I just purchased a used one online...looks like its been away for like 20 years +...is there any way that it would keep the skirt inflated without actually having to keep pressing that buttom down? I also have the green one and it is much more convenient in that aspect...
I have one of these but its the taiyo version, says made in japan, I got it in the early 90s. I also have the original box but neither item is in mint condition :)
hahaha man that's awesome! i had the white one and used it on water all the time
i repaired the skirt endlessly with puncture repair glue and thin pieces of rubber.. worked great. till one of my props broke... then the thing just dissapeared...
I just found mine today at my parents place. I miss the rubber-thing. I've just sent a mail to the manufacturer for spare parts. I'm looking forward to the answer.
I remember a flaw with the first one I bought, when you'd turn on the main button on the craft itself the lift fan would turn on and be on constantly. Had to return it to the store.
no..! then what is the lift button for on the remote?
The fan is not supposed to turn on right when you turn on the craft. I believe the Typhoon II turns on like that. there is another video here showing that. But the black typhoon bag won't inflate until you push the lift button on the remote.
yup. and even if the battery dies or you let go of the lift button on the first model....the undercarriage is made out of foam (inside the skirt) so it will float....but you have to go out and get it.
geez I remember writing a letter to Tyco back in 87, I think it was, to order a new one.. somehow I never ended up sending the letter. I regret it now. Skirts are probably impossible to find now.
it is slightly different than my mini typhoon, and you couldn't turn off the lift motor by remote, but it basically is the "mini" typhoon. mine is also out of commission because of the "skirt", i guess i'll have to find someone who can make one (maybe tyco??)
I had one when I was 11. It was white where yours is black. There's something I never understood: is there a difference in performance between the Typhoon model (this one) and the Jet Typhoon model (the one you can see at watch?v=S9kD8XYHgFw )?
Ive got mine sice about 18 Years. After a skirt failure i didnt use it for abaout 15 years. Now i really regret that! :-(.
It is in a perfect shape. Excepting the skirt. Does anyone know where i can get one? I dont want to throw it way because of a piece of rubber missing...
Mate, loved that, brought me back to the day i had mine!! I had one of these same type, but white. That button on the top was handy to stop in a hurry!! Skirt failure is what killed mine, so make sure you store it with the skirt off the ground, cause where it folds when resting is where mine perished. I see you have the newer model as well, did you ever try the Mini Typhoon? Here in Australia the mini was called a Hurricane Hovercraft. :)
Hello. I never had the mini typhoon. I just wonder how well it works. Mine are just shelf pieces anyway because I like the old tyco stuff sitting around. I never have tried one on water.
No worries mate, i used mine on water twice (in the same day) it wasnt bad, didnt really go as fast, but with a huge area of water to drive it on, it was good fun at that age. I havent looked at a new model like that other one you have there to know what's under it, but with the Typhoon there was only 1 row of holes in the skirt, & the chassis had holes in it, but the underside of the Hurricane Hovercraft had no holes, they were all in the air skirt instead, & im not sure how that'd go. ;)
@redSKORPION50 I also had a white one and the skirt perished in a very short time.. exactly like yours- from sitting on the shelf. It was such a shame because I never got the skirt replaced. It was such a wicked toy!!!! A friend of mine also had the hurricane :) the hurricane if I remember correctly, had one stick on the controller for forwards/reverse, and another for left/right. Rather than the twin forward/reverse that our Typhoons had.
I'll be anxious to take it out to the lake and try it out someday. I may tie a fish line to it before I send it out on the water because be my luck battery would die and it would drift away forever.

@thomas1510 Thats correct, it didnt have the same controls for each fan as the Typhoon did, and also didnt have the lift fan stop button.
