Here is why it took so long: The system had to absorb the latent homosexuality from all the wrestling fans around the world. Since they all argue that they're not gay, even though they are basically watching a soap opera where the men strip, it takes some time for all this pure man love sauce to be absorbed by the game. I'd say six and a half minutes is pretty impressive in that regard.

Wow. As a Nintendo DS owner, I can say that this is bad. And to think I found the loading time for Luminous Arc on the DS to be too long ('bout 30 sec. before I can get into the game).

As somebody else has said, I was thinking of getting a PSP, but I think I'll pass. Even hearing that "most games take a minute to a minute-and-a-half to load" (which is about 3 times more than the longest loading time I've seen on the DS) doesn't seem encouraging. :)

Most of the PSP games I've played take, say, a minute to a minute-and-a-half to load? And once the game's loaded, you can just put the system to sleep, so you can resume without having to load it again until you switch games.

That's not it's speed... it's just that the PSP hasn't cleared it's memory yet. Early N64s had something like that- Banjo Kazooie was going to be able to communicate with Banjo Tooie by having you switch the cartridges before it cleared the memory. However, revisions made the N64 clear it's memory faster; it would take inhuman reflexes to switch the cartridges.

Cases like this one are quite rare. It's unfair to judge the PSP after you've watched this clip. GTA: Vice City Stories has a very short loading time, and with PSP Slim it's even shorter.

Aha. Well, Sony is actually expanding the selection of genres for the PSP with for example Exit, Loco Roco and Lumines, so there are some titles to choose from. Developers in Japan are experts when it comes to make non-GTA games so to speak.

I guess you're a DS person (nothing wrong). Personally I don't like DS (or Nintendo in any way). Don't get me wrong here, I'm not a hardcore hater, but Nintendo is just selling squels to every game they sell and games that I don't like, so they're not quite my type. Well flatronl I guess I'm the reverse in some ways. Aside from the PS2, the PSP and PS3 do not interest me in the slightest. Also, Nintendo have been around the VG business a lot longer than Sony and do have a lot of long term franchises, however I would never dream of asking them to suddenly stop making the next sequel as long as the series is still good.

The DS does have loading times. It's not always noticable or even announced, though.

DS carts are different from older carts - they're not 100% accessible all the time, they're more like a storage device, like a flash card you would use in a camera. The only part that's loaded into the memory initially is the binary (the program itself) and the rest is loaded from the card as needed. Some games just mask the loading times better than others.

No DS game has load times this horrendous, though.
