I had no idea who Gordon Brown was either. I mean, according to the news at that time, he had JUST been elected Prime Minister. She lives in America, just like I do, and I personally don't know anything about British politics, other than Tony Blair was Prime Minister.

I mean, we are one of the biggest countries/powers in the world, and he's been President for SEVEN YEARS whereas this Gordon Brown guy was just elected Prime Minister at about the same time as the SG Conference. So I personally don't see a big problem with her not knowing who Gordon Brown is.

Hold on a minute, yes, America is one of the biggest powers in the world, but Britain isnt exactly a unknown country either. And yes, he has been president for years (my condolences by the way), but you know what? It doesnt matter abou the time frame- I havent just discovered that fact, I was aware of it as soon as he became president. And Gordon Brown was well known before he became pm as well. Im just saying, such tragic ignorance is kind of worrying.

Not really. She doesn't need to know about Gordon Brown as he was just elected. She didn't have to vote or anything. I'm sure once Gordon Brown actually does something in office and gets out there for publicity, more people would know about him. I mean, I don't really pay much attention to politics in my own country, so I'm certainly not gonna pay attention to other countries' politics. I just don't think it's as ignorant a statement as you're making it out to be.

I'm not saying it's smart, just that she doesn't live there anymore, and hasn't for several years now. Why would she bother to keep up with that stuff? If I moved to a different country, I wouldn't care that much about the politics there or the leader there because it doesn't affect me. I would care about the leader of the country I am living in.

Calling it ignorance is just a bit rude, I think, and untrue. Ignorance just has such a negative connotation to it. It makes it sound like she's going out of her way to not know about it. It's just something she's not interested in, as she doesn't live in the UK anymore, and was an event that had only JUST happened. She was preparing for the SG press conference, so she had more on her mind than trying to know who the next Prime Minister of a country she doesn't even belong to anymore is!
