Some of the trips that the boat does are fish collection trips. Aquariums collecting tropical fish for exhibits. Normally the trips last for 10 days and I love them the most because I get to go diving. I was on a pleasure dive and we were not collecting and all of a sudden you know what. 70 feet deep feeling like hell in my wet suit but at the same time feeling so alive. It's a wonder to me why or how I stick with my job.
Lately I'm doing well and hopefully you too. The best thing I can ever wish for somebody with our disease is a good night's sleep. I'd like everybody to know that pooping in your pants is cool and if you don't poop in the panties you not cool. I refuse to wear diapers. So I'm the cook on a Research Vessel that goes to the Bahamas for weeks at a time. I have to share the head with many persons. It's a bite. I have a lot of stories to tell, but nobody to tell them to. Please respond...
thats bullshit... from your work, i'm so sorry. i completly understand were your coming from. my first attack from colitis was BAD and it started in a train bathroom, now i refuse to rise trains lol
Not sure what the outcome of this was.. or if you found other work. In some countries, there are laws against this, and companies can't force someone to relocate in circumstances like this. Might be different in the US. If someone is made redundant, then they should be paid out, full stop.
I think 2-3 hours commute for ANYONE is too much.. that's 4-6 hours per day? Nothing beats working closer to home.
i had UC, now i have an ileostomy, the quality of my life before surgeries versus after surgeries is like night and day, i don't have a single regret asking my doctor for the bag, i love it!
2.5 hr commute definitely sucks. If I understand correctly, you're not flaring right now and from what I can tell our general experience with uc is similar. so, no risk of accidents right now. why not try the commute while applying for other jobs? You can spend the 2.5 hours in transit on your job search.
hey, i'm sorry to hear about your job. I don't think commuting 2 and a half hours every day is possible with colitis. I would talk to them about your condition and maybe they will be more helpful
i'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. i can't even work at a regular job, i HAVE to work from home. even with the economy the way it's been, i've been forced to apply for "regular" jobs, and sometimes i could barely make it through the application/interview process. is there any way you could live near the main office? a move is a pretty stressful thing. just stay strong, have faith, and know that even if for whatever reason it doesn't work out, you'll find something even better :)
I don't think Immodium is dangerous fern, you should really discuss that with your GI, it can really improve your life.
Don't resign. I've always been upfront with my bosses about my condition, it has made things much less stressful for me and they have always been great about it if you are a good worker like I am and I know you are.
No, I agree, Immodium is safe if used properly, but if I had to do that commute, I don't think it would be safe for me to take it daily. That's all ;)
I'm still on the fence about telling employers about my condition. In my experience, it just brought on more trouble. But thanks for sharing. :)
they can't force you to resign. either you are layed off and they must give you sum sort of package or you are fired. i would relocate so the commute isn't so horrible.
The benefit to companies for employees to resign instead of being laid off is the unemployment taxes they pay won't go up. Maybe this is why a company would try to force employees to resign? Sorry for your situation, I wish you well.
Unfortunately I am not that familiar with labor laws, I think they vary from state to state. It's probably best to see an attorney who specializes in Employment/Labor Law. Maybe they have free consultations? It's probably a good thing to keep any records of your companies demands, e-mails and such. Poking around the internet it seems there are no laws requiring an employer to give severance pay. If they do let you go with no package, don't sign any release for all future claims.
I'm with you on the adult diaper thing. that would be embarrassing and probably very uncomfortable for a 2 hr commute :(. I just think uc shouldn't take away your dignity besides you are the cutest thing i've seen on you tube. keep up the fight.
F' that, I wouldn't re-locate....I personally wouldn't last 2 freakin hours on a damn train! Plus, I'm a guy...guy's public restrooms are so disgusting. The change of weather from cold morning to warmness riding on a train or whatever alone would make my stomach hurt aswell.

Well, there's a huge difference if you love what you do :) So I guess it makes it bearable.
I hated my old job and it just made me sick. The pay wasn't that great either.

that's exactly the same way I feel...but it really depends on your boss, but still, it's a gamble.

Also, if you voluntarily leave employment you may not be eligible for unemployment compensation.

Check your employment contract concerning relocating jobs; you may be entitled to some severance money if you leave.
You could try agency/temporary work until you find your dream job.

what i do, I take 3 imodiums and suprisingly, it works... Don't have to worry about commuting long hours..
plus don't eat a big meal the night before, and for breakfast, just don't eat.
earlofthewest 3 years ago
I don't think colitis patients are supposed to be taking imodium.
And even if i could, I think it would be dangerous to be taking them everyday.
fernpixel 3 years ago
Immodium is ok, BUT then you might start relying on it everyday like I did...plus, you can get bad constipation and get bloated.
LiberatedMindsTV 3 years ago
I just don't think its safe to take every day. I think I remember on the directions it says that it shouldn't be taken more than 2-4 days.
I don't want to misinform anyone (None of us are doctors here :P) Anyone reading this and considering taking Imodium, please talk to your doctor.
