The bearings are sealed and the cooling system is also sealed, keel or skin coolers. That type of drive system is all self-contained. Never seen a ships wheel for steering that type of drive system... cool though. Good job dudes!
Better be careful not to run those props out of the water for more than 10 seconds or so, otherwise the bearings would burn out and render the engines inoperable.
Reallly nice machine...large propellers and with four blades! it will pull really hard...I guess this istem was invented by a German company in the 30's...to be used in harbour tugs..not sure.

suck a dick, it doesnt have a rubber water pump like a fucking outboard or stern drive, its still running, i bet this guy has waaaaayyyyyyyy more experience on water then your ass does...
my bad its air cooled engine but still hes revving it high with no load and some drives need water to cool the outer drive bearings and when its dry it can heat up and you suck a dick i work on engines and boat engines too ass
No, Volvo IPS is for high-speed yachts and has counter-rotating, forward-facing propellers. This is a mechanical azimuthing Z-drive system, which is common on tractor tugboats and many big ships. IPS is simply a consumer-oriented application of the same system on a much smaller scale.
Omg azimuth, ideal

whalesforever1 1 year ago
@whalesforever1 They're most likely pod drives
markeyjames22 10 months ago
must be keel cooling

isn't this the WRONG way to run boat engines ??????
pwnage0013 1 year ago
Well.... it may be a raw water cooling system for the mains. Running them for that short of a time is easily ok.

correct me if im wrong...but isnt it bad to run a boats motor outa water?
aydinburton93 2 years ago
only to it over heats if you have a cold motor it wont matter to it gets hot
mater389 2 years ago
Only if it has an open cooling system. This may have a closed cooling system.
RobertGary1 2 years ago
Most diesels run a closed, at least all the ones I have seen run a closed. And those are safe to run out of water for short periods of time.
