My name is Jason and I am a student at Western Michigan University studying Religions of The World. My explorations in religions of India have lead me to the following question about Hinduism:

Preference for certain deities is somewhat caste and profession-linked among Hindus. When matching up the deities with the Indian social divisions, which deities do might go with which groups, and why?

Mainly I am concerned with the Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Kali, and Lakshmi.

@TheSdz7424 well, jason I'll tell you from what I know, and my perceptive. Different parts of India and across the world, the people had their own local deity. The main ones are Shiva, and Vishnu worshiper. The south is mostly Shiva temples, but Vishnu worship is also big. If you go to the west of India, Kali is the main deity... even inside certain sects they pray to gods in different forms when them came to earth. Like Krishna, and Ram who are the same, and Shiva came in his own form.

@TheSdz7424 hinduism is an evolving philosophy. caste system is being rejected by todays hindus hence your question becomes irrelevant. hindus believe in one god and its several manifestations or avatars. eg most hindus see jesus as one of the great avatars. any hindu ( of any caste ) can pray to any god he believes in with faith. it does not matter. i repeat caste system is being rejected and will soon be banned in india. peace to humanity.

But as a christian, I will not starve to death knowing that a 500 pound cow is sitting in the field outside. Yes we can learn from your religion . @mweagle777 I think in Hinduism these statues are not the God. There is only one god according to them too but you can worship him in any form. They say for the less spiritual who can't concentrate on that formless god, this serves as a focal point.

Hinduism should be a model for all other religions on how to have different religious currents, ranging from materialist philosophy to devotionalism, living together in a single, open system without religious war or bigotry. Why? there are 25million christians in India the vast majority are not subject to any attacks because those attacks were isolated and had a lot more to do with long standing tensions between tribals(Kandha tribes) and immigrants (panas) over local resources. Do you think about Christian violence towards Hindu temples and people in Fiji and Trinidad??? I really dont think so.

To the Christian missionaries and people: This ain't da place to preach! All religion teaches good things! So don't proclaim Christ is the only way to God! There could be many ways to reach a destination! In the same principle there are many faiths that lead to the same God and it depends on how u practice ur faith!
