There are tears in my eyes, right now! Get this poor creature out of its prison! Tigers are great predators, and we owe it to them to leave them be! So, come on! Give a great predator his due! END THIS ABUSE TO ANIMALS, IN ZOOS!
This tiger had to have it's paw amputed in 2006. Although at first sight this is a very distressing sight, I can assure you that in 2010 it is still in excellent health and is very well cared for. It appreciates sympathy from it's visitors and knows how to get it. Sad as this seems were the tiger to meet you outside of its cage it could still outrun you and eat you for breakfast without pausing for breath. The keepers love their animals and have nursed many an injured animal back to health.
I visited this zoo in 2008 and wrote to the Mayor of Varna, offering advice on development funds available for restructuring the zoo. I contacted the UK's foremost ZOO advisory consultancy, who offered their advice to obtain EU funding for zoos to substantially transform the animals experience. I received no response from either the mayor or Zoo director. This is an ongoing campaign. Varna zoo has improved some of the camel and alpaca areas, but despite massive growth in tourism, the mayor and
contact as many institutions as possible. PETA, CHester Zoo, San Diego Zoo, WWF, Greenpeace, big cat rescue, anybody who have the power. i have read that it is not the zoo's fault and a lioness did it to him whilst he was a cub, my question is why was the lion cub allowed this close.
i dont think that is enough, my dads friends went and he said whilst there he saw children crying because of the state of the animals, i dont think they should rebuild it, i think varna zoo should be shut down
I went to this zoo in 2007. I've seen this Tiger face to face.He had a few buddies around but this tiger in particular I felt deap sadness. The zoo also has a bear which also made me sad. The bear seemed so miserable and looked as though it had been driven crazy. It was swaying side to side,it looked me in the eyes and had such a sad look. I'm contacting the RSPCA headquarters to see what they can do. They will get in touch with someone from Varna to go check on these animals.I'll post back soon!
This is one of the sadest thing's i have ever seen in my life one of the most beautiful and majestic animal's in the world like this who could treat any animal like this let alone an endangered one just thinking about it make's me sick this animal should be in the wild.
It is good that you all are concerned about the tiger but I've been there in that zoo and I've seen the tiger and I've talked to people there. There is nothing that can be done. See next to its cage there is another one with big gaps between the bars. When the tiger was a small cub, a lioness from the other cage reached and ripped apart its paw and now if you see more carefully the tiger's paw is actually missing. nothing to be done now
Just to let you all know, I was there a couple of weeks ago and nothing has changed! This animal is dying a very slow and painful death. I can only hope that it passes away sooner rather than later because by the time "organizations" and Governments get their fingers out tigers will probably no longer be walking in the wild nevermind helping those in squalid conditions like these.
OMG!!! Is this still going on??? Shame on the zoo management! I was born and raised in that city. I remember spending hours in that zoo because I loved being surrounded by the animals. I have no words in my vocabulary to describe the feelings clouding my mind! What can I do? Please let me know...
I worked with tigers back in 1999 in Guam. I was a tiger trainer and a keeper. I am aware that this poor animal is in a lot of pain. It needs an emergency care...
There is no way to get anything done other than for everyone to join in and not go to that zoo and call them daily and inform them that we're not going because of the condition of the animals. Whenthe money starts to vanish, they will get somethig done.
I have just reported this awful neglect to PETA who, I am sure, will look into the zoo's treatment of the animals in their care. Thank you so much for posting the video, lirexbg, and for doing what you can for this magnificent creature. It is people like you who make an enormous difference to the lives of animals in distress. Bless you.
...as well as Dogs recently killing a British Woman in a Village there. My dog is from Sofia... At least there is outside help with the Bear Rescue Park. Dear Mayor of Varna PLEASE...No one wants to see suffering animals! HELP NOW!
I've been to Varna Zoo year 2001. The monkey looked very depressed in a very antique black round cage. This cat is obviously suffering and why is it taking people so long to help. Just today on CNN news I see where a Tiger in USA has a broken tooth & immediately something is done. Government - Mafia only care about Money. So,the Zoo is a liability to their pocketbook...so criminals don't care. This is really an outrage to see this as they are part of EU now...
The tiger is still there and still in the same condition. Walking round in circles all the time. The wolves are in a bad state too. Bear wasn't there to be seen though, only animal with anything approaching a "habitat" in the Zoo. Just posted my own video of the same thing.
Well.... I'm sure bad publicity won't help them.... Anyone from Varna, Bulgaria or nearby?
BTW, cats were never meant to walk on concrete. Hard on the paws and nails, also too cold. I wish you luck lirex. I'd suggest people start writing the Varna's Zoo.
i visited the zoo a couple of years ago and there was also a bear with a broken leg limping around.
a lonely ape was sitting in an empty cage.
the beavers didn't had nothing to gnaw on and their teeth were overgrown.
a bored fox was running in circles for the whole time i watched it.
very sad and stinky place. it's probably going to be closed because bulgaria joined EU and it brings tighter regulations, many zoos in romania have already been closed down because of the same reason.
We've contacted more than 50 animal rights organizations. Only 4 said they'll try to help. So far - nothing! The tiger is still there at the same poor conditions...
this is heartbreaking I hope animal rights activist have freed this tiger to good care givers who can give it medical attention, good food, and live on wonderful animal preserve with lots of acres to run and have other tiger friends. I hate this kind of abuse it literally makes me sick. I think the zoo authorities should be jailed for animal abuse.
I rmember seeing a chaind up dancin bear in sofia, not nice poor apex predetor havin too dance or get beaten... yeah these animals r dangerous and mayb should all b chaind up and beaten, therrs just no space for them in our modern world.
I don't think he needs a new space as long as that's HIS place and the tiger feels this way... he needs a veterinarian though, how bad is the injury in his feet?
GOOD GOD HOW BLOODY CRUEL. WHERES WSPA OR IFAW. SOME ONE DO SOMETHING FOR CHRISTS SAKE !! THE TIGER WILL GO CRAZY AS WELL AS CRIPPLED!

This habitat is a shameful disgrace. How can anyone enjoy looking at this suffering animal?
The zoo should be ashamed of themselves, and work immediately to either move the cat to a better place, or rebuild the habitat.
I will write to them myself asking why they don't do this.
Thanks for spreading the word on this terrible problem.

I agree. If they can't take proper care of the aniamls, they shouldn't be open in the first place.
((Actually I don't beiieve in zoos at all; I think they should ONLY be sactuaries. period.)
