I don't think any of the people running in that election knew what the Bush Doctrine was, especially Obama or Biden. So why was she asked this question at that time and not asked to any of the other runners until it became of common knowledge among them? Simple, she was set up to look stupid as they did to her time and time again. I actually think she gave a better answer then anybody else would have at that time.

How is it selfish if we work hard for the money we earn? Obama plans to tax real estate selling. That means when my dad plans to sell the apartment complex that he worked so hard on for many years as a landlord, and then he wont even get near as much profit for it as he would without the tax. This was not a great interview for her. I think it was a sincere question by Charlie, and it's important. If Sarah knew what the Bush doctrine is, she certainly did not show it by giving a generic answer. A question about Bush? I just need to say something about his foreign policy and that it was bad at times. It was a bad answer.

Why would Gibson present a statement such as 'do you believe in the Bush Doctrine' without definition, when there is no one official version? I'll bet most, if not all, of those in Congress would not know right away either.

The goal here seemed to trap the subject to seem 'lost', either by Palin having to ask for further clarification of something she 'should know', or by Gibson supplying this definition after the answer is given by the subject, as if the question was answered incorrectly.

She should know the Bush Doctrine without hesitation. If you remember following 9/11 in 2002, President Bush was fighting the Constitution for the right to pre-emptive strike. The problem is, the term Bush Doctrine is not a formal term, but one the mainstream media has coined and used. I read and discuss politics quite a bit and have not heard this term used, but I do not frequent liberal chats or blogs. Gibson used poor interviewing approach in not asking a specific question in the first place.

You've never heard of [insert president] Doctrine before? The term was around way before George Bush. Kennedy Doctrine? Reagan Doctrine? Eisenhower Doctrine?

As to Bush's, books have been written about it, including the one pictured in this video by Noam Chomsky. A pulitzer winning conservative, Charles Krauthammer, was the first to use the term Bush Doctrine.

I just listened this morning to a commentator who has written four books that mention the Bush Doctrine....but he added that each time he was researching the term as it was being used at the time had taken on different meaning. There is not a single document, as I understand it, called "The Bush Doctrine"...It is a term others have applied to some speeches Bush has made, but when looking at Googled articles, each article has its own understanding of what the "Bush Doctrine" is.....
