  • lol Dr. Seuss is the narriator

  • Real hip-hop, not hip-pop

  • Rock on Dj Kool Herc, keep it real!

  • @HeavenForYourEars THANK YOU!

  • who knows the beat at 2:18-2:30?

  • Great, Now that he had a spot in the Yelawof song, all these kids are gonna come and ask who he is.

  • so kool herc started rap?

  • @nEmRoD213

That's not the whole truth. He started as DJ and repeated the beat of some Funk and Soul songs. But yes he is a Hip-Hop legend and has contributed to the emergence of hip-hop. The same for The Sugar Hill Gang, Grandmaster Flash and Kurtis Blow.

  • So happy for him and hip-hop that he survived through his illness

  • hipHop is a culture, a way of life that umbrellas rap, artists we know today as lil wayne and eminem and the like are a part of that, what you see in this video was hiphop in the 1900's, so called 'commercial rap' today is hiphop in the 2000's and beyond. Deal with it.

  • Amazing how eminem and lil Wayne can score millions of views and people will spend all day arguing about who is and who isn't hip hop.

    This is hip hop.

Who in the mainstream so-called hip hop (which is just generic pop) embodies this spirit?

  • 50 cent commercial? R u livin like 5 years back? hahahahh

  • This is real rap no the comercial shit(50 cent, lil wayne, eminem)

  • @Nick2TheGame It's called evolution, dumb ass. If rap stayed like this, it would be dead by now.

No music is the same as when it started. No doubt Kool Herc is real. But even if (Somehow) he lived until now, he wouldn't be rapping the same way he did back then.

  • @Wishwehadfans isnt kool herc still alive?

  • @omnw123 Yes he is I'm his agent. :)

  • @Wishwehadfans Hiphop was tainted and thats what it needed so that people wouldn't get tired of the REAL hiphop shit. If music didn't turn out shitty with the likes of lil wayne and them then people would be tired of stuff from back in the days. but the new shit is what keeps the old shit real

  • @Wishwehadfans He is still alive and he never rapped dumb ass.

  • @RIPOldSchool96 Dude, shut the fuck up! Kool Herc was the FIRST rapper!

  • Comment removed

  • @Wishwehadfans fyi your wrong he wasn't the first rapper he was the FIRST DJ, the first rapper was "Dewey "Pigmeat" Markham"

  • @RIPOldSchool96 He was the first DJ Retard

  • @Nick2TheGame too bad this is hip hop

  • @FallenSkater044 I know, but the rap is one part of the hiphop :)

  • @FallenSkater044 ass hole, this is the father of a big culture....u have shit in the head?..

  • @Nick2TheGame Lol but this isn't rap. Kool Herc wasn't a rapper, he was the founder of hip-hop. Rakim, Kool G Rap, Nas.. those are rappers.

  • @Ridgehood2988 he wassnt a rapper he was a dj AND an MC and THE FATHER of hiphop

  • @Nick2TheGame eminem is commercial shit?! he's one of the best rappers ever!

  • @Nick2TheGame well i agree with 50 cent and lil wayne but the old school eminem wasn't comercial at all,

  • i can't believe 12 faggots hit thumbs down. Herc owns your soul!

  • The narrator's rhymes remind me of Dr Seus.

  • School

    Six

    Crappy

    Hours

    Of

    Our

    Lives

  • @GangstaMickel You better make the most of those crappy hours, they'll be some of your most memorable.

  • Malcom really is a parasite

  • Rhyming narrator.

  • he is jamaican :D

  • bless our father, DJ Kool Herc!

respect from Romania! thumbs up rappers! yeah

  • i like how those blackspade guys and grandmaster flash used to dress in leather and spikes. today its only done by goth/punk/metal fans, but it all started for the same reason. listen to saxon's song from 1980 called "street fighting gang" and compare it to old GMF. it's the same idea expressed in a different way. it's like pete steele from type o negative once said - " thrash metal is urban blight music; a pale-faced cousin to hip-hop".

  • I say every hip hop artist gives an amount to this legend. Makes sense doesn't it?

  • "pointing out a very real truth- that the movers, shakers and creators of hip hop came out of the west indes... if anything hip hop is a jamaican art" - KRS ONE

  • the real hip hop, before these new boys screwed up the entire genre.

  • @Khuselo stop blaming these young artists for "screwing up the genre" remember they would not be famous or popular if it wasn't what the majority of consumers wanted to hear. it's not the artist but the consumers that hae changed their tastes and views. hip hop does what the people do

  • @Khuselo "People talk about Hip-Hop like it's some giant livin in the hillside comin down to visit the townspeople We (are) Hip-Hop Me, you, everybody, we are Hip-Hop So Hip-Hop is goin where we goin So the next time you ask yourself where Hip-Hop is goin ask yourself.. where am I goin? How am I doin? Til you get a clear idea So.. if Hip-Hop is about the people and the Hip-Hop won't get better until the people get better and the.

then how do people get better?" MOS DEF

  • This song go hard check out Crack City DVD channel

  • What's Malcolm Mclaren doing in this video...

  • @Stewpa2000 mclaren is an attention whore but he was once a connoisseur of underground/counter culture. i'll give him my respect. i think he understands it.

  • i was in a Newyork club with Herc last night, & Melle Mel : )

You say Hannah Montana-i fucking punch you in the face

92% of teenagers have turned to New school and Pop.If you are part of the 8% that still listen to real music, copy and paste this message to another 5 videos. Don't let the real rap die!

  • Aiiyo, Kool Herc was interviewd for the book "The Record Players, DJ Revolutionaries" Real dope book if you into DJing, its history, or juss the music in general.Drops lotta knowledge and interviewed an extent of classic DJs that revolutionized music. "Grandmaster Flash, DJ Shadow, Jimmy Savile. Afrika Bambaataa, John Peel." Just to name a few. For real, go check it out or buy it, can get it from Amazon.

  • @OzBoomBap86 A Hip Hop Culture.

  • R.I.P. Malcolm...

  • @heteromies1 Totta!

  • @heteromies1 Kool HERC (at least spell his name right) wasn't a rapper. Go away and do some reading..

  • how can you not like this

  • lol the narrator is so stereotypically 80s

  • This is real hip-hop. I believe every rapper (professional and unsigned) should watch this video.

  • Why is Hip-Hop the only music where there's so much bitterness towards other artists...... You wouldn't see Coldplay saying to U2. "you ain't real" blah blah.

Everyone has different styles and different tastes. One day I might listen to Common, next day I might Listen to weezy. Then Jay Electronica, then Some old school 90's hip-hop. Then I might fancy some 80's breaks. Then I might be in the mood for Drake! Then I might listen to some fucking classical! Why does everyone have to be so rigid w

  • @Dplaysitcool different styles and tastes? LOL thats like saying there no difference between good and bad hip hop....everyone has to be rigid because were sick of the trash thats being produced and doing a disservice to the genre, creating stereotypes that arent true, bad and shallow beats, terrible flow control, and the generic notion drugs, money, cars, and sex, the standard commercial subject matter for the past 10+ years.todays hip hop is the reason why no one can take it seriously anymore

  • 6:15 globe & whizkid - play that beat

  • Love this man. Father of double H.. This is real hip hop.. Hate damn kids who think that lady gaga is hip hop, that hip hop are bitches, cars, naked asses, money.. it makes me laugh but it's sad..

  • @sivusek93 who the fuck has ever described lady gaga as hiphop?

  • @sivusek93 ahahah lady gaga as hip hop LOL

  • can any body tell me what this is from? is it like a documentary i would like to watch the whole thing

  • @laxel01 Beat This!: A Hip Hop History

  • Most kids today think that rap was invented by Jay-Z or Run DMC and that's just sad.

  • Long live Kool Herc, the Father.

Peace from the UK old school.

  • I miss the realness in today's Hip-Hop. Rap is much more than platinum and gold...aiiight....=o)

  • Dj kool herc needs help and the big heads in the hip hop community is not helping him at all. It is sad that they would invest their money in cars, clothes and hoes but wont help pay dj kool herc who is a major part of hip hop history with his surgery and medical bills who have giving us real hip hop. I wish I can help!

  • what song is that at min. 2. is it space cowboy?

    Jonzun Crew - Space Cowboy

  • big up kool herc big up to izolag for this post and fuc lil wayne eat a dick and die slow real hip hop for ever

  • Peace and love to Kool Herc and his family. I gave ca$h....did y'all?

  • Damn why did they get Dr. Seuss to narrate? Anyways hope the King recovers.

  • Get well soon Kool Herc!

  • people STILL complaining about Lil Wayne???...STFU...he's still gonna sell platinum albums...and he's still gonna be rich at the end of day....and if "hip hop is dead", where are the artists thats supposed to keep it alive???...WTF are they doin'??...

  • @DipsetSkullGang10 Dude, if you think that music is about making money, then you're just an ignorant dumbass. Yeah, he might have millions more than others, but he'll never get the same type of fame, respect or talent that real hip hop artists had before him. Why d'you think he's critisized all the time?

And Hip hop ain't dead yet. If you actually took the time to do some research, you mind find out a thing or two about artists doing some really good stuff nowadays.

    Peace.

  • @TheREClan83 how am i ignorant??...i dont really think people would be rapping if they wasn't gonna get paid for it...and what's your definition of an "real hip hop artist"??....i mean selling 1 million first week is not enough to get respect??....what else does he have to do??..he has grammys...i just think people dont want to embrace the new generation of hip hop!!!...and wat artists are u talking about???...i listen to alot of unground also...like curren$y, XV, nujabes, vado, bizzle ect etc

  • @DipsetSkullGang10 Real hip hop artists are artists who have a message to pass out, who have actual talent. Lil' Wayne? I think anyone can line up a few words that rhyme and distort their voices. And what does selling good have anything to do with respect? If he sold good it's because he had the sufficient help from business dudes. And if no one on wants to embrace the new generation, it's because there's no originality, not much talent. For the artists, go check out Binary Star, or Cyne.

  • @TheREClan83 i listen to cyne..actually my favorite from them is "running water"...and i'll check out binary star!!...j.cole & charles hamilton is also nice!!

  • @DipsetSkullGang10 u're hilarious, bravo. If you are troll i salute u, if not, lolzercops. I don't think people started rapping with money in mind. I rap so shitty to beats my friends make battling over them for fun and shit. When shit becomes about making money then thats what u're listening to, something about money. That shit is boring really, and if thats your only goal in life, thats pathetic.

  • @Masterpeewee what exactly are u talkin' about??...

  • DJ KOOL HERC BABY !!!

  • Hope he gets well, these millionare sellout "rappers" better donate

  • sometimes i wish i was born in the 60's

  • Hope this guy gets well soon. The father of hip hop will live on!

  • Lil wayne said he's the best rapper alive yea right he cant even talk what makes him think he can rap

  • Man, this guy is so cool. This is the first time I've heard of him but I'm lovin' it. This is the true father of hip-hop, about bringing post civil rights 60s and 70s and rising up the whole community ...and rappers today are really talented but NONE of them are as cool and nice as this dude and it makes me wonder if any of them even know this story or how they got to be where they are. Props, Kool Herc. You da man!

  • Thats why i maintain,,,,, a little of tha old scholl and some creative skillzs

  • No problemo,, JONZUN CREW - Space Cowboy ,, 1983 golden age of boogie and hip hop old school

  • Had to check out who Herc was. I suggest reading the book Last Night a DJ Saved

  • 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx is the birthplace of hip hop. 1973 in the projects

  • KOOL HERC I THANK YOU FOR THE BIRTH OF HIPHOP....IT'S GOING OVER 40 TEAR AND IT AIN'T GONNA STOP. HipHop is my First Love...."SO DIOR" FEMALE RAPPER

  • Every child in school should be required to watch this.

  • @DJDrSciFi indeed!

  • @DJDrSciFi In belgium we actually are XD

  • or at least told that it exists

  • now this is a true legend too bad he never got paid like these whack ass mc's now a'h days

  • I'm sick of you clowns , you think you can improve Hip Hop by cursing out the current generation , why don't you open a studio ? why don't you start a label ,? why don't you buy the records of all these artists you proclaim as real ? or are you just going to rant on Youtube lay the blame with Lil Wayne and soulja boy and claim your reppin the cause .... That's not Hip Hop , like dude said on Wildstyle you got to go out there and rack up

  • Comment removed

  • people need to know their roots and give Herc their respects. It's sad a lot of these rappers from today don't pay respects to their history

  • @crazykings50

You have to know your history to pay respect to it. Mainstream rappers these days have no understanding of hip-hop's origins, and it's not really their fault if they're not from the NYC area. Rap is pop now. Rap and pop songs sound exactly alike, tune your radio into any Top 40 station and you will hear rappers on pop tracks and pop singers on rap tracks. Be happy that we are part of the select few who understand hip-hop, we should cherish that fact and never let the art die out.

  • wayne lil a whatta f his name is ?

  • Great history but the narrator is corny as hell.
