Dave Detwiler's students have made so many successes and he is probably one of the number one teachers in the world (In my opinion). He has led a few names around to success. Joe Donegan is a freshman at LSU and took lessons with Dave. He is now like the second top trumpet player right now at LSU, as a freshman! Jessica Calvert is a Freshman at Indiana in Pennsylvania and is playing for the DCI drum corps: Cadets.
Okay to danny321321123, TrumpetBoredom is correct. Maynard Ferguson did not play this at all. A guy by the name of Dave Detwiler played this. He was the lead trumpet player for the U.S. Army Blues for 32 years and now is working with Prelude Music and promoting music education. I think i would know this because I take lessons with him right now!!! Not MF... Dave Detwiler
someone plz tell me who this is. i see people saying its DEFINITELY maynard, and some saying its definitely NOT maynard. too be honest some of it sounds too nice to be maynard
Yea, I played this in the 80s in High School. It is Maynard Ferguson's "scream machine" but the chart we had was just called "brass machine"...hot tune!
This song is awesome! We are playing this song in my jazz band, i play the trombone and i love this song. Its amazing, we even play it this fast and it actually pretty easy to, even trumpets like the tempo and ask to push it a little faster even. Overall a great song:)
at like 2:32, thats my favorite thing ever written in the history of music that i have heard. such a cool part. this song is almost as fun to listen to as it is to play.
@onlytrumpet this is definitely maynard ferguson...i've played this and on the sheet music his name is there...its the ONLY name there under composer.
Then don't argue to me about the actual name of the song, when you clearly don't know the proper name of it. It's a trumpet feature, just like what it says on the music. And thank you for proving my point.
@herocko For the most part, you are right, they are the same thing. The difference, and what accounts for the name, is that in Scream Machine the trumpets really do scream. Unfortunately not every trumpeter can hit that range, (like some high school students) so brass machine was made. In the end, however, I don't really care what you call it, it's good music no matter what you call it!
It is Brass Machine. Nobody try to tell me it isn't, because I play this song. I have the solo. So everyone who says it "scream machine" get outta here.
@tiredman628 So you're telling me that Scream Machine and Brass Machine sound the same? If they sound the same, then technically, they are the same song. Just because one song is lower than another, WITH THE SAME NOTES AND RHYTHMS, it doesn't mean they are different.
@herocko No, this is Scream Machine. Brass Machine, what a lot of High School jazz bands play, is an arrangement of Scream Machine written in a lower register.

So, after reviewing both Brass Machine and Scream Machine.....they are pretty much exactly the same....notes and all. Here's the link to prove it.
