he hides 1 corner of the cards, this is because in the 3 of clubs it has a ace of hearts in the corner and same goes for the ace of hearts. first he shows only the small number, after he places the cards and picks it up to show its different he hides the corner with the number and sign different to make it look like it was always that number. buit complicated to say but thats what it is
