@LillyC68 Hi, Lilly! Thanks for visiting my channel - I do appreciate your kind remarks. Isn't it so frustrating when you've set up the video camera and the lighting, only to find you just can't play the notes correctly - your fingers and brain go on strike! I suspect the answer is lots and lots of practice beforehand - and one day I'll try that!
@honkytonkpiano Normally I practise a lot before I try to do a video... but the situation with the camera doesn't make it better.
When I started making videos I felt like dying as soon as the camera was on... my hands even shivered sometimes. Now it's much better. :)
But I still can go mad when I got the "perfect" version and find out, the camera didn't work or the recording software didn't do it's job. I'm glad nobody's around in these moments... :)))
@LillyC68 It's surprising how tense you can get when just doing a home recording. The mistakes seem to get earlier and earlier with each take. Editing is easy enough with sound only, but I haven't got the hang of video + sound editing, so things have to be done in one take. As for switching the camera on and off - I was convinced I'd recorded another medley, but it's nowhere to be found. It will have to wait for another recording session!
I've just been transported back in time to my Nan's partys where we would all sit round the 'Portadyne' singing along to Russ. Thanks for the memory Mike.
@honkytonkpiano As I've said before Mike, I think you are too hard on yourself. I've had another listen thru and if there are any fluffs, then they're only tiny ones hardly visible to the naked ear.
In any case Mr Conway was not immune to the odd mistake, even in his heyday. I can remember halfway thru "Liverpool Pops" on a Billy Cotton Show in 1963, he just stopped playing for about 5 seconds or so. Then he just laughed and carried on to the end as if nothing has happened! Cheers Mark
Wonderfull ,I loved every minute your reverse tenth is perfect. After Smashing my left arm quite severly many years ago it is now no longer possible for me to sustain either the forward or the reverse tenth for the whole of a piece. Waltzes, however, are still possible for me . I look forward to your next posting. I always watch your vids.
@forwardtenth Thanks, David. Your enthusiasm is greatly appreciated. I'm sorry to hear about your problem with your left arm, though. Did you know about Jack Gibbons' car accident in which his hands got badly smashed up? He was eventually able to regain his remarkable technique by really working on lots of piano exercises. When you hear him play, you'd never suspect that he'd ever had such a problem. Kind regards, Mike
Whenever I need a boost it's a good idea to stop by your channel!
Ooooh, I know that thing with the takes... it took my days sometimes to get a sufficient version.
Glad to know I'm not alone... :)
thanks for sharing,
Lilly

@honkytonkpiano that confirms my theory, that technical equipment does have a life of its own! :)
Looking forward to your next sessions!

Hi Mike
10 out of (Piano Pops No.) 10!
Cheers Mark

@MarcusTomatos Thanks, Mark. (It would have been 5 out of 10 for the earlier takes that had even more mistakes than this one!)
