescrible, it brings back so good memories of my childhood. Who could play games likes thhis on SNES and Genesis at the first half of 90's are blessed.

  • I was lucky enought to be born in 1980 so growing up I had a Megadrive and SNES and played this game over and over. A true classic. The 16-bit era was something special to live and grow up in. I still have my orignal consoles from back then and play them to this day. Gorgeous music for a truly epic rpg.

  • @Ainnem

Amen to that brother. I couldn't agree more if I tried for a month. It's hard to distinguish whether the music was amazing in its own right, or whether the memories of getting up extra early to play it before school and then thinking about nothing else throughout the day until you could get home and play it some more affect my judgement. Either way, I'm with you. Magical.

  • @Ainnem im putting it in right now man haha!!

  • @Ainnem

I'm sure you've gotten a thousand responses to this comment, but I agree 100%. SNES is the greatest console ever!

  • Yea, except for the crying part. but yea. We were blessed, you were only truly blessed if you were also able to watch rated R movies and play any games you wanted. Like me. I can basically do anything now involving games from 1990-1999 and movies from whenever and it reminds me of my childhood. woo. cant escape the past cant escape no escape no it was too good, must replace new reality with old one, yes.

  • good memories of this game

  • My god... goose bumps

  • Secret of Mana was such an awesome game. The gameplay was awesome and the music was epic. That first track is simply beautiful.

  • Ha, it's Seiken's speedrun used as the video!

  • that opening music...just haunting

  • La version française de Secret Of Mana ?

On voit rarement ça sur Youtube ! :D

The musics of this game are really great... specially the one for the Dark Lich...

  • That doesn't sound very polite...

    What was that for ?

  • Is it a traduction or are your digging your own grave ?
