  • Voice of an angel. It may be a cliche, but it's true.

  • Just the smallest of points...but at 1:57 Paul hits the wrong note but manages to recover it before the crescendo ending of this astonishing composition.

  • His voice is like a combination of fergie and jesus.

  • This was one of the last songs my father had my mom play for him before he died. It was his song to her. : (

  • I love this song, art has a voice like an angel

  • If Paul would've grown his hair longer, he would've looked like Jim Morrison a little bit. But, I know The Doors came a little later.

  • @Litterboxer529

    Dear Litterboxer529's mother..

    YOU HAVE GREAT TASTES.

  • What fret is the capo on?

  • @Litterboxer529 7th fret (B).

  • @Litterboxer529 5th I think

  • @Litterboxer529 Fifth fret, so don't fret my friend!

  • @lookouthills11

I think his face in general makes my heart melt, not to mention he has that beautiful voice and the cute little things he does while singing. -3 I wish I was alive then. I'd SO marry him. XDD

  • @AnnaBeatles65 My mom said she had a crush on Art Garfunkel when she was little :D

  • Wow. So young. Oh to live on sugar mountain...

  • That last 'I' in the 'Oh I love you' and that thing he does with his head..

    *melts*

  • @AnnaBeatles65 right there with you lol. my hearts melts

  • On my old computer with my crappy, fuzzy old speakers, this was so beautiful.

  • he sure did love april

  • Happy birthday, Artie!

  • I was born in 1977 and grew up with that wonderful music, because my parents heard it very often. Now it helps me getting through the illness of my Father, hoping he gets some more years.

  • @TheMadb77 i dont know u or what is going on with your dad but as a dad i can say and i pray all goes well

  • @busterateit My father has a 3way Heart-Bypass, one isn´t working, so he has got 2 left, an they aren´t working as they should. More Medication is the result, and that´s why me and my family hope that he has got a chance to get some more years to see his two grand-children grow up. He´s only 62 and still working. He always worked for his familiy, he´s my personal Hero.

  • Paul Simon has never got enough credit for his guitar playing.

  • This absolutely shouts the '60s.

  • My name is Emily, i'd like to think this song was written for me lol

  • @guitar5289 Oh my gosh! Me too! :)

  • Paul was alone in the 9/11 ceremony. Wonder if Garfunkel is OK.

  • @poundandeliot Garfunkel has been suffering from vocal paresis for the last year, which has severely limited his performances. Such a shame for something like that to happen to a man that has one of the most beautiful voices in the world.

  • old videos are beautiful like this. i hate when mix guys clean it up. i love that worn sound, anyone agree?

  • @XxLetsTalkGamesxX

I agree...give me that worn ambient sound any day of the week. Say no to "Mr. Clean" remixes and remasters

  • Art Garfunkel Never gets the credit he deserves for having one of the most beautiful male singing voices in the history of music...OH MY GOD !!!

  • One of the most beautifull songs neve create

  • this song and "beautiful" by gordon lightfoot...about as flawless as it gets. perfection.

  • My parents named me after this song -3 ive been looking for it for years:) beautiful.

  • This is awesome! What year is it from? Thanks for posting!

  • @hootietami 1968 at Kraft Hall on the BBC. You also can search in Youtube for the whole concert.

  • my name is emily :3 simon and garfunkel are my favorite. i saw them for my 11th birthday, i think at the honda center in 2003..and i will never forget it. :]

  • At 49 I realize how beautiful Art was.

  • @cearbhaill He still is beautiful - have you seen the documentary made for the 40th anniversary of "Bridge Over Troubled Water"? It was made not that long ago - the documentary, that is. His voice is deeper now, too...

  • @ellennyc1 No, I haven't seen it, and I don't doubt it.

  • @ellennyc1 I have seen that documentary. It also has a stunning performance of "For Emily whenever i may find her" in 1969. I prefer his young voice though...

  • Paul's mystic poetic lyrics along with his instrumental playing, those two things mixed with Art's captivating eerie voice just simply creates a wonderful song.

  • one of my all time favourite songs fact.

  • King of Queens Season 4 Episode 7 brought me here!

  • @Microglia1, it's not because other artists have done music & lyrics before that pop-rock is not good.

The top 5 composers must include:

    Bach - Mozart - Beethoven - Lennon - McCartney

and I think this song is as melodic than the best of Brahms, Schubert or Chopin.

  • @jujuvivi how about songwriters, combining words with music...Lennon, McCartney, Simon, Dylan, Joel

  • This is one of the best love song Paul has ever written, besides "Kathy's song". Pure and heartfelt. Artie's voice is very beautiful here, the best version of "For Emily whenever i may find her"!!!

  • Just wow.

  • Garfunkel lived this, he walked across America

  • Comment removed

  • Just purely magical. Such raw, other worldly talent.

  • Thank you for uploading this. I love these old television clips by great artists.

  • @spiltsoymilk i think the low quality makes it more majestic sounding

  • good songwriter. Their music feels so innocent and young. It's love without reservation. Even songs of regrets feel like songs of beginnings.

  • @Microglia1 Just saw your comment of a month ago here. It's beautiful and profound. That's part of S&G's charm: whenever something is lost, it creates an opening for a new adventure, a new love.

  • @faaronshreman I read somewhere that music is understood only on level of emotion. That is, you can't rationalize a good song, nor really dislike a bad song, for it could be another person's favorite. For me, the litmus test is how many times I can listen to a song and get a new feeling every time. This is one of those songs. I don't really know the intent of the song writer, but for me this song describes my 2nd grade crush, my high school sweetheart, & girl in white skirt I saw on th train.

  • @Microglia1 For song history, check out the German lieder composers Schubert, Brahms. Hugo Wolf and Mahler. That will free you up from a devotion to low--brain lyrics. In this era, we are hung-up on songs that evoke familiar sentiments. Those masters of song relied on contemporary (or earlier) poets, such as Goethe, Schiller etc., & introduced you to songs and lyrics of great mastery. No matter how good it is, pop stuff doesn't reach that level of profundity. I'm sure S&G would agree.

  • Too bad about the audio quality...but incredible none the less.

  • @spiltsoymilk The audio quality is a lot better than todays monotone compressed crap.It captures the essence of the performance and hall wher it was filmed.Shame for you!

  • I remember seeing this on television when this was first televised in late '67. I don't recall what show it was on though. This is the first time I've seen it since then. Thank you for uploading this. Last year of high school, etc. many memories!

  • @singinjohnny A really nice live television version with beautiful orchestration as well as high quality sound for that period...

  • There is magic in what Simon & Garfunkel did together. We listened to them frequently in the 60's and 70's, and I'm grateful to be able to see these videos. Not only were they handsome -- yes, Simon in the early years was handsome -- and had great voices (and that guitar!) but they brought a presence to the stage when they performed, as fine actors do.

  • John Frusciante

  • @mike987987987 Only Simon and Garfunkel's version being unendlessly better.

  • @mike987987987 fuck yes... although i love the original, frusciante is a genius.

  • @mike987987987 I agree he is the only person who has or could or ever could do justice to this amazing song.

  • Probably one of the greatest song performances of all time.

  • I've heard this song before, but Art's voice just gave me a CHILL down my spine(and I mean that in the best possible way!).

  • I absolutely adore this song. Pure angels! Indeed.

  • Why is the sound maxing out the whole time? Is this the way the source sounds?

  • Not from this planet...cosmic angels

  • lovely.

  • the beautiful lyrics of Paul Simon, done justice by the magnificent voice of Art Garfunkel...doesnt get any better than this

  • @ITILII youre so right ..my daughter is called emily

  • @ITILII

    I agree....

    Garfunkel is almost Angelic!!!

  • @bkeay100 Almost?

  • very beautiful..thanks

  • A melhor dupla depois de Lennon e McCartney!!!

  • Paul Simon was a terrific guitarist but he is such a genius in so many areas it gets overlooked.

  • wow...Garfunklee has a really fantastic voice!

  • I would like to dedicate this to a friend I used to work with in Huntington IN named Kenny Conway. He and I went out for a beer one night and he told me he liked this song. He knew how to make us all laugh at work. He was killed at work unfortunately, just a really cool guy.

  • Genius. Absolute perfection.

  • The sound of an 12 string acoustic that Paul Simon uses here does a lot of good things to this song.

  • Great "live", more than you can say for most bands on the tube ; )..SNG, the REM of their day, only better, dominated college radio also twenty years earlier.

  • If I had a daughter, I was going to name her Emily because of this song. Ended up with only sons though.

  • great

  • I think this is a masterpiece. If God listens to music in heaven this will be the one.

  • Kinda cool how Art Garfunkel can make his voice sound so pure, ya know smooth like water going thru a stream bed with no rocks or barriers to impede its flow.

  • Simply a MASTER PIECE

  • This is my favorite solo by Art. I can't believe the emotion and soul he puts into every word. Kathy's song live by Paul is my favorite by him. My favs as a duo are the boxer, Sounds of Silence, I am a rock, Patterns, Dangling Conversation, at the zoo, etc.etc.etc. I'm 54 and have been listening to them since the mid 60's.

  • astoundingly beautiful.........

  • He looked and sounded like an angel!

  • 555sss i'm 32 and been listening to simon and garfunkel since i was 8 :) I thank my parents for it :) I listen to radio now all i see is darkness ! If i had a wish, is get me back to MY youth :*)

  • Brilliant!

  • You don't see anyone singing like that anymore. Straight from the soul.

  • This is a great song as done by Garfinkel, but my favorite version is by John Frusciante. Check him out.

  • yeah, its like when i was a 20 year old college boy back then. im more than twice that now. purely nostalgic.

  • My best friend was named for this song.

  • What an Enchanting and lovely song. Art Garfunkel has such an amazing voice!

  • This is still the song that stops me dead in my tracks...wherever I am...and takes me to the place where I belong.

  • This song always sends chills up my spine. Simon & Garfunkel are the best.

  • Garfunkels' voice is at its' best here.

  • This song and Scarborough Fair are definitely my favorites from Simon and Garfunkel: two incredibly beautiful songs.

  • @johnredhd Same here

  • the beautiful lyrics of Paul Simon equalled by the magnificent voice of Art Garfunkel, pure magic

  • Okay, I can honestly say that I am a "manly man" and this song gets me choked up. The sound of his voice and the words are pretty affecting. I'm not even sure if affecting is the proper word to use here.

  • This song teached me what love is when I was a teenage girl long ago. It still makes me longing.

  • pasty shop displays ;) :P

  • Great...

Even though the sound quality is poor, look how much views this has, en look at the reactions... says enough about the song, the performance and above all, the talent of these two men that have taken me to the heaven of music...

    Thank you, Paul and Art.

  • All of our talentless, pathetic, modern-day pop stars could learn a thing or 2(million) from these guys.

  • Im 18 and completly in love.

Im making a 6 part CD compelation with various of our favourite songs for my girlfriend. All of them have about 17 tracks on.

CD 6 has only one song on.

    and its this one.

  • Every performance of this song is perfection. Art sings from his soul and Paul's 12-string is haunting

  • They were sent by god. I fall in love with everything around me every time i listen to them. There's "someting" in their music that i can not explain... and maybe i'll never will.

  • Anyone else notice that Paul Simon makes a mistake towards the end (around where Art is singing about "honey tears"?)

  • makes me think of my wife..............

  • I was named after this song. I will be a Simon and Garfunkel fan as long as I live.

  • me and my love cried on the phone last night, listening to this song while we were talking.. 1.170 miles away from each other...well... I believe this is magic.

  • Both genius, Art as a vocalist, and Simon as a writer and musician, yet the combination is the genius that is clearly beyond chance.

  • Art's voice is incredible.

  • ガーファンクルの声がとてもきれい。

  • Oh god, I love this song

  • Fuck....imagine having a voice like this...or David Gates.

  • Damm!! goosebumps..they were one of my favorites!..Paul still is..thanks!

  • Paul...this is the best you have ever written. Art..this is the best you have ever sung...

  • @hopesteadman Thank you for this closure.

  • totally awesome........and thats all there is to it!!

  • I still haven't found my Emily yet..

  • @anxresi That's because, sadly, Emily is jut a belief, as Art has said before. When I listened to this song, I always closed my eyes and pictured the dream, wandering down empty streets, "Emily" running to you, holding hands and walking through fields of juniper and lamplight and then picture waking up and she's right there and then just crying with joy, but now that I know she's not real, it almost makes me sad that that feeling is just a wish.

  • Definitely one of my favorite songs of all time. So strikingly poetic and beautiful.

  • What a dream I had..

  • watch the beginning and see art...now think will ferrell

  • This is one of the most romantic and beautiful love songs ever written! So poetic~

  • Comment removed

  • does paul mess up some of the chords towards the end of the song?sounds like he loses it a bit. still sounds great though.

  • I'm 19 an I like this song.

  • u like dicks kiddy ye? come on? yea come onnn

  • @WildAlaskanBlossom I'm 17, and this is my favorite song of all time.

  • One of my favorite songs of all time.

  • i dont think ive heard this since i was a kid and bought the album for my record player

    nice!

  • So beautiful,it makes me cry...

  • me too and i'm a guy

  • makes me smile, even a guy may cry!

  • Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel are angels sent from heaven to help us rest from pain and misery...

  • @Doud92 that's touching. I always thought Art's voice sounded like it came from angels, or fairies, or some magical, pure place. maybe heaven. This song could be called "song of innocence." because it represents true love.

  • @WildAlaskanBlossom Have just given you a thumb's up. Paul said once that the angel's sang at Garfunkel's bar mitzva. That said, I think that romantic love is an illusion.

  • @Doud92 DONT SPEAK ENGLISH BUT TWO MEN SON UNOS ANGELS DE TRUE I BELIEVE SOBREPASAN LO NORMAL DIOS LOS BENDIGA DONDE ESTEN POR ESTOS REGALOS QUE NOS DIERON

  • @Doud92 What a great statement that is. you couldn't be more right. you must be a beautiful person yourself.

  • This is pure magic...these two are are pure talent and inspiration. I'm 53 and have been listening to the since I was in my middle teens.

  • I'm 50 and I'm italian.............. but when love become a song there's no country but only tenderness and sweetness.....

    franco

  • @555sss So was Sister Andre Marie, my teacher, who introduced me to the beautiful meditative qualities of Simon and Garfunkel.

  • @555sss i'm 35 and thanks to my parents these two have been indelibly linked to my memory. they really are amazing.

  • @Zazalooch Thanks for answering/commenting. There is just something magical ab/ those two. They've had their ups and down with each other. But now I think they've come to appreciate each other the last few years. Such originality in words, melody, delivery. And of course the 'ambience'.

  • @555sss I'm 14 and I'm listening to this . I'll be listening to this when I'm 53 no doubt.

  • @MASAI97 Who fuckin cares how old are you

  • @anonimoitaliano I love you

  • @MASAI97 well said!

  • These two are not of this world! They're from New York... yeah, New York on a planet in the constellation of Lupus!

  • It baffles me how Art and Paul's guitar can overlap so perfectly. It's as close to a perfect song as you're ever going to get. I'll never go tired of this, it's just a shame that the recording equipment wasn't of a higher standard.

  • @Stonemeister Art doesn't play guitar.

  • No kidding... I meant Art's voice and Paul's guitar, but I can see how you got confused.

  • Whadya mean? Course i play guitar. Signed Art.

  • I've always loved the fact that it is "Emily" he is singing to, because my name is Emily too.

  • this is the best forum where elders and seniors can share memories and stories. I believe that this is the best [place where aged people could best express and share, why not a youtube senior share net.

  • One of the most beautiful love songs ever written and beautifully sung, preserving all the moments of young love forever, to remind us of what love is and still can be, as we get older. Many thanks to these two great artists. - salparadise

  • How old was Art here? He looks to be about 18 or so...god, his voice is amazing.

  • @charmingasalways Assuming this was after November of '68, they were both 27 years old...Paul's birthday is Oct. 13 1941 and Arty is less than a month younger, born Nov. 5...At least, that's what Wikipedia has them at...lol

  • Okay I was way off...but this was around 1966 I think.

  • @charmingasalways Look up Simon & Garfunkel - Kraft Music Hall Part 1 of 3 and that's where this clip comes from. Actually, you should see all three parts 'cause they play 5 or 6 songs, and I just noticed that it says it was broadcasted on Jan. 3 '68, so they're really 26 at this point, and that's going off the idea that the broadcast date was life and not a recording from say, 1966 or so. :)

  • wow..where did you learn this?

  • Well, I had saved this video to my Favorites, and I just happened to stumble across videos that were taken from the Kraft Music Hall that I listed below, and I looked their birthdays up on Wikipedia...I'm 24 in March, but I've been listening to S&G since I was about 14...

  • I don't remember how old I was when I first started listening to them but my favorite album was the Concert in Central Park. Paul Simon is great but it's always better when he's with Art Garfunkel.

  • Imo, the best love song ever composed and performed. It evinces so much emotion and feeling in such a few short verses. Masterfully done.
