Another Amazing performance by Janis Joplin here..holding her own and then some is putting it mildly ...Yes, Tom has a strong voice but I prefer her Soulfulness that seems lacking with him ..Janis on the other hand as you can see and hear feels that soul within her and can express it with more truth....xo
jones charisma is built around 2 facts: he had the goods & knew it & he really enjoyed & respected music... both show here. though joplin's music wasnt his typical material, he nevertheless liked it & had the talents to pull it off. he compliments joplin also b/c he repsects her talents. its why he takes 2nd lead here & lets her do her thing, yet compliments her groove w/ his own talents. hes having such a good natured relaxed time here. great clip.
of course you are perfectly aware that there is a whole lot of people out here that cold not speak, let alone read japanese to save their lives, aren't you?
I would dare say nearly everywhere oustide Japan, though I know there are many Nissei groups in different countries, (Brazil comes to mind), most of the world will not be able to understand the message here.
I think Janis was different with each of the bands she was with during her short career. BBHC was obviously her beginning, she was less controlled and had much more "hunger" for the fame. Kosmic Blues, was a pivital band for her because the horns were incorporated and she grew somewhat. This was also the beginning of her being clean from heroin. Full Tilt Boogie was her most musically mature and the Pearl Album reflects that. She was doing really well, and then unfortunately she relapsed.
Ah Janis,if only we could have you back,it seemed so perfect!Still we can glimpse and savour the memory but we cannot live in the past , just be oh so grateful for the time we had together.With hope in our hearts we must seek out new soulmates and when we find them,as w surely will,take great care of the treasure within every human being.Remembering,All humans are fragile and have a time limitation.We are all mortal
I saw this live way back then on Tom's variety show. I never forgot how much I enjoyed the duet. It is absolutely awesome to be able to see this again after all these years! Thankyou over and again for posting this video!
Wow!
This is classic.
I don't recall it.
I think I was on my way to VN.

from japan

Sam Andrews, what a guitarist! I love her work with them the best.

Big Brother were the shit because of Janis.
Janis was at her best in the BBtHC-times, though, and Big Brother should get some credit for that.
