Maybe its just an american thing? I live in Aus and I LOVE weddings! Lots of booze, we have good food and of the 25 weddings I have been to not a single one of them had the chicken dance or a conga line
In the US we're often expected to attend weddings of people we only know though bosses, coworkers, etc. Sometimes it's hard to enjoy a 7 hour event when you don't know the couple and their families at all. The chicken dance is only fun when you're watching the dorky friends you've know since age three or your 84 year old grandma do it. When you don't care about the people it's a drag, unless your a serious party person.
The majority of Americans keep everything family/friends but some others feel the need to invite the entire world to these kind of events whether the guests want to go or not.
I always called the chicken dance the bird dance. Still, it's a pretty bad dance. I remember being at a cousin's wedding once many many years ago. It sucked. Also, I don't like how a lot of the vows in weddings seem really old fashioned. Like, pronouncing people "man and wife". That line always seemed stupid to me. Like, what happened to liberation of women's rights in the '70s?

I owned a catering company and did (what seemed)a zillion weddings. No matter how much money is spent, they are ALL the same. Brides/mothers fighting for months about colors, chicken or beef, sit down or buffet? aughhhh...the MUST HAVEs and MUST DOs and MUST INVITES and the OUTFITS and cake in the face and the dollar dance and the photos of the hands (and the necessary ROCK) and bad dancing.

Ahh, alas I've never seen the A&E mini-series version. I was referring to the new version with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. Others have told me to shut up and watch the mini-series. But anyway, I love that movie. Watched it in the theatre twice and bought it on DVD where I think I watched it every day for a week...I'll have to check out the A&E mini-series.

One other thing you've got to remember, the reason we wedding videographers always get the same exact type of wedding over and over is because it's always the same sort of folks who hire us. Put an ad up in the local truck stop for a wedding videographer. Advertise your rate as "$100 plus my beer tab" and you'll really get some interesting calls! LOL. And yes, I had to subscribe. Great stuff!
I FEEL YOUR PAIN! I made a policy in our videography business a while back never to do weddings for family or friends anymore. They always expect to pay half the price and get twice the service. It's not worth it. But hey, count your blessings: If you were a videographer up here in Minnesota, your receptions would be one part tacky rap music, one part stupid cliche wedding songs, and 6 parts polka. You thing the chicken dance is rough? I once taped a wedding with a live accordion! Augh!

OMG those dreadful weddings! My husband and I got married in a wedding chapel in the Smokies...no best men, maid of honor...any of that crap. Then everyone went to a tiny bar in Gatlinburg and ate burgers, drank beer and listened to some good live music. I couldn't have asked for a better day! Great vid!
So you're in the wrong business Katie! You should be a really cool wedding planner instead. There are plenty of other people out there I'm sure who hate cookie cutter weddings as much as you. I'm one of them, I'd rather skip the wedding altogether.
You have to agree that the money is GREAT though. I used to photograph weddings, I could make more money in 6 hours than I could in a whole week at my regular factory job. I finally gave it up after I was dragged into small claims court twice for brides claiming that the photos made them look bad. If they ween't such fat pigs, maybe the photos would have turned out better. A few bad apples spoiled it all for me. I had to give it up.

I hate weddings...I can't stand them...I have been a groomsman in a couple of them and I hated it...bachelor parties have the potential to be fun, but weddings suck...and don't get me started on wedding pictures! TORTURE...a never ending amount of poses...same lame poses! I encourage everyone to elope or go to the justice of the peace...save your money! don't fall into the wedding trap!

THIS, BY FAR, WAS THE MOST INTERESTING VLOG. Loved the music video part.

marquisdejolie's comment about funerals. Hmmmmm! I would pay money to see what you would do with it. Personally, I would be greatly tempted to d something along the lines of Michael Jackson's "THRILLER". Would that be cruel?

Very difficult, but it was my wedding gift. Most of my pictures were good.

Well, the fact that it seems to be about separation and loss makes it a bit of a weird selection for a wedding, but everyone hears what they want to hear and even the worst dancer in the world *cough*dad*cough* can dance with his daughter. Ahh, alas I've never seen the A&E mini-series version. I was referring to the new version with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. Others have told me to shut up and watch the mini-series. But anyway, I love that movie. Watched it in the theatre twice and bought it on DVD where I think I watched it every day for a week...I'll have to check out the A&E mini-series.

One other thing you've got to remember, the reason we wedding videographers always get the same exact type of wedding over and over is because it's always the same sort of folks who hire us. Put an ad up in the local truck stop for a wedding videographer. Advertise your rate as "$100 plus my beer tab" and you'll really get some interesting calls! LOL. And yes, I had to subscribe. Great stuff!

I FEEL YOUR PAIN! I made a policy in our videography business a while back never to do weddings for family or friends anymore. They always expect to pay half the price and get twice the service. It's not worth it. But hey, count your blessings: If you were a videographer up here in Minnesota, your receptions would be one part tacky rap music, one part stupid cliche wedding songs, and 6 parts polka. You thing the chicken dance is rough? I once taped a wedding with a live accordion! Augh!

OMG those dreadful weddings! My husband and I got married in a wedding chapel in the Smokies...no best men, maid of honor...any of that crap. Then everyone went to a tiny bar in Gatlinburg and ate burgers, drank beer and listened to some good live music. I couldn't have asked for a better day! Great vid!

You have to agree that the money is GREAT though. I used to photograph weddings, I could make more money in 6 hours than I could in a whole week at my regular factory job. I finally gave it up after I was dragged into small claims court twice for brides claiming that the photos made them look bad. If they ween't such fat pigs, maybe the photos would have turned out better. A few bad apples spoiled it all for me. I had to give it up.

I hate weddings...I can't stand them...I have been a groomsman in a couple of them and I hated it...bachelor parties have the potential to be fun, but weddings suck...and don't get me started on wedding pictures! TORTURE...a never ending amount of poses...same lame poses! I encourage everyone to elope or go to the justice of the peace...save your money! don't fall into the wedding trap!

Oh those poses. I think being a wedding photographer is worse. Although, they can just print up the pictures and put them in a book. I have to spend weeks editing their "special day". I agree...keep it simple. Don't fall into the trap! :D

you'll be happy to know my parents were married on the side of a cliff with 4 people present, had brunch someplace, and my mom and her friend made their own cake. Oh yeah, and mom's dress was a graduation dress.
