  • Can anyone actually find videos from the wicked tokyo cast?

All I can find is videos from the mini USJ.

  • @BlazedHearts um ik im quite a bit late responding to this lollll but no, believe it or not, there was only ONE bootleg of a japanese performance ever. Part of it is featured in this "ad". It's the defying gravity bit, notice how it's at a different angle than the rest.

  • anybody have 29.95??????

  • Elphaba's voice is a little uhm... big...masculine... or something like that.... I hope this can be performed in our country....

  • everything sounds so cheesy in japanese translation.

  • Elphaba's voice is terrible for this role. I don't think there is an actor who can sing like Idina Menzel in Japan.

  • this is really good, i wish i spoke japanese to sing along!

  • wow i didnt know they did wicked in japan soooooo cool they did the whole thing in a different language amazing performance!

  • I would love to see Wicked in Japanese. Must be a cool experience ;D

  • Is there 2 productions in Japan? One at USJ and another one?

  • yes USJ is just a shorter version of it and there is one in Osaka which is the real one with the proper effects

  • if anyone is willing to trade a wicked vid from japan plz PM me

  • they are amazing singers! The girl playing glinda looks perfect! And she really pulls off that blonde hair.

  • oooh yay! i'll be there :)

  • Wow.. I wish we would have Israeli Version of wicked here in Israel.

If i would go to Japan I'll watch it though I won't understand a word.. Japanese is an amazing language.

  • Stephen Schwartz said they are considering a production in Tel Aviv, so you may get your wish!

  • Do you have the full show up for trades?

  • Unfortunately, no, this is the advert from the official Japanese site. :(

If I did, I'd put it up for everyone. :)

  • EPIC!

  • Glinda is so cute

  • Oh man, just saw this on February 22nd in Tokyo, it was so bloody amazing!

I loved the lady who was playing Elphaba at the time. I really wish I would have bought the program. Does anyone know her name?

  • Her name is Hamada Megumi (濱田めぐみ), but now they are having some other girls play Elphaba as well. I bought the program when I went to see it on May 1st, but it does not say who plays who on what day. It might on the website...

  • It could have been someone else. They just gave the name of a new elphaba, her name... i forgot

  • I would so see this in Japan, even though I don't speak Japanese! This Glinda is really good!

  • I was in Tokyo earlier last year, tried to make time to see this, but failed. Seen it once in New York and Three times in London. Adore it. Anyhow picked up the offical cast recording in Japanese, it's great!

  • wow! there amazing!

  • Wow that sounds really good. I would love 2 c it in japan. I would also love 2g2 germany and c it lol.

  • omg. I thought I was gonna cry. WICKEd+JAPAN=AWESOME!!!!

  • @ the curtain call how come the music isnt playing?

  • In many countries (I´m German) the music isn´t playing during the curtain call or after the first bow the music begins to play. ;-)

  • How in time does the clapping sound at the end! Maybe its a japanese thing!

  • HI!

I am searching for japanese musical lyrics (Romeo&Juliet, Mozart, Elisabeth, Cats, Jekyll&Hyde ect.) Plz help me, if you can!

    Thanks: Lione

  • i need hamada megumi melting scene sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Bad

  • I"M TOTALLY DYING TO SEE THIS!!!!!!!

  • THIS IS SO FUNNY AHAHAHAHA

  • how is it funny??

  • Japanese Elphaba doesn't seem very enthusiastic.

  • Actually that would be Erufaba. There is no "l" in Japanese.

But she doesn't seem too excited in DG. But it seems pretty hard to sing in Japanese.

  • Ehh...It's a pretty hard song to sing period, but people have done it. It sounds even harder to sing in German, and the German Elphaba is AMAZING.

  • Willemijn Verkaik is AMAZING. Check out my videos, I have some great audio of the Stuttgart cast

  • at least they got the "Good news" and "Shes dead" in english haha

  • Japanese Elphaba is so pretty.

  • ohh gott

  • This isn't the order in which they play in the show, it's just an edited advert showing highlights, Defying Gravity is still the act one finale!

  • When are they going to release a cast recording!?

  • How they got the japanese language to match so well with the english music amazes me.

  • It matches in tone, but in translation it makes like zero sense.

  • seriously???

    no sense?? at all?

  • When spoken, you can understand but when singing it's not as understandable. But, heh, what are you going to do? The only other option is to sing it in English.

  • actually, it's meant for the japanese audience. japanese grammar is no where near english grammar so if you translate literally, americans won't get it. the japanese audience does.

  • Thanks ^^.

  • スゴイ!!一回見に行ったらハマってしまった。。

  • it amazing how it translated so well to the music, haha, like i dont know what the fuck they are saying but totally see how they did it. Hope the aussie version is this well done... it opens in july and im flying cross country for it. and yesh... they do clap fast

  • やっぱり素敵Σ(ОД○*)

  • I really like it :)

  • Why the hell would I pay $30.00 for a 2 minute video of a bunch of random clips? If I'm gonna pay money, then I want the whole damn show.

  • To be fair, the charge was for the program that converted the video, not the video itself... I didn't pay it, thus the charge. :)

  • Oh. Ok. I see. Did they have the full show up for trade?

  • Nah, I downloaded it from the official website in .rm format. I've not seen a full version anywhere, sorry! I'm still waiting on them to get a cast recording out!

  • do u have a full show of this?? if u do ill be willing to trade u this with a different wicked show that i hav! :) thanx!

  • I second that. If you have the full who, I'd LOVE to trade for it. Message me. And if you don't, someone in Japan (or someone needs to go to Japan) and get a video of it! xD

  • The Wicked Witch of the East LOL

  • The Fiyero is pretty cute.

  • i wonder how japan uses their effect for the flying part of defying gravity

  • its the same for all the productions :)

  • All current productions are almost identical. The hydraulic lift is used during defying gravity.

  • The Elphaba sounds and looks like Eden.

  • Her name is Megumi Hamada, and she was also the Japanese Aida in "Aida" :)

  • I like For Good...

  • eww a japense glinda!

    is dere a japenes OCR?

  • Not yet. The company behind this version of Wicked do lots of Broadway shows in Japanese, and most of them have had Japanese cast recording, so I think there will be eventually.

  • you're right, galinda does look rather strange there

but i guess not all people suit blonde, you should see what a blonde wig looks like on me!

  • Dude, Wicked and Japanese! That's awesome!!!!

  • lol

  • ok....

  • Have you been able to find the Japanese lyrics anywhere on the net (even in Japanese script would be fine, I can read that) - I can't find it anywhere!

  • I've had a good look and I can't find them anywhere. I've found a site where someone has gone to all the trouble of translating the English lyrics word for word, but they're clearly not the same ones. Hopefully, they'll release a cast recording soonish, because they print their lyrics in those. Sorry!

  • Ohh, I'm glad someone else has been sad enough to spend time looking for the lyrics! I also came across the page you just described, but indeed found them to differ from the actual lyrics. No sign of a cast recording yet...hopefully soon!

  • are they clapping in sync?

  • I wondered about that too - definitely sounds like it! :/

  • i dunno - could have just been the recording. however, clapping in sync means "encore" over here in japan.

  • That means "ancor" in japan :)

  • Wow... it's great that Wicked is slowly getting around the world... but I'm not sure how I feel about the lyrics being translated. I think when Stephen Schwartz originally wrote the musical, so much heart and soul went into it, and I think putting it into other languages causes it to somewhat lose a bit of its magic. It's like dubbing a film, it's just not the same.

  • To be fair, translating a song is a lot more work than dubbing a film, as you have to keep the rhythm and meter the same. I think that while you lose some of the idiomatic expressions from the English, you pick them up from the Japanese language. I've not seen Wicked in Japanese, but the same company did Aida, and it was lyrically very good. :)

  • I heard Steven Schwartz worked with Shiki in creating the Japanese version anyways, so really it's still his vision.

  • Do they sing English ? Good news is English!

  • I think it's to do with how Japanese works... the most common word for "news" in Japanese is "nyuuzu" (taken from the English) and the for the most part I think people would understand "Good news" in the context. Similarly, the word "popular" is translated to "popuyuraa".

  • hmmm wth does American way of life have to do with the JAPANESE production of Wicked???

  • They should make a version in spanish

  • no, italian is better. but they even clap insync!! thats so weird

  • Every major language would be great.

  • lol. thats true.

  • The only funny thing about this is a blonde asian woman. Isn't that an oxymoron or something? Still they sound awesome.

  • Why are the Americans in the Broadway one thin?! Isn't that an oxymoron?

  • What? What is Broadway one thin?

  • Megan Hilty, who played Glinda, was a tad bit heavier than other Glinda's, so not all of them are stick thin.

  • megan hilty is so skinny now its kinda sick because i loved her when she was bigger and now she has given into the american standards of beauty... i hope shes not anorexic

  • Half of Americans are fat and half are anorexic.

  • thats not true tho... im not fat, and im not anorexic... its just that some people are more prone to care what people think about them... i mean i really hope that she is doing it the carrie underwood way and is healthy about it but she looked better before...

  • oh.. I see what you mean. It loked like a bunch of giberish at first. But you're talking about the obesity problem in the U.S. which is chiefly due to Americans high fat diet and lazy lazy life styles. Though as it was pointed out, my dear, Megan Hity is a lil' heavy. And I'm sorry but have you ever actually seen a naturally blonde asain? No!

  • You know she is wearing a wig.

  • Duh! You so missed the point of my original comment!

  • Actually, dying your hair blonde is not uncommon in Japan. Pop stars like Ayumi Hamasaki and Koda Kumi do it often. While it does look a bit strange to foreigners at first (since your right, Asians are never naturally blonde), it doesn't seem weird to them.

  • My first instinct was, "Wow, gotta love the blonde Asian chick." xD But you're right, it isn't uncommon, and since many times they don't have dark skin, it doesn't look bad. Numao (I believe that's her name) actually looks quite good.

  • WOAH tokyo, good for them, that's awesome!

  • oh see if they do can u liek email me and all try look for it cause i wouldnt mind listing to it

wish they were gona bring out a london cast with kerri ellis in it

but gess its jst the broadway one with idina :P x

  • oh cna u buy a "OJC" if thts wht u call it original Japanise cast

  • Not yet, but the company who are producing it usually do release a cast album, so in the future you probably will be able to.

  • But theyll miss the funny bits and defying gravtiy i heard it on the vid its jst weird how its been changed but it seems kool but still obv prefer the london cast and idina cause it was amazing when a saw it lawl :P xx

  • The funny bits are all still there, they're just funny in a way a Japanese audience, rather than a Western one, will appreciate. I agree though, the London cast are amazing, however, I saw Megumi Hamada in Aida, and she has an amazing voice, so I dare say she's just as good!

  • Well, it's been translated into Japanese, yes. The company who have done it do a lot of Broadway/West End musical translations. The meaning's aren't exactly the same, but they're close-ish. Sometimes they're made a little more Japanese culture-wise, too.

  • but its in japanise

does tht not mean they changed loads of stuff in it liek the words in the song :\

  • ok im confused is there a theatre in japan doing wicked

  • Yep - it opened on the 17th July in Tokyo, with Megumi Hamada playing Elphaba, and Miyuki Numao as Galinda.

  • I think its the same theatre they beauty and the beast and aida on.
