  • Thanks for this classic piece, I love this long groove...it's a beautiful thing...no doubt!!

  • Billy memang super star deh...

  • If you haven't listened to this at 90 mph...

  • This is indeed a Moog synthesizer drum controlling a synth on the intro. It would have been cool to see it, sticks flying, more than just hearing it.

  • Keep in mind that this entire album was recorded in two days. One day of jamming & sketching out arrangements and then one tracking day.. unbelievable playing with minimal production..

  • the groove that Billy and Leland Sklar throw down is the deepest

  • @StickHammock1 - I agree 100%. Doesn't get much more in the pocket than this.

  • Cobham is so fucking technical it's crazy!

  • intro is awful but the song is awesome !

  • @damienguitar Awww...but the intro sets up the song....I just sit and wait...to bob my head.. I like that it leads me to the deep waters and green moss...

  • Tnx for posting! Awesome album this... one of the best ever :)

  • @soundcrumbs Supreme project! Man, I listen to this album over and over!

  • The great Cobham, sooooo grooooove ... many thanks Aquarianrealm

  • @Drbellotus Welcome.

  • I love this fusion-jazz from the 70's, man!

  • @jeffreygaudreault It is priceless....so much of it still hasn't made it on CD ...

  • @aquarianrealm - actually most of it is on CD. which do you mean? even the more obscure 70s fusion stuff has been on CD since the 90s. i collect obscure 70s fusion

  • This is cool music, man! Better than Justin Bieber!! HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!

  • Cobham is great... and still playing is wonderful as ever. Tommy Bolin was a genius... What a waste!!! Beautiful...

  • Thank you, I've discovered something new!

  • @watertower2100 No m8 , you discovered something old :D .... enjoy :D

  • @FoxIslandman More Moog by Jan Hammer please.

  • @thegerrie19561 That's no Mini Moog. It's actually a Fender Rhodes Piano ran through a ring modulator and a Mutron Phase III pedal.

  • @SuperCartiel - Sorry not quite. No mutron III. No phase. Just ring mod alogn with some turning of one of the ring mod controls by hand (or exterrnal pedal) at certain times to get a sweep going. Besides the mutron III is not a phase anyways, it's an envelope filter. Mutron did make a phase called a phasor II, but that's not on here either.

  • @progjazzfusion OK. But Hammer was using a Mini Moog somewhere on this session, right?

  • @SuperCartiel - yes jan used moog on tracks like Quadrant 4 and Spectrum, but not on this red baron solo. As for the primitive sequencer interludes thru out the album (like this 'snoopy' intro) they were probably programmed on a modular moog by cobham and/or jan, along with a moog drum on certain tracks, a primitive drum pad trigger if you will, that was also used by ELP's carl palmer on the track Toccatta from 73's "brain salad surgury" album.

  • @progjazzfusion Thanks for the knowledge...

  • now thats funky

  • badass!
