I have recently been listening to lots of covers of this magical song. I think the classical string covers really identify something special. This is not the best arrangement or performance, however.

He is trying to do a reproduction of the original song. Clear classical playing in this song wouldn't improve the song.

I heard Matt Haimovitz play this at the
Santuario de Guadalupe in Santa Fe 2/13/2005.
It was unbelievable,the 4 cellos,the 200 + year old setting,Kashmir.This will not be repeated in that venue again.
