Most ppl in "the buisness" are critical of Katherine because of her looks and because of the way she dresses. As one lady said " she always has her tits on display". I don't see anything wrong with the way she looks or dresses. She is young and hip. Just because you are a classically trained singer doesn't mean you have to dress like an old woman. And all of her albums have gone to nunber one. And she has been knnighted by the Queen of England. So that must mean she's doing something right.
@goldenthroat86 I have no proof of your credentials while I do have proof of Dame Jenkins credentials. She doesn't claim to be an opera singer. She is a classical music singer. And I know you claim this is Italian pop but, when it was first written it was a country and western song by Dolly Pardon then interpeted by Whitney Houston in her own fashion and that album was certified platinum 17 times. So this is just Katherine's interpretation of this song in Italian.
@goldenthroat86 Dame Katherine Jenkins said it herself in an interview on the BBC. So, are you going to call her a liar or misquided in her career? I think she would know a little more about a mezzo's voice than you would. And the mezzo's you are talking about were their roles leads or just inconsequential roles?
@hughey4870 Denyce Graves is the most famous operatic Mezzo Soprano in the world. She is the most famous Carmen in the world. I am blessed to call friends at least 4 other Mezzos singing lead roles all over the world. They ALL were offered leading roles in world class houses before they were 30.
What more evidence do you need? Are you in the business? Why is it that you won't believe someone who is actually in the business...as opposed to someone who isn't...namely Jenkins.
@goldenthroat86 What a big head you are ,you will be English no doubt .I`1d prefer Katherine to you anyday. Some of the English make me ashamed to be born there .
Bet you could never get the attendences that she does .
Beauty is something elusive and unattainable, it is hyperbole to which man tends without ever touching it, if only because it was touched it would no longer beauty, is a painting by Caravaggio and Monet, is like the Pietà by Michelangelo is like the voice of Pavarotti or Katherine Jenkins.
You are miss quoting me. And you are bringing one of the best tenors in the world to the table to compare his career with hers. I said a meezo saprano's voice isn't matured until they are 30. Therfore they aren't offered operas. And to be considered an opera singer you have to actually have to perform in an opera and be able to carry it. Kathereine Jenkins has done neither. How many years of classical singing lessons have you taken?
@hughey4870 I studied with Tenor Richard Miller...Considered to be the greatest voice teacher of the 20th century. I made my operatic debut at age 24 and went to school with Denyce Graves...today's most famous operatic mezzo. She made her operatic debut at age 24 and had sung in almost all the world's major houses before age 30. I know quite a few mezzo's offered PLENTY of roles before 30. Where did you get that NONSENSE?!? There's no set "minimum age."
Dame Katherine Jenkins is a classically trained singer. She cannot yet be considered an opera singer until she has turned 30 because then her voice will be truely matured and she has to do an opera before she can call herself an opera singer.
@hughey4870 What? Pavarotti made his operatic debut at 26. You don't have to be 30 to call yourself an opera singer...You have to sing opera. This is Italian POP music. The only opera Jenkins sings is the habanera from Carmen. Don't you people know that?!?
@goldenthroat86 Yes well, it is true that Miss Katherine Jenkins has limited herself of true opera, but you must admit that her voice is still enjoyable.
dedicated this song to the one I really loved, wishing him to find all the love that he is seeking for. I will always remember him... it is the most beautiful song I ever heard! Jenkins voice is beautiful but I believe Whitney's voice is softer to my hearing
Our world is full of beutiful things, frome Houston to Jenkins; love in all things that we do for each other. Abundance of gifts and beautiful jestures are endless....God bless all of Us, we who are here.
I liked this song when I heard it sung by its composer, Dolly Parton, about 35 years ago. I liked Whitney's version & thought it was the best until I heard it by Katherine Jenkins.
My wife & I first heard her version on a new CD while driving through the country & we were so moved that we had to pull over to listen to it again. Katherine's version is, by far, the most beautiful. Her vocal range is amazing & her voice is so pure, rich & powerful.
WHile this may be great, Whitney Houston popularized this song, and, even though Dolly had the original wording, the last verse was Whitneys own, and she made the song what it is today.
I just heard this version for the first time a couple of days ago and I've been listening to this song non-stop since. I've become addicted! I thought nobody could top Whitney's version, but this one puts it to shame. Beautiful song, amazing voice!
Ma chi è che dice che le belle ragazze hanno la testa vuota?Miss Jenkins,tu sei l'eccezione che conferma la regola, qualcuna ha la testa vuota,ma tu no!!!
I often think to my self when i listen to opera music that if i could sing like that, i would talk like that all the time it would be hillarious, answering the phone HELLOOOO!
so the fact that she's french, that french is quite similar to italian (similar enough to make us able to comunicate quite easily), that she knows the song already in 2 languages....would not have helped her, you think?
I understood this song to be sung in Italian and went to a online Italian/English dictionary and came up with the following translation - " I love you six" - maybe six is a big number in Italy. Can someone who speaks Italian help?
I am sorry but this song, no matter how beautiful, still does my head in. The song is originally in English she is Welsh. Why in the name of all that is sane and normal is she singing it in Italian?
Her voice is amazing and perhaps she wanted to be different I mean look at how many times this song has been re-released by other people in English, I think she gave it a brilliant original touch, something different to what we usually hear!
As a Katherine Jenkins fan, I am trying to be objective here, but this has to be one of the most gorgeous videos on YouTube, visually and performance-wise. This video is from her "Live at Llangollen" DVD as one of several bonus videos on the disc. I do enjoy her concert DVDs, as she has a very sweet personality in front of an audience. Very lovely woman with a wonderful voice and although not technically a classical opera singer, her mezzo-soprano is very rich and pleasant. Nice upload.
Katherine-Your artistry is beyond compare. You are helping me through a very sad time in my life. My wife of almost 30 years passed away and you remind me so much of her. She was so beautiful like you and had your dimples, and was such a special person. My diary to her includes your video. Thank you Barry
"Fantastic",i saw katherine live at quex house in kent recently, theres not many that bring tears to my eyes but she did, what a wonderful voice...........
WOW! That was unbelievable. I am happy that I heard the other versions first. I like all of them, but Kate's version is dynamic and beautiful beyond words! Etherial!
She has the voice. It is that simple. I respect those that have come before her in this recording, but she blows them all way. She has the voice of an angel.
This is lovely. I sing many types of music from Opera to R&B and was worried that that would be too confusing for people but because of Singers like Katherine I am not worried anymore.
I love this song...we used it for our ballet show dance and and audition. By the end of it all everyone knew the words (although no-one knew what they the meant!!)
So sorry to hear of your loss! This is a beautiful song, sung by a beautiful singer, and the sentiments are so heartfelt. I also am an Alastair Robert - God bless him and you!
Good for her - wish I had good PR and a record deal after music college. As long as she's happy singing crossover, that's all that matters. In my opinion as an experienced classical singing teacher and pro. opera singer, she's a lyric soprano, I just don't understand why she's singing like an old fashioned woofey over-covered mezzo. Who was her teacher at the Royal Academy?
Prolyrictenor, you are dead on! She is clearly a lyric soprano, which explains why she sang "O Mio Babbino Caro" & "Ebben? Ne andro lontana" (transposed) on her album Serenade. On the other hand, she recorded Delilah's aria (Mon coeur). She also sang "Nessun Dorma" on her album entitled "Living a Dream" (I'll say!) So perhaps she's really a female lyric tenor with an exceptional upper register! ROFL Can't wait for her upcoming "Tribute to Jussi Bjoerling" album; I expect it go platinum. ;)
This is my No 1 music video. A superb singer with a beautiful voice (and a wonderful person, too). Also love the dress and the setting for the video. Katherine has actually said she would like to appear in an opera but her voice will not be mature enough until she is around 30. And she still has voice lessons, according to her website.
Katherine you are great. Definitely one of my favourites of all time. I also discovered this great new musician Milica Ilic and I see that a few more have fallen for her charms on this page. I haerc her do Cavatina from the DeerHunter and Evie's Song? on the BBC - my God, she took my breath away.
Naah, she's beautiful. I would say up there with the current classical hottest artist, Natasha Marsh, Ana Netrebko, and the new girl, Milica Ilich, I saw her on the BBC the other day, she is so amazing.
Not interested in the prattle - beautiful woman, magnificent voice, stunning scenery : filmed in the Spanish/Portuguese border town of Alcanatara, Extremadura.
she IS good. technically she's very good. just because she isn't a high soprano doesn't mean she isn't worthy of a record contract etc.
i personally think she's a beautiful person with a beautiful voice. everyone's allowed their opinion, but just because you don't LIKE her voice doesn't mean it's bad.
To all those who carp: She comes over with a nice personality. She has a lovely voice and uses it well. Of course some music may suit her better than others. The same goes for any artiste & artist.Ifyou carpers can do what you do as well as she does, fine, but I doubt it. Criticism is so easy. Enjoy what she gives and if you don;t like it, - putup or shut up.
come on she has a beautiful voice and although i like the creative metaphores redcordial7 i think thats a bit harsh she sounds good and i love her voice its great
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
She sounds good here, but is terrible live! And when she sings for the Welsh in the Welsh National Anthem, she totally BLOWS! Rubbish! She shames the Welsh when she sings our Anthem!
And if your name isn't Dolly or Whitney, do NOT attempt this song! Only they can sing it! Go home Katherine!
Un meraviglioso video: panorama tipicamente italiano , testo e musica splendidi , interpretazione calda , raffinata e morbida sonorita' con italiano perfetto , scenografia e fotografia che esalta l'atmosfera mediterranea ..... Affascinante, e molto brava Caterina !
I think it is the first time for this song to be sung in italian. I have listened to Katherine live and I hate to tell you all but she has used a lot of sound system in the studio for this song. Also she always comes down a Key when singing this song live
This song is amazing. Anyone who says Katherine Jenkins can't sing obviously hasn't heard any decent music in the past. I'm no fan of opera but I could easily listen to this woman forever more. She is wonderful.

Se io restassi qui non sarei come tu mi vuoi
Me n'andrò ma già lo so sempre tu sarai in me

Good for her - wish I had good PR and a record deal after music college. As long as she's happy singing crossover, that's all that matters. In my opinion as an experienced classical singing teacher and pro. opera singer, she's a lyric soprano, I just don't understand why she's singing like an old fashioned woofey over-covered mezzo. Who was her teacher at the Royal Academy?
Prolyrictenor 4 years ago 4

And she still has voice lessons, according to her website.

i love the way she sings it. also heard Milica Ilic do this live and her arrangement was brilliant. anyone know where i can get it?

Katherine you are great. Definitely one of my favourites of all time. I also discovered this great new musician Milica Ilic and I see that a few more have fallen for her charms on this page. I haerc her do Cavatina from the DeerHunter and Evie's Song? on the BBC - my God, she took my breath away.

Beautiful voice, and it looks like she had fun making the film.

Naah, she's beautiful. I would say up there with the current classical hottest artist, Natasha Marsh, Ana Netrebko, and the new girl, Milica Ilich, I saw her on the BBC the other day, she is so amazing.

You really need to make your mind up :S
Shes extremely good
And people may not agree but just do us a favour and keep it to yourself
xsarahxinxsongx 4 years ago
she IS good. technically she's very good. just because she isn't a high soprano doesn't mean she isn't worthy of a record contract etc.
i personally think she's a beautiful person with a beautiful voice. everyone's allowed their opinion, but just because you don't LIKE her voice doesn't mean it's bad.

Sorry, I do like her as a person, but not so much as a singer. Even though I sound like I dont like her.
But she does put on a fake mezzo soprano voice.

Well, Numbers, I've heard her live too..and disagree strongly with your rather insidious, childish, and condescending comments.

Just beautiful. If Barbi was made of flesh and blood. She would want to be Katherine Jenkins
01CheekyChappy 4 years ago 3
I think it is the first time for this song to be sung in italian. I have listened to Katherine live and I hate to tell you all but she has used a lot of sound system in the studio for this song. Also she always comes down a Key when singing this song live

This song is amazing. Anyone who says Katherine Jenkins can't sing obviously hasn't heard any decent music in the past. I'm no fan of opera but I could easily listen to this woman forever more. She is wonderful.

That's why it's better to listen rather than watch. She is so beautiful, but the emotion is in the singing not visual
