I have a tesla roadster, worst unreliable car ever built. Its quic off the line, but afterwards it slows down alot. TESLA ROADSTER SUCKS!! the resale value is so poor its not even worth it for me to sell it. If you want electric and something reliable that won't break down on you every day, get a Nissan Leaf, not as fast, but hey you know it will get you home.
Kudos to the chumps at Tesla for taking the petty route, bringing a suit against Top Gear for what THEY consider libel. The most ironic part is that this ridiculous accusation demeans their name more than Top Gear ever could have. Google "Tesla Top Gear libel" and find Top Gear's response for the real story
The time has come for Free energy to be revealed ,But Elite controllers don't want ppl to be free from the costs of energy,Go to LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM and get the blueprints for a genuine magnet motor ,Join the energy revolution!
I LOVE TESLA.....saw one on the road in Farmington CT had to follow it didn't recognize the name on the trunk..When I got home had to google it....wish I had talked with the driver hope to see another...Anyone willing to buy me one?
it does, when driven like an absolute maniac. Its the same as any car, if you drive it very aggressively, you run out of gas(or battery in this case) very quickly.
Nicola Tesla was greatest electrical genius the world has ever seen, he was a unknown person to americans as from Yugoslavia and died a poor man. he would not have been surprised by the technology of this car today. As in his blue print {which are in USA} show he would of extracted electrical energy from pure air.
if you add a tesla resonant antenna you can make an electric car have infinite milage! i remade nikola teslas wireless energy system, you take energy and make it wireless which can be used for electric motors and run them forever as long as their is a wireless power transmitter! its really important technology and 100 yrs old now!
Horrible music. I hear the tesla is 100% torque 100% all the time, it doesn't have to build it up. I'll still take my vette, but this is nice, but god that crap music? Blah I'd rather be fisted by a person with a puss filled tumor on their hand.
actually, the ORIGINAL cars were electric. they stopped being made in the States around 1900, when the oil companies learned how to turn 'waste' into gasoline/fuel.
Great car! Only glitch, there isn't nearly enough electricity around to fill up 50% of cars on the road. So, they may be 90% efficient, however I doubt that, but a coal based power plant is max 45% efficient and then you charge your batteries + you loose charge 1-3%, you do the math.
Nuclear power, yeaaah! Where do you dig the hole for the millions of tonnes of waste? The day we have geothermal power plants only would solve the problem.
losses from plant to the battery, say 15% -> 34% efficiency.
85% motor efficiency -> ~29% efficiency
a toyota prius is at what, 25% efficiency? a modern diesel car at about 18% and a gasoline one at 15%?
yup, the maths are still in favour of the electric car.
i dont know where you live, but in sweden, the problem with loads of electric cars would be on the fluctuations on the powergrid rather than the "availability"
The idea is that you charge up at night when power use is at its lowest. A much lower rate applies at night here. In NZ we spill water over the hydrodams that provide 2/3s of our electricity at night as there is no use for the electricity at this time. Our windfarms are also producing so the power is there waiting to be used or wasted. Countries like Norway would be in a similar situation.
I am pro-electric, hybrid and alternative, but you are missing some important facts.
The batteries in this car or any hybrid are not environmentally friendly even if the energy source is. What is the environmental impact of their production and disposal? How renewable are the resources that make up the battery? How dependent is the US on foreign sources for the materials needed to make the batteries? Li-ion batteries are among the fastest to degrade so the advantage over oil???
you do know that for non-americans, the US is mostly "just another country"? - Every country needs other countries for imports/exports... As for the environmental impact of batteries - lithium is a metal, you can recycle and reuse it. Yes, you do have to extract them from the sands or whereever you find the rawmaterials, but theoretically you can reuse it indefinitly. We have the knowledge to make batteries that outlives the average lifetime of a car. We "just" need to put it into practise.
Hi there - The Batteries can be charged by wind energy , solar , bio diesel , electricity generated by dams etc .. these are all renewable . You can also have clean coal and nuclear which are not the best but much better than pertrol or gas .. a combination of all these to charge the the batteries is a much better option than using Oil and funding those militants .
It will drive down the price of energy quite a bit as well as money spend in defense forces ,
"Where do you dig the hole for the millions of tonnes of waste?"
Why not save it up, and blast it into space, and point it right at the sun. Oh, that's right, if it explodes then we have a million tonnes of nuclear fallout... ah well, it was a thought. =P
Yes you're right but there's a BIG difference in cashing in on energy that was converted into chemical energy 1000's or millions of years ago and an earth based nuclear power plant.
The sun is 93,000,000 miles away which is a nice distance for a nuclear fireball.
An earth based reactor is much more dangerous. And getting rid of the waste byproduct is difficult and dangerous too. Cold fusion would be nice if they work out how to do it.
"i can't wait till they brig out the 5 passenger cars!"
Look at the Lexus GS450. A friend of mine had one and I went for a ride. 5 seater, top luxury, hybrid (V6 I think). Very impressive performance and I have an RX7 "Batmobile" so I know what high performance feels like. These hybrids are great. Expensive though.

nice car, but where does he electricity come from? nuclear power plants, coal fired power plants and so on..... but fortunately there are some water powerplant's. if there would be more regenerative powerplants it would be worth it to build more of those great cars.
Its a huge leap forward but its not as good as petrol. I think its based on the lotus elise so it should be a good car the lotus elise has an aluminium chassis and it does'nt have a single weld its all bonded. Thats if you didnt all redy know.
what is the point in this car????? it isent as good for the enviroment because where does the electrisity come from a power station.less miles and to expensive ???????
I think the point of the car was just to cut down on our dependency on gas. It gets 250 miles per charge from its lithium batteries that take a total of 4 hours to charge, from your home.
4hrs to fill up vs 4mins at the gas pump..and then the electricity is more expensive then the gas and its produced by a coal fired plant most likely...and its base price is 109,000...it sounds like a gimick for the rich. not a solution for the masses.
Hear a simple physics fact...all energy is nuclear..the sun is the biggest nuclear furnace we have and it has been prepackaging and concentrating energy for us in the form of all cabon based fuels that were once alive as in cabon based life forms. so unless you are running nuclear on the whole grid you are going to be getting less energy in the form of heat loss. petro is simply prepackaged solar as is Nat Gas. Wind and hydro are thermal convection from the sun. Most electricity is from coal.
So your saying you drive your gas car 24 hours a day and never let it sit for more than 4 hours? This car has a range of 244 miles. Most people don't drive more than 100 miles a day. How many times a year do people take a road trip more than 200 hundred miles? Take a gas car on those trips and an EV to work or the store. It's as simple as that.
The point? Well drastic reduction in carbon emissions, nitrous oxides emission, and particle/pollutants emissions to start with. Very high energy efficiency.
All of this assuming you don't use coal powered electricity to charge it with though. Going for hydro, nuclear wind or maybe even solar (if you have a big house with plenty of solar panels and don't drive too much).
solar and wind would take a pretty big farm or a very long time to recharge...not very practical unless we had many more nuke plants to bring down energy costs and thus make this car more practical.
Electrical engines have the very sweet advantage that efficiency does not depend much on the RPM. Unlike combustion engines which have a pretty narrow interval where they give top performance, electrical engines deliver same amount of torque for all RPM's for the (almost) same effecicency.
The Tesla Roadster has a fixed gearbox. It doesn't need a clutch. Electrical engines do not need to idle when not being used.
I would do terrible disgusting things for one of these cars. To bad to the retail on one of these is about 120,000. Not to mention a long waiting list.
an Israeli man invented a panel that can get more than that,.. its really small, you need big ass mirrors.. I say, if someone wants to make a buck with coal, do that to. if someone wants to make a buck with anything.. I'm looking for bucks everywhere, I might start an algae farm,.. make fuel for my neighbors and I.. so we dont have to buy these electric cars (which do make for a quiet get away) haha the cops say "where'd he go? I dont hear anything??"
every tesla rep keeps advertising the car is around 100k and when i read up on it its 120k?! wth i mean i'm not a baller like that but i'm looking into them and 100k "might" be do-able but 120k+options+tax. ur talking 150k maybe ::deal breaker:: i'm all for this car but they started at under 100k and claimed prices were gonna go down eventually but they just keep going up! and yes i know about the gearbox. they gotta start eating costs man. google saturn sky amp for a cheaper alternative
the problem with the car is the price, it's about 90,000$. the Gov is too dumb enough to see this is the future and is making us pay for the mistakes they made. for some reason what ever hill and obama say about the future for America is a total lie this is just my opinion.
People must know about electric and the government must see it through. Does America need oil tax that bad? I dunno. I hope we/congress/America are/is thinking for the earth.
Enough about the goddamn song! You wanna know what's REALLY Gay? Bending your ASS over for $4.00 a gal. gas and not holding your elected officials responsible for the role they play in not getting these vehicles to the public at an affordable price! Oh....and the fact your low earning, INADEQUATE ass can't even afford to take a test drive in one of these. You know, REAL men(gay or straight) making REAL money can easily buy a Tesla. Who's the FAGGOT now......faggot!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You bend your ass over for gas? Not only are you a fag, you're a whore fag. I just hope you charge at least $4 to compensate for the poop-chute pounding you enjoy so much. And why do you try to hold elected officials responsible for affordable prices? Political Science 101: they are elected to government positions, not corporate positions at car companies. LoL you'd try to breastfeed off Uncle Sam's titty if you could.
I want an electric car too, but please try to educate yourself first.
This technology doesn't work! In fact, a recent study has found a nearly unlimited supply of rich engine fueling OIL within the vital organs of our very own children! If only the government would lift the sanctions that are strangling this economy and allow for the cultivation of this vital resource form the unspoiled innards of our offspring! Don't buy all this clean-burning environment friendly mumbo jumbo! We're going to trash the throaty rumble of a fuel chugging V8 for some...planet?!? Man!
I LOVE IT! It's fast, quiet and doesn't require daily consumption of gasoline. My only gripes are the $100k price tag and the re-branded Lotus Exige body.
I would get one if I could! I'm sick of the control issues with this oil. Plus, it looks great! No noise, and the features are sweet. Even the security system is nice! I would get it and watch the world fight over oil. lol
"It won't free us from oil. You're forgetting that electricity comes from power plants that burn oil." Much of our electricity is produced from polluting sources indeed. However, this doesn't eliminate the need for non-polluting vehicles. Products like this are just one piece of the puzzle.
Yes, we may have a rather limited supply of oil, but something like 800 years of coal (at current rates) in the USA alone? Then add nuclear to the mix if need be. Producing electricity should not be a major problem. It's got to be better than $140 oil, which is pretty much going to slaughter the economy and our standard of living in the long term.
Some of you guys don't get it.. Pump oil from Alaska? How about you leave the oil alone and hop on a bike. There is enough technology emerging in the next few years that hopefully we can seriously reduce our dependency on oil. The energy crisis right now is ridiculous and for no reason.
Thats a sexy car, and fast. If everyone drove these or something similar probably at least 40% of asthma cases would be gone. No more paying 80$ each week for gas that goes to saudi arabia or some other foreign country..
look up nikola teslas wardenclyffe tower or magnifying transmitter. it sent energy and information faster than light through the earth allowing energy to be obtained at any point on the planet. if this tower is built, then you wont need batteries, just a resonant antenna inductively grounded ran to an ac motor in the car!. just look at video 4 on my youtube account, it could change this world, it almost did 100 yrs ago.
You are one hundred percent right, but that would eliminate trillions in profit from every company in the world, including bush. Why do you think tesla never got the funds to complete this project, because they want to keep the people dependant on oil, at a price they can control, which gives them huge profits, and control over us. Nikola tesla sure is one of the greatest mind that ever existed.
And what do you suppose that people will do with all the money they save using elec. instead of gas? They will spend it, spend it on something ells that they need. And that something ells will pay those taxes. The money will still be put back into the economy. It just will not go through EXXON or OPEC.
As demand increases and mass production ramps up to full gear, prices will drop dramatically. Then research and development will surely increase the batteries efficiency. By the time the ones that came with the car need to be replaced they could be much cheaper.
When the ICE (internal combustion engine) first came out they were very expensive and ran poorly also, but now look at them.
battery tech will get to the equivalent level of a typical engine as volume of battery usage goes up. its pure economics. and batteries are known to last about as long also. I heard of a prius with an original battery having about 200k miles on it.
They are warrentied for 8 years also, which helps ensure reliability and ROI
That would have happend if the electric GM car introduced in the early nineties, has some sales. According to GM there was no interest. People are assholes. If we would have started then we would not be where we are now. The Tesla is a great car, but even if you got the money you have to put down $60,000 deposit and the waiting list is more then a year. People are very shortsighted.
There was plenty of demand for the EV1 and for electric cars. Like I said there was even a protest to all the cars GM was destroying and the group even managed to raise 1.9 million just to buy out the cars on the spot but GM denied it. The reason there was no "interest" is because no one even knew that electric cars were as capable as they were. Also the tesla is an example of a sports car. There were electric cars that were cheaper.
Your right, the blame for the EV1 needs to be shared by energy companies, short sighted goverment, Disinterested public who chose monstrous trucks and GM too. Lastly the media who at the time could have promoted the EV1 but failed there. Very much like the Iraq War IMHO. Blame needs to be shared my many,
I understand why the public didnt buy electric cars though. Considering the government was offering a 100,000 maximum return for vehicles over 6000 pounds and a mere 4000 for electric cars. The government made it economical to buy bigger cars. Those that even knew about the EC didnt see the point as theyd spend way more compared to a nearly free hummer.
You are absolutly right, as far as DMV vehicle taxes are concerned it is only based on car value, there was 0 Incentive by the Goverment to get people to buy electric or hybrid. Media needs big time blame for not promoting it and people who they claim didn't like short driving range before recharge and electric cords. Also being a former cyclist, ie bicycles, roads are not built for vehicles like bikes and scooters. They did everything they could to discourage alternative transport.
My dad works at a nuclear plant and the water they use is pumped through a 17-mile long canal. Before it's released back into the river, it returns to the same temperature as the rest of the water and is actually cleaner than it was before. Win-win situation.
Our country has had a proud reputation of having innovative ideas and of leading in technology. Mass production of electric vehicles would free up oil for transportation of commodities, aviation fuel for the airline industry, and free up oil supplies for a strong national defense.
Mass production of electric Vehicles could make us a world leader in Electric Vehilce production and create more jobs for our economy and improve the quality of life in America and decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
I agree, lets get on it! If we develop a sucessful electric car industry, that would drastically reduce our need for oil. Better still, at the same time we could develop our oil shale insdustry (currently under development) to offset our petrolium imports. We can tell OPEC to go pound sand at that point.
We have the means, we have the technoligy, it's time to just get it done!
Having personally driven more that 5 different teslas I can say they are awesome! Suspension is mad stiff and the steering is rough!

4hrs to fill up vs 4mins at the gas pump..and then the electricity is more expensive then the gas and its produced by a coal fired plant most likely...and its base price is 109,000...it sounds like a gimick for the rich. not a solution for the masses.
DK0526 3 years ago
no, electricity is cheaper than gas.
otherwise you're right on filling up time: 4hours is a joke

Hear a simple physics fact...all energy is nuclear..the sun is the biggest nuclear furnace we have and it has been prepackaging and concentrating energy for us in the form of all cabon based fuels that were once alive as in cabon based life forms. so unless you are running nuclear on the whole grid you are going to be getting less energy in the form of heat loss. petro is simply prepackaged solar as is Nat Gas. Wind and hydro are thermal convection from the sun. Most electricity is from coal.
DK0526 3 years ago
So your saying you drive your gas car 24 hours a day and never let it sit for more than 4 hours? This car has a range of 244 miles. Most people don't drive more than 100 miles a day. How many times a year do people take a road trip more than 200 hundred miles? Take a gas car on those trips and an EV to work or the store. It's as simple as that.
FreeMTrider 3 years ago
The point? Well drastic reduction in carbon emissions, nitrous oxides emission, and particle/pollutants emissions to start with. Very high energy efficiency.
All of this assuming you don't use coal powered electricity to charge it with though. Going for hydro, nuclear wind or maybe even solar (if you have a big house with plenty of solar panels and don't drive too much).
mkarnerfors 3 years ago 3
solar and wind would take a pretty big farm or a very long time to recharge...not very practical unless we had many more nuke plants to bring down energy costs and thus make this car more practical.
DK0526 3 years ago
how does the gear box works? Is there a clutch like in gasoline cars?
a23444 3 years ago
Electrical engines have the very sweet advantage that efficiency does not depend much on the RPM. Unlike combustion engines which have a pretty narrow interval where they give top performance, electrical engines deliver same amount of torque for all RPM's for the (almost) same effecicency.
The Tesla Roadster has a fixed gearbox. It doesn't need a clutch. Electrical engines do not need to idle when not being used.
More information on Wikipedia.

an Israeli man invented a panel that can get more than that,.. its really small, you need big ass mirrors..

True you can buy your own panels and then never pay again.

vindigga6 3 years ago
the problem with the car is the price, it's about 90,000$. the Gov is too dumb enough to see this is the future and is making us pay for the mistakes they made. for some reason what ever hill and obama say about the future for America is a total lie this is just my opinion.

Who's the FAGGOT now......faggot!
gandy74 3 years ago 2
This comment has received too many negative votes show
You bend your ass over for gas? Not only are you a fag, you're a whore fag. I just hope you charge at least $4 to compensate for the poop-chute pounding you enjoy so much. And why do you try to hold elected officials responsible for affordable prices? Political Science 101: they are elected to government positions, not corporate positions at car companies. LoL you'd try to breastfeed off Uncle Sam's titty if you could.
I want an electric car too, but please try to educate yourself first.

wrxbungle 3 years ago 3
"It won't free us from oil. You're forgetting that electricity comes from power plants that burn oil." Much of our electricity is produced from polluting sources indeed. However, this doesn't eliminate the need for non-polluting vehicles. Products like this are just one piece of the puzzle.
sumadartsan 3 years ago
Yes, we may have a rather limited supply of oil, but something like 800 years of coal (at current rates) in the USA alone? Then add nuclear to the mix if need be. Producing electricity should not be a major problem. It's got to be better than $140 oil, which is pretty much going to slaughter the economy and our standard of living in the long term.

Some of you guys don't get it.. Pump oil from Alaska? How about you leave the oil alone and hop on a bike. There is enough technology emerging in the next few years that hopefully we can seriously reduce our dependency on oil. The energy crisis right now is ridiculous and for no reason.

look up nikola teslas wardenclyffe tower or magnifying transmitter. it sent energy and information faster than light through the earth allowing energy to be obtained at any point on the planet. if this tower is built, then you wont need batteries, just a resonant antenna inductively grounded ran to an ac motor in the car!. just look at video 4 on my youtube account, it could change this world, it almost did 100 yrs ago.
boxa888 3 years ago 3
You are one hundred percent right, but that would eliminate trillions in profit from every company in the world, including bush. Why do you think tesla never got the funds to complete this project, because they want to keep the people dependant on oil, at a price they can control, which gives them huge profits, and control over us. Nikola tesla sure is one of the greatest mind that ever existed.
ghostx03 3 years ago 3
And what do you suppose that people will do with all the money they save using elec. instead of gas? They will spend it, spend it on something ells that they need. And that something ells will pay those taxes. The money will still be put back into the economy. It just will not go through EXXON or OPEC.
GSpotter63 3 years ago
They will need to save it all up because when new batteries are needed,EXPENSIVE.
sannsere1976 3 years ago
As demand increases and mass production ramps up to full gear, prices will drop dramatically. Then research and development will surely increase the batteries efficiency. By the time the ones that came with the car need to be replaced they could be much cheaper.
When the ICE (internal combustion engine) first came out they were very expensive and ran poorly also, but now look at them.
GSpotter63 3 years ago 5
battery tech will get to the equivalent level of a typical engine as volume of battery usage goes up. its pure economics. and batteries are known to last about as long also.

People are very shortsighted.
valhala56 3 years ago
There was plenty of demand for the EV1 and for electric cars. Like I said there was even a protest to all the cars GM was destroying and the group even managed to raise 1.9 million just to buy out the cars on the spot but GM denied it. The reason there was no "interest" is because no one even knew that electric cars were as capable as they were. Also the tesla is an example of a sports car. There were electric cars that were cheaper.
boorens18 3 years ago
Your right, the blame for the EV1 needs to be shared by energy companies, short sighted goverment, Disinterested public who chose monstrous trucks and GM too. Lastly the media who at the time could have promoted the EV1 but failed there. Very much like the Iraq War IMHO. Blame needs to be shared my many,
valhala56 3 years ago
I understand why the public didnt buy electric cars though. Considering the government was offering a 100,000 maximum return for vehicles over 6000 pounds and a mere 4000 for electric cars. The government made it economical to buy bigger cars. Those that even knew about the EC didnt see the point as theyd spend way more compared to a nearly free hummer.
boorens18 3 years ago
You are absolutly right, as far as DMV vehicle taxes are concerned it is only based on car value, there was 0 Incentive by the Goverment to get people to buy electric or hybrid. Media needs big time blame for not promoting it and people who they claim didn't like short driving range before recharge and electric cords. Also being a former cyclist, ie bicycles, roads are not built for vehicles like bikes and scooters. They did everything they could to discourage alternative transport.

Our country has had a proud reputation of having innovative ideas and of leading in technology. Mass production of electric vehicles would free up oil for transportation of commodities, aviation fuel for the airline industry, and free up oil supplies for a strong national defense.
ZeroFuel31 3 years ago
Mass production of electric Vehicles could make us a world leader in Electric Vehilce production and create more jobs for our economy and improve the quality of life in America and decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
ZeroFuel31 3 years ago 5
I agree, lets get on it! If we develop a sucessful electric car industry, that would drastically reduce our need for oil. Better still, at the same time we could develop our oil shale insdustry (currently under development) to offset our petrolium imports. We can tell OPEC to go pound sand at that point.
We have the means, we have the technoligy, it's time to just get it done!
