They pay a tax on employment and they pay a tax on earnings/net income. These taxes are levied by the United States Government on the federal level. Additionaly some corporations pay taxes on the state level.
Of course, you might be one of those people who believe you dont' have to pay income tax, which might explain how wrong you are.
Sailcats, once you understand the basic concept of Corporations paying tax on payroll, I will educate you on the second form of tax a corporation pays. Those are called Corporate Taxes and they are based on INCOME. You need to look up the word CHARLATAN and see if that applies to you.

I think you're referring to the John Warner Defense Auth Act of 2007 which gave the president authority to take control of the state national guards without consent of the governors. All 50 governors opposed it, and that part of the act was rescinded in 2008. Now she IS the CIC of the National Guard.
Yes she has issued commands even deploying the NG to other states for assistance.

rico, I've gone through this pretty thoroughly before so won't repeat it all. Again, what you're quoting there is misleading in the extreme. This fact hinges on the idea that what Obama will inflict on rich ppl and companies will have serious consequences on the tax burdens of us all.
There was absolutely no UN support for the war in Iraq. There was no international consensus during the invasion. Other countries criticized teh US. Do you have amnesia or are you just delusional?
jipoku my friend read up on the UN support. The UN consensus came in the form of the 2002 UN security council resolution 1441, which gave authority for military action if Saddam didn't cooperate in very specific requirements, which he didn't.
1441 was passed unanimously. It also followed 16 previous resolutions. Now yes, many of the countries then backpeddled in their resolve to carry out 1441, but we did not, and we have succeeded now in freeing a country. Again, the RIGHT thing is hard.

1441 was about weapons of mass destruction, and the resolution said nothing about allowing the US to invade Iraq. And of course ther were no weapons of mass destruction. So what was the resolution that allowed the invasion of Iraq? Bush moved unilaterally to invade the country and 1441 did not authorze war. Actually jipoku, the resolution had specific deliverables that Iraq had to comply and cooperate with. The purpose was to ensure no WMD's. We now know although there were no stockpiles of WMD's that Saddam DID have mature WMD programs capable of manufacture whenever he gave the word.

McCain is running for president and not Palin. The truth is that we do not know who will actually be a better president. But from what I have read and seen, it seems that Obama has a plan for healthcare, the housing crisis, energy independence, and foreign policy while McCain's policies are not comprehensive. A large reason why companies move to other countries is because healtcare is so high in America.

If you remove the free market aspect of anything, that reduces the competition, reduces the compensation and attractiveness for the best people to go to become doctors for instance, adds expense b/c govt is now more involved, and adds schedule overhead b/c the govt is so slow about things.

To play with your mechanic anology, the current healthcare system is like a mechanic not telling you that you have bad oil. Instead of changing the oil, he waits until teh engine goes out to give you a new engine. He makes a lot of money, but your car would have been better off if he had just fixed the oil problem.

For me a candidate who sees a problem and approaches it with a plan is inherently better than someone who thinks its fine to do nothing about a problem.
Also, if you apply some common sense to a for profit system, you will see the inherent problems with American healthcare. Most of the money spent in a person's life come in the last several months before death. That means that there is an incentive for the health industry to discourage preventive healthcare and to encourage expensive measures near the end of life. Blaming the healthcare system for early mortality is like blaming your mechanic for charging too much to keep your car running, when you buy a jeep instead of a honda.
My argument was that there was an incentive not to encourage preventive healthcare. Exercise and a good diet are preventive healthcare advice that a physician could give to patients. But millions of people don't have regular healthcare and end up going to the emergency room when they get sick. Thus there is no preventive healthcare. The disease gets worse. They die earlier than they should, doctors and hospitals make profit.
Well I agree preventive healthcare is needed to a higher degree. I just say flat out that socializing healthcare is the worst way to accomplish that.
Like right now in the co I work for, preventive health care is being pushed more and more each year. Screenings, workouts, etc.
And it's happening b/c free market controls are working to push costs down that have risen too high. Govt isn't needed in this, it would only add to the already too-high costs.
But what about the millions of people without healthcare? Those emergency room visits for people without healthcare make the cost for all people higher. This election is a referendum on 8 years of GOP leadership, the current state of the country, and what's going to be done, specifically to address the economic and foreign threats to the American people. I am not at all charmed by her hockey mom persona and her unwillingness to speak without a teleprompter and dodge press conferences. It's obvious she is not prepared and they are trying to control her image.

We differ. Everyone cares about her family, and her small town. Biography at this point is everything. This election is a referendum on the future, nothing to do with the past. Economic and foreign threats to this country are a fact of life and will be dealt with satisfactorily, as always, but not by the President or the Vice President of the United States.
I find her charming and have no evidence to suggest she is unwilling to speak without a teleprompter, or dodges press conferences.

If you look closely at what I said, using your critical analysis method, you will discover that I said "at this stage of the game" biography is everything. There is plenty of time for press conferences and appearances on the pundits shows.
I may have a different perspective than you. Buying something is always an emotional decision. You can evaluate all the features and benefits and relationships of an offering until you are blue in the face, but the final decision is emotional.

Mr. Sailcats, all do respect, but you're way off base on the corporate tax issue. I'm an accounting major and a finance major. Corporations pay taxes. They pay a tax on employment and they pay a tax on earnings/net income. These taxes are levied by the United States Government on the federal level. Additionaly some corporations pay taxes on the state level.
Of course, you might be one of those people who believe you dont' have to pay income tax, which might explain how wrong you are.

Sailcats, once you understand the basic concept of Corporations paying tax on payroll, I will educate you on the second form of tax a corporation pays. Those are called Corporate Taxes and they are based on INCOME. You need to look up the word CHARLATAN and see if that applies to you.

Businesses and corporations don't pay taxes. They collect them from people.
As a business owner you should check out Fairtax. If passed, it would alleviate you of all your payroll/SS tax match responsibilities.

Rico the fact that corp's don't pay taxes is SO important. Without this knowledge in your back pocket, you will be forever lulled into favoring your own taxation, and not even realize it.
Think about it. If your wages are cut, or you're laid off, b/c the govt levied more corp taxes on your company, you will have paid those corp taxes. Losing wages, jobs or earnings on retirement are just as effective tax pmt methods as having them withheld from your check. We just don't get the itemized stub.

I own a corporation. You are 100% wrong. It makes me not even want to try to educate you on this point because you are so completely wrong.
1) In America, each employee pays Federal Tax(FICA) Social Security Tax, and Medicare tax. The company takes that tax out of your paycheck, and then MATCHES IT. The match comes from the Corporation. We do not collect it, we do not take it out of your check twice. It comes out of our REVENUE.
The only tax I collect as a corporation is SALES TAX.

You can't be this obtuse. You're attempting to redefine general accounting practices to make your point. You collect SALES TAX! You don't collect CORPORATE TAX or PAYROLL MATCHING TAXES.
Payroll Taxes are categorized as current liabilities.
Corporate Taxes are paid AFTER the end of your fiscal year based on your net income.
You don't collect a tax on net income. The simple fact that a company doesn't know it's net income or net loss until the end of the fiscal year prevents that.

rico another way to look at this. Say all of sudden tomorrow you have to pay more corp taxes on the profits you make. OR you have to more than match the SS tax... or whatever. Your corp taxes go up.
Now again, you can ONLY do 3 things, in whatever combination you want, but you MUST do at least 1 of the 3:
1) raise the price of your products.
2) cut wages or lay ppl off.
3) reduce earnings to shareholders.
In ALL 3 cases, no matter which you decide to do, the people will pay the tax hike.

...rico let's say you're a corp. Your cost+margin=revenue. Taxes are levied on you as part of your cost. What are the ONLY 3 things you can do to "pay" them? You only have the above equation to play with. You either raise revenue, cut cost, or cut margin.
1) you pass the cost to consumers in the price of product.
2) you cut wages or lay off.
3) you let the shareholder pay for it by reducing their earnings (all us retirement investors out here with 401k, etc)
These are your ONLY 3 options.

damosh the governor of each state is the commander in chief except when deployed out of the country. I think you're referring to the John Warner Defense Auth Act of 2007 which gave the president authority to take control of the state national guards without consent of the governors. All 50 governors opposed it, and that part of the act was rescinded in 2008. Now she IS the CIC of the National Guard.
Yes she has issued commands even deploying the NG to other states for assistance.

Being in charge of the Alaska NG isn't the only thing backing her experience claim. Exec experience is what she's been getting for the last 12 years... first as mayor of a town, then as governor of a state. Belittle it all you want, but these life experiences ARE exec experience.
Neither Biden, nor Obama have had ANY exec experience whatsoever. None. Zero. So despite the attempted belittlement, it's still 12 yrs vs zero.

Part of that is having the respect of other countries. jipoku my friend read up on the UN support. The UN consensus came in the form of the 2002 UN security council resolution 1441, which gave authority for military action if Saddam didn't cooperate in very specific requirements, which he didn't.
1441 was passed unanimously. It also followed 16 previous resolutions. Now yes, many of the countries then backpeddled in their resolve to carry out 1441, but we did not, and we have succeeded now in freeing a country. Again, the RIGHT thing is hard.

right, in 2004 Kofi Annan tried to back peddle. That was 2 years after the 1441 resolution was passed *unanimously*. Like I said some tried to backpeddle in attempt to appease... appeasement is the enemy of justice and what is right. Like I said, what is right is never easy and rarely popular.

1441 was about weapons of mass destruction, and the resolution said nothing about allowing the US to invade Iraq. And of course ther were no weapons of mass destruction. So what was the resolution that allowed the invasion of Iraq? Bush moved unilaterally to invade the country and 1441 did not authorze war. Wikipedia: "While some politicians have argued that the resolution could authorize war under certain circumstances, the representatives in the meeting were clear that this was not the case."

Actually jipoku, the resolution had specific deliverables that Iraq had to comply and cooperate with. The purpose was to ensure no WMD's. We now know although there were no stockpiles of WMD's that Saddam DID have mature WMD programs capable of manufacture whenever he gave the word.
the resolution requirements were to ensure compliance by Iraq, which they didn't cooperate with. Therefore the stipulated measures were fully justified.

The "stipulated measures were fully justified"? What does that mean? There was no explicit provision that allowed for invasion. Saying that there would be "serious consequences" does not mean that there would be an invasion, especially given that at the meeting about the resolution the participants specifically said there was no carte blanche for the US to invade. The UN authorized inspections and not an invasion.

McCain is running for president and not Palin. The truth is that we do not know who will actually be a better president. But from what I have read and seen, it seems that Obama has a plan for healthcare, the housing crisis, energy independence, and foreign policy while McCain's policies are not comprehensive. What is his plan for healthcare? He wants to do nothing. Drilling and a gas tax holiday are not policies but gimmicks to gain votes. The housing crisis? No plan.

Yes McCain's the one running for pres. The things you're listing as pro's for Obama actually speak to the fundamental difference between Obama and McCain.
Obama's big plans you talk about are all expensive and require bigger govt. You want to see the Peoples' power taken by govt & taxes go up? Just let them take over healthcare. Man that's SOOO dangerous we can't even comprehend what it would mean.
McCain on the other hand wants to cut govt spending & let you have more $ and freedom.

America is the only industrialized nation without comprehensive healthcare. It also has some of the earliest death rates and highest infant mortality rates of other industrialized countries. But America pays more of its GDP for healthcare than all those countries. GB's, France's, and Japan's economies have not collapsed because they have universal healthcare. A large reason why companies move to other countries is because healtcare is so high in America.

man, you should read up on the horror stories of people in canada for instance having to wait so long for surgeries that they die.
Honestly just apply some common sense to this. If you remove the free market aspect of anything, that reduces the competition, reduces the compensation and attractiveness for the best people to go to become doctors for instance, adds expense b/c govt is now more involved, and adds schedule overhead b/c the govt is so slow about things.

Yeah, over 900 trillion dollars in debt, which has driven the dollar down by over 50% in the last 18 months. (I don't have the space to explain the economic significance of that), but luckily all my stocks are oil and defense stocks, so for me, Palin and McCain is a no brainer. Also, the majority of the things you are stating as fact are wrong, at least in your last 10 posts. Vote Palin.

To play with your mechanic anology, the current healthcare system is like a mechanic not telling you that you have bad oil. Instead of changing the oil, he waits until teh engine goes out to give you a new engine. He makes a lot of money, but your car would have been better off if he had just fixed the oil problem.

ok I love your analogy about the mechanic now... and let's carry it out then. What's needed when you mechanic tries to cheat you... you become an educated consumer, and you use your own self interest to either double check the mechanic is trustworthy, reputable, etc.
Again govt isn't needed, and in fact wouldn't be able to prevent what you're talking about, and if they did, it would be super expensive.
bringing govt into it only outsources more responsibility that individuals should be taking.

But our bodies are not like cars. We only have one life. We can get a new engine and learn from our mistakes. But if we spend decades of our life not taking advantage of preventive healthcare, there is no way to learn from our mistake. We just die. I'm not a socialist. I belive in the free market and competition but it has its limits. For me a candidate who sees a problem and approaches it with a plan is inherently better than someone who thinks its fine to do nothing about a problem.

Also, if you apply some common sense to a for profit system, you will see the inherent problems with American healthcare. Most of the money spent in a person's life come in the last several months before death. That means that there is an incentive for the health industry to discourage preventive healthcare and to encourage expensive measures near the end of life. If the American system is so good, why is life expectancy lower and infant mortality higher in the US than other G8 countries?

My argument was that there was an incentive not to encourage preventive healthcare. Exercise and a good diet are preventive healthcare advice that a physician could give to patients. But millions of people don't have regular healthcare and end up going to the emergency room when they get sick. Thus there is no preventive healthcare. The disease gets worse. They die earlier than they should, doctors and hospitals make profit.

Well I agree preventive healthcare is needed to a higher degree. I just say flat out that socializing healthcare is the worst way to accomplish that.
Like right now in the co I work for, preventive health care is being pushed more and more each year. Screenings, workouts, etc.
And it's happening b/c free market controls are working to push costs down that have risen too high. Govt isn't needed in this, it would only add to the already too-high costs.

But what about the millions of people without healthcare? Those emergency room visits for people without healthcare make the cost for all people higher. I agree that there is probably no perfect system. But having millions of people who work everyday not able to get healthcare for themselves and their children in the richest country on earth is a moral outrage.

Consider, healthcare is NOT a right. It's a need. govt's job is to protect our rights, not provide our needs. Adults are supposed to provide their own needs and their families'.
When govt tries to provide NEEDS, they have to force others to pay for those needs. health care should be a priority in every family's budget.

I know that every person who has the physical & mental ability, if that person works hard, they DO have access to healthcare. There are exceptions, like elderly, children, handicapped... yes & there are already hugely expensive programs to cover them.

It's such a rarely-known, but obvious fact once you realize it... every single dime of corp taxes are paid by ONE entity... people. You and me.
Corporations simply do not pay taxes. So when Obama says he'll lower YOUR taxes but raise their's, it's literally a lie, either by ignorance or deceit. Either way it's a lie.
Like taking water out of THEIR side of the bucket but not touching YOUR side lol

Oh I'm definitely voting for McCain/Palin. Main reason is they're for less govt than Obama is for & I believe what they say. To me govt is the enemy of freedom due to its consistent corrupt and power hungry nature.
You're right about not being attacked since Palin was governor, due I believe to strong offense against terror. Our enemy has said time and again they want to destroy us. If we give them a chance they will.

I'm voting for Obama/Biden for MANY reasons: 1. Stronger plan to revive our economy; 2. Higher priorities on health care and education; and, 3. They will restore our standing and respect in the world. We have been abandoned by almost all of our allies in the so-called fight against terror. And, right now, we need all the help we can get, given how Bush and the GOP have destroyed us and our image. And, although Republicans claim to want less government, they just want a government run by them!

damosh, you have every right to choose of course, but I'd like to just point out:
1. Obama MUST raise all our taxes. He's just hiding most of the tax increases, instead touting INCOME tax reductions. Only part of the picture. You'll still pay more.
2.socialization, less freedom.
3.Our allies are strongly for us. France even elected a proAmerican, free mkt pres. Germany, Australia, GB, Canada, etc... all staunchly with us. Media just wants you to think they hate us.

The reality is that Obama plans to cut taxes on middles class and working class people by as much as $1,000. McCain will lower the taxes for the same group by $300. Obama will raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans who can afford it. We have an expensive war that we are paying for by selling our debt to China and other countries, which makes us economically vulnerable. Raising taxes on the wealthy will help to solve the problem.
