It still amazes me that no reference is ever made as to HOW 300 men in this small rural place at that time in that black town just HAPPENED to GET syphilis.Never mind that they were being treated by a German doctor who gave orders to Black nurses one of whose name was Mary Starke who stated that she was told to inject these men with the virus. No other men in surrounding counties died from this. None of their wived or ANY women were reported to contract or die from thys disease.An explanation?

its amazing they have not made a movie about the black aquadron - a blaxpolitation directed by tarantino, surely it would be a hit - perhaps a duel story, the black dudes get accidentaly injected with a drug (irony been that the scientisit think the placebo is harmless) and then they mutate or develop mad powers, a sort of black monster bomber squad that fly agasint the nazis. great blog by the way

I'm not sure weather or not to take slight offense or to be mildly amused.

I'm counted as a "northerner" and I've known that BBQ happens over hours not "ten minutes on a fired grill" for as long as I can remember.

although I do see what you mean with all of the applebee'mcfunster type restaurants around (at least where I live) its hard to find real BBQ around the northeast.

Actually a few years ago I drove the Natchez Trace and it was a surreal and beautiful experience. One day I may talk about that drive.

I wished stories like that of the Tusksegee airmen were taught in school. One had to learn such stories from parents. No disrespect to MLK but the LA school system acted as if he was the only black person to make a positive contribution to society. Well, there was an occasional mention of Dr. Charles Drew. And I do mean occasional. This topic can fuel so much good discussion... Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Was there no history or any interesting landmarks you saw as came thru Georgia? FYI northern Georgia is way differant from southern Georgia...both have southern hospitality though...good luck on your trek to Cali and keep up the good work
