does anyone remember when alex harvey played a gorbels hard nut .it was it a drama on the tv in the late 70s i was very young me and my older brother watched it he told me ;that blokes in a rock band .i thought glasgows a place ill never go! good it was though thats why i remember over 35years later any one know what its called??
One of the most brilliant bands & well overlooked for live performances ~ The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.If I remember correctly, this was the only classic hit they had !
As I listen to classic rock stations around the country on internet, it's really cool to hear what artists were played. These artists still have great regional followings. SAHB still in rotation on WNCX Cleveland....good stuff
@jth626 Harvey was from the same City as me.He took a OD in the 80ties.The Beatles used to open for him in Germany, before they were famous. This tracks really really good.Would have loved to have saw them at the old Apollo. Its gone now and so is he.But the music lives on,what a track that was wonderful
@legandrydirk Just a point of clarification - As far I remember and supported by Wiki post, Harvey didn't die of a overdose but had a heart attack after performing at a concert,
@57VCH Some people say the same about Morrison. He died to young,we can both agree on that.Great music The Beatles used to open for them in Germany. Now lots off people would not even have heard off them.I heard there trying to raise funds, for a tribute to him.Glasgow finds it hard to celebrate its famous sons. The times come for a homage to Alex Harvey, and long over due to if you ask me.
@legandrydirk The guy out of Thin Lizzy the singer?Come on mate, where have you been? His name is Phil Lynott, and the bollocks of a bass player as well!
I think SAHB did do the rounds in the good ole Useless of A at one time, but some of them lead cellular lives and they're not aware of anything unless it carries a gun, can be shot, or is black.
Ahem.... erm.... not that I'm racist or anything ; )
Thanks for posting, brings back some fantastic memories! SAHB first band I ever saw as a spotty teenager in 1975 at Pompey Guildhall with The Impossible Dream tour.
You have cost me a bloody fortune as have had to go on Amazon Frenzy to buy all albums again!
36 years on and this still has a freshness and an edge about it and knocks spots off much of the current stuff.
Really appreciate the post and nice slide show too.
This is a superb track and was one of the highlights of the times I saw them way back when I was younger and had hair. Zal and Alex could have quite an intimidating stage presence, which came through in a much more aggressive live style. Definitely one of the best bands I ever saw - RIP Alex, the world and music are poorer for your passing.
Oh man that kicked so much ass! I'd like to see Coldplay, Muse, Snow Patrol, Keane, Aqualung & all these so-called prog/art-rock bands from today try to match the intensity of the SAHB. Today's prog/art-rock is not even remotely close to the awesome prog/art-rock from the classic rock era. Bands like Coldplay et al should be thanking SAHB, Pink Floyd, Genesis, King Crimson, Yes, ELP, Alan Parsons Project, Gentle Giant, UK & all the other greats everyday instead of being so self-indulged.
@bucky468 Spot on. The only people who come close today for me are Prodigy> I think they could have lived with the bands you listed and I am a child of the seventies. I delight in seeing today's kids raving about seventies music because they are so starved of real talent out there today.
|I think the Sensational Alex Harvey Band is gaining fans due to youtube all the time, and desevedly so. but the group without the sorely missed "Sensational" Alex Harvey is however just the "Band".
Thankyou 'Red'.....lovely to know that there is another true believer out there...I'm not that sure exactly what it is but SAHB definately rock my box...I'm waiting to get fed up of them cos I play them all te time, but it just hasn't hapened yet...hopefully never will.
crisp bag...stick with it fella. becoming a sahb fan will be a hugely rewarding experience. I've been mildly, slightly, dementedly pretty obsessed with them since they turned up at 'the Memorial Hall' in Barry in 1974. Alex wandered on and just started talking to the 'boys and girls'; like we had all known him for years.
I was fascinated. I saw then three times more in the following yeras and I have seen the new line up twice....so Crisp bag old fruit, stick in there.' BEST' live band ever.
@streets585 Hi, I saw Alex 5 or 6 times he was amazing, and I think, the most original, bizare band ever, I lived through my skin/punk/romantic days, but nothing, has ever come close to alex, to this day, his music is amazing, and just undescriable. I've seen millions of bands in many times, but TSAHB, will always be way out in front, of unexplainable, and pure whatever
As I've only just 'discovered' SAHB I guess I will have to listen to this song 5 million times before I start to get fed up with it.. then I'll move on to Midnight Moses
Saw them at Leeds Uni about 1975... Best band I've ever saw, even though they were never my favourite. But individually they were great, and they were really unified as a band. Alex was great fun and is sorely missed, but I must say that some of the songs and playing I like the most is on the Four Play album: the Sensational Alex Harvey Band minus Alex. And check out 'Who Murdered Sex' on the Rock Drill album. If this band were around like this today, they'd be huge... And would deserve it!
Für dieses Stück müßte man Ihm ein Denkmal meißeln........als Mahnung an die Musikfreaks von Heute......es gab schon ein Leben vor dem beknackten RAP,HIPHOP Scheiß!!!!!!!!
