  • Perfect

  • What pedal do you use to give it such grit

  • This video actually inspired me to pick up a bass and have been playing for about a year now. I have absolutely loved it ever since and learned almost every Tool song (even though I don't have effects). Thank you Brad :)

  • can you do an hd cover of H.?

  • Really good aside from the pick

  • do u have new strings they sound new

  • Effect 3:48 part? =D

  • @menixx1337 Distortion, Delay, and Bass Whammy 1 octave up

  • nice sox hat. New England ftw

  • i'll give you ten dollars and a shitty blow job for your Wal bass

  • hey man, cud u possibly tell me what distortions/ effects u have for the part around @4:10. Ty, great videos

  • University of South Florida? I made my exchange semester there last fall... gosh if i had known, we could have met at marshall center and maybe play together a little! ;)

    greetings from germany!

  • Fantastic cover of a fantastic song, love it :)

  • Good stuff. Go Bulls

  • Dude that was the fucking shit. I've been playing bass for 15 years and in touring bands for 8 years, that is a masterful control of tone with fantastic clarity and accuracy. Rock on man.

  • The triplets of 0-10-12 to 10, 0, 9, 0, 12 is pretty difficult for me to actually do properly. Is there any way to make it easier or is it just a speed thing?

  • @Astrodude55 if you play with a pick its up and down, if you play wiith fingers than you gotta learn how to play with your ring finger two look up Alex Webster thats what he dose

  • @Astrodude55 start by playing it slow, then slowly play it faster, took me a few hours or practice to get it right.

  • @Astrodude55 I personally hammer them :/ You could always gallop with your ring/middle/index finger though.

  • Great.Great.Great.Great.

  • FUCKING DEADLY BRO!!!!!

  • r u using any pedals?

  • @Punkmaggot7 yes, you use quite a few pedals if you want to do it right

  • @Commiteee

I can't wait to see your whole heap of videos playing Tool better than this.

  • @Commiteee This guy is the single best bass coverer of tool songs so shut your bitch ass up

  • @Commiteee Let's see you make one and do it better. You trolls are all alike. Say people suck and need to get better or learn to play, etc. The amusing thing is you guys never make a video of you doing any better.

  • great cover, so jealous of your rig lol

  • this is drop d?

  • @innerlz yup

  • Which knob are you turning?

  • @trash266001 it's volume knob

  • When it comes to playing bass, you win.

  • awesome covers dude, wondering where you get tabs from cos the closest i can find is tooltabs.net which are good but they miss certain parts out before and after the whammy section. If you could provide any help i'd appreciate it. Keep on Tooling around ;)

  • What tuning is this?

  • @6count6maggot6 it's drop d, man.

  • my old tutor used to get pissed when i couldnt get that heavier part right xD

  • mhmm the tabs i'm learning this song from doesn't seem to match up with yours? in other news, good cover bro

  • where did you get guitar from??

  • you're playing the last part of the intro wrong...

you're using A# there but the second line should have been an A...

  • @SFU21 no. i see no a# and hear no a#.

  • @KiodFox use your ears , not guitar pro :)

    tab guy :)

  • @SFU21 you your eyes, to read that i said hear.

  • @SFU21 wait i forgot what the notes on the g string were. i only ever think about the e a and d.

  • @KiodFox just a small problem... shouldn't cause any problems , just drew my attention. :)

other than that it's a really good cover...

  • intro is wrong...all the other parts were marvelous...what do u use for effects?

  • i love when i read a tab and learn it to find out its wrong...haha

  • Are you using Flanger?

  • are you using Flanger

  • a friend just gave me a bass but i play drums and i can play this on the drums like its nothing but i wat to play this song on bass is it a hard song JUST THE INTRO

  • @logansdrums No, this song really isn't very hard at all. The only thing that's tricky is perhaps the timing, but other than that, if you have moderately strong fingers and you can hammer-on, you can play schism.

  • i think i need this video in extra slow-motion D:

  • What kind of bass is that? so freaking nice. so much tone.

  • @raybone18 its the one justin plays it begins with a W

  • @raybone18 check out the description of the channel :)

and the one Justin plays is Wal :)

  • hey everyone the tuning its drop c or what help here!!!!

  • @9rmetal it's Dropped D (D A D G, from low to high)

  • After you hammer on the 10th and 12th fret on string D do you hammer on or pick the tenth fret on string G I know i probably sound really fucking stupid here but you cant learn if you dont ask

  • Holy shit...

  • that was awesome. how did you make the synth sounds in the middle?

  • @heavyduty718 Distortion/fuzz and a bass whammy on the 1 octave up setting

  • Awesome cover of a great song :)

  • Btw this is a sick cover

  • @whiteninja2006 fuck technique my old guitar teacher always used to try and teach me technique and I hated it, now I'm better than him and the point is the more you play, the better you're own technique will develop

  • Awesome! :)

  • REDSOX .sick cover hells yea.

  • That there is a sexy Wal :)

  • Just stop fuckin trolling about the pick. I'm a guy who normally plays fingerpicking only, but this song is made for beeing played with a pick. Justin does it, TOOLbassplayer does it and even I do it! Great Cover man, keep the great work up.

  • you're missing out on a pretty freakin awesome cover then. and so what if he got one note wrong? it still sounded fine it's not like he just said WAAZZZOOAAAA and smashed all four strings at the same time with all the wrong notes.

  • Great quality, good job

  • by far, one of the best Tool songs. Nice bass cover dude!

  • out fucking standing.

  • Nice. You're missing a few notes out... Check out my version, I'm pretty sure it's 100%

  • Hmm, didnt realise this was supposed to be played with a pick. Thanks for a nice vid

  • Excellent cover, taught me a couple of things anyway

  • whatever guys comment....such a nice cover

  • yes he does and great cover bro! hey just noticed...I don't know what's right but on the last chord of the intro with the pull off I have found that if you play A on the D string instead of the A# it sounds closer to what Justin plays.

  • yes he does and great cover bro!

  • Does the Chancellor use a pick?

  • @rsbudbassit Yes.

  • What pedals do you use in this song?

  • thumbs up for master chef helmet in the back ground to the left

  • the ending is fucking bad ass

  • MAAAAN That Wal bass has such a sweet sound when using a pick. How does it sound when you pluck with your fingers? I imagine a bit warmer with a good mid punchy sound. Great job man.

  • thats really sick man!!

  • at 00:10 aren't you supposed to pull off the string

  • Nice cover dude

  • what DI box do you use ?

  • Great vid. Helped me figure out some parts that were giving me trouble

  • you missed the slides in the opening

  • @cenyan13 LOL

  • @TOOLbassplayer Im serious... well what i mean by the beginning is the main riff.

Look up "tool bassline" and click on the isolated bass track video. listen really closely. youll see what i mean

  • @cenyan13 If you listen to the track it is not a slide but justin's fingers sliding on the strings but not an actual slide note. If you listen with good headphones to this video you will hear i do the same exact thing. Thank you

  • @TOOLbassplayer I do listen with good headphones... haha you arent the only person alive who focuses on perfection dude...

    watch?v=XL4o-_nJvOA

listen to this. the slides i speak of are at 1:20 and 2:01

  • @cenyan13 Dude 1:20 and 2:01 are FAR from "the opening"!! Next time be more specific. I also dont focus on "perfection" as I have better things in life to do, like raise a family. Lastly, you would have never heard those slides until Guitar Hero tracks and we got to hear the bass isolated. The bass in the whole Lateralus album is mixed very low at times and I fell my tabs were pretty good for not hearing isolated tracks. Tell you what, when the new album comes out you can go write all the tabs

  • @TOOLbassplayer well, now you know right?

  • Wow, just like the original

  • What kind of bass do you use? It sounds fuckin sick.

  • @pugspugs123456 are you really asking this? ;)

  • @TOOLbassplayer It does matter

  • @TOOLbassplayer XD sorry. I guess i should read the other comments first

  • @pugspugs123456 its wal ay bro nice cover sounds sick

  • @pugspugs123456 It's a Wal. It's exactly the same model that Justin Chancellor uses.

  • @pugspugs123456 dude for real its a wal

  • @pugspugs123456 It's a WAL MK II

  • sick bass man...

  • I'm in the middle of learning this song, its so frustrating

    next song, Parabol

  • amazing, keep it up!

  • Great cover, my friend is letting me borrow his bass and im going to use this for practice

  • whats the tab for that part at 2:18

  • Dude, how much was that WAL ?

  • @culzo89 However much it was, they're not made any more, so prepare to pay a lot and do a lot of looking around.

  • fucking awesome dude!

  • TOOLbassplayer, do you ever get bored of being awesome?

  • dude thats a sexy wal can you cover the patient and H.

  • nice master chief helmet in the back

  • Dear TOOLbassplayer. First off, your videos are amazing and I've been watching them for years. But when I was listening to the bass solo at the bridge where Justin uses whammy and volume swells that he appears to be using a slapback delay on there too. Your thoughts?

  • @TheShredway He uses a 300 m/s delay and lots of compression and fuzz as well.

  • Master Chief approves...

  • Love the covers,Man.I'd love to do a collaboration with you on either "Schism" or "Sober".

  • nice job!!!!i play this on a fretless gary willis ibanez.thanks for showing the correct notes!

  • you kick major arse brother!!! ;)

  • Duuuude, not bad at all!

Keep up the good work! I want to see you play Triad, The Patient, and The Grudge. That. Would. Be. Sick.

  • Yeah! Im bassist too and i really like the part which starts at 4:03. Greaaaaat!!!!!!

  • I heard that the bassist from tool slaps this song is that true? or does he use a pick for it....

  • @FrankasaurousREX Pick on every song

  • just gonna say this. In my opinion as a bassplayer, I think it takes more talent to play fingers or slap than with a pick.

  • @BMULVTV Definitelly. On the other hand, you can't blame every pick player, some has just style like that whatever it takes. Anyway, check bassist Ryan Martinie and 7sloth on youtube, they use heavy fingerpicking technique wich on Im working atm :D

  • @BMULVTV i agree with you.

  • really good job dude!

  • amazing perfect awsome

  • 3:35 best part

  • I applaud you.

  • dude does that bass have first fret instead of a nut?...totally awesome if it does...creates are more consistent feeling since open notes often sound a tad more full than the fretted notes with a normal nut...unless of course you have a 10,000$ bass lol those all kik ass

  • really nice. how do you get the slight wah effect when you mess with the volume? or is it just altering the volume with distortion on?

  • your's and remi's are the best tool covers !!! amazing sound !!!

  • how much is a wal...i love the tone, my bass just doesnt get that tool tone

  • Thats sounds really nice. is that a 4X10 behind you?

  • ya know, for the longest time, i didnt like tool, but now their definitely growing on me, and this song is pretty much the reason, amazing bass work. love it.

  • nice jobe u think u can send me tabs for the whole song i only know the first part of the song

  • Just saw TOOL tonight in Winnipeg and they played Schism. I love every minute of that show especially JC's bass playing. My first TOOL show too haha!

  • USF!!! r u from here in florida? oh and great cover!

  • Just a tip. Use your pinky >:D

  • @Bandanakid3121 justin doesnt

  • @TOOLbassplayer Its easier >_>

  • @TOOLbassplayer be weird playing schism with your pinky

  • Comment removed

  • @TOOLbassplayer I have witnessed Justin use his pinky in Rosetta Stoned while striking the Chords. I've seen it twice, so I'm pretty sure I'm right. But for anything else, I have not seen him utilize his pinky.

  • @Telephantasssm LOL. Dude I'm not saying Justin never uses his pinky. I am saying he does not use it on the main riff of schism. ;)

I use my pinky plenty in other spots in the song....

  • @TOOLbassplayer It was a joke, it would be absurd for any musician to play without their pinky lol,

  • @Telephantasssm Tell that to Jimi Hendrix, he hardly ever used his pinky. I'm not using my pinky much either, tbh.

  • @whiteninja2006 That doesn't make it a good idea. Using your pinky means you can get to notes faster and without shifting your whole hand. Trying to justify it because musician X doesn't so you don't have to put in the work to learn to use it is inane.

  • @hojima Who cares if you use your pinky or not, if the music is good, it doesn't matter at all how you play it. Technique isn't important; the end result is.

  • @whiteninja2006 Proper technique makes getting a sound much easier and more consistent. I don't enjoy the music less because he uses his pinky, I just take issue with people trying to defend it.

  • @hojima So why are you bothered if someone tries to defend his playing style? Music isn't about how you play it, it's about what you play. So what if his technique isn't "proper"? Music is about feeling, not about following set rules.

  • @whiteninja2006 I know it is about feeling. I just think that it is stupid to defend bad technique.

  • @hojima Fair enough, you're entitled to think what you want, of course. I'm just one of those guys who don't bother too much with technique. I don't use my pinky, but it certainly doesn't limit my playing. It's all subjective anyway. And of course it's playing the way you're most comfortable with.

  • @whiteninja2006 So am I, but using proper fingering is just so basic. It means your straining less, so you get fewer wrist injuries in the long run.

  • @whiteninja2006 it absolutely does limit your playing. feel and your own technique is fine, thats subjective, completely. but fact is fact, and not using one of your fingers will absolutely limit your playing. it's maths.

  • @whiteninja2006 Thats only because Jimi wasnt a professionally taught guitarist ;)

  • Hellava cover. Do you have a whammy ?. If you are faking, you went through alot of trouble to learn the exact fingering, and a few chords. Hell, if you did all of that you might as well play it LOL.

  • damn good job. you vid fills in a lot of spots for me. I am a guitar player casual bass player. been working on this for a couple months and this got me farther than I could have gotten on my own. thanks.

  • badass bro. beautiful bass.

    that was pretty good

  • Yo Brad at 4:04 to 4:34 do you have to Whammy turned on? Because it sounds just like Justin is playing it, and seeing as I am aspiring bass player and Justin is a big influence of mine I would love to know. Because this is a song I have been trying to get down for awhile.

  • @Apperson62490 you can play it without the whammy, Both Brad and Justin are using them. Only if you want to sound exactly like him, but being a copycat is lame. Unless it's a cover song.

  • very very nice job brother keep up the good work nice

  • nice gk rig in the background.

  • ...what about a fake wall?

  • i assumed you got he WAL online. where else could you get it though?

  • Oh, and btw, EPIC WIN on this cover!

  • where did you get the bass?

  • nice hat :) along with bass and skills of course.

  • Digitech Whammy and Bass Whammy - its the same pedal?

  • @SaintNature Nope, they don't make the bass whammy anymore, they go for alot of money on ebay these days.

  • Dude that was filing great! Defanitally one of the best. Would you be able to send me the tabs? Mine are a bit off... I would really appreciate it! Once again, exellent cover, tool are legends! Love 'em

  • I heard this song live this past summer. Justins live tone is way bright almost too bright at times ....Your tone here is better............YEAH I SAID IT.

  • Bravo!

  • Can you say "Flawless Victory!"?

  • pretty sure i have the same exact amp setup as you... that rosetta stoned cover you did with the kid playing the guitar was fucking awesome i listen to that while i do homework :D

  • Awesome cover, but the hat sucks hahah
